It just ... really annoys me because the seemingly hardened Leliana from DA:I is the only romance option I found interesting. I would personally sack all the other romance options for all future walkthroughs for that.
On another note. Was Leliana "in character" for the entire dragon age origins seeing as she was a spy? Or did her personality just vastly change/improve?
The trailer Leliana seems like a completely different person. In DA:O she felt somewhat naive, innocent, kind, gentle and pious. It looks to me like she took a 180 degrees turn.

This game takes place 10 years after DAO. People can change alot in 10 years.

I don't think her personality shift, if you want to call it that, is that hard to believe. She was by no means innocent and naive in DAO. Then, she was still recovering from the trauma of Marjolaine's betrayal and having her whole world view turned upside down. I think the personality in DAO was mostly a front for her own benefit to help her cope. It was what was expected of a chantry sister.
Remember she said she was good at being who she needed to be. Now she's an agent for the Divine and the Inquisition. She has to present a cold front. Leliana can be really hard to fathom because of how much artifice her life has always involved. I think she's a good person, but she has worn so many masks throughout her life that it can be hard to determine just who she is really.

It seems very in-character for her to me, at least in terms of Leliana's complex psychology. As many people have noted before, Leliana tends to subsume her personality and adopt whatever traits the person she's following desires from her, which we saw with Bad!Leliana under Marjolaine, Sister!Leliana with Dorothea and potentially Hardened!Leliana under the Warden.
It's not hard to imagine that being thrust into the politics and intrigue of being the Hand of the Divine and her association with the Seekers, which requires her to once again engage in Bard-esque type subterfuge, coupled with Dorothea is why she's turned into a more Church Militant type of person, caused her to shift again and combine her Sister and Bad personalities into the more ruthless Leliana we see in the trailers for DAI, a personality that is much the same as that of if the Warden decided to Harden her?
(Plus torture tends to have an effect on people's personalities as well)
OMG. 184 pages on Leliana. I will now start at the beginning.
She wasn't really my cup of tea but I can understand if she was to other people, with the song, her history and being significantly less abrasive than the alternative. Seeing her in Dragon Age 2 was like running into an old friend. So Leliana will be a focused hardened professional by now. It would be nice to catch up and possibly heart breaking to see her die. Perhaps she will sing again?

Yeah, we've only seen her 'DA:I personality' after being tortured so it's kind of hard to make general assumptions about her from that.
Let's also not forget that the entire torture scenario is completely avoidable.
Somehow i don't see optional major character change...
it's already been stated that it is optional... That quest anyway so...Somehow i don't see optional major character change...

Yep i know but i don't see major change in character that is optional.
Ehh I don't see why not... In the past games the characters could be significantly different depending on your actions.
Which characters?
You just want her hate towards mages be a mandatory change, don't you?

it was a question for me?
it was a question for me?
Yes.
Yes.
Well i won't hide that such change would be convenient for me but it won't make me a difference if it is mandatory or not in fact i would prefer that to be optional so i could do otherwise in my other pt.Problem is that somehow i can't see optional major chances in personality of main character bio couldn't even handle 1 location depending on previous choices. At best as far i remember we got option harden alistair or leliana what pretty much brought little changes it changed that you could have threesome with isabela and some changes in epilogue.
What's going on with Cole now? I'm not braving the Cole thread to find out....
I don't look in there myself, just stuff I read about him and videos I've seen about folk talking about what he is. Poor Cole, nobody remembers. ![]()
So, saw it asked in the Varric thread...rap battle between Varric and Leliana. Who wins? :S

They both have too much taste.
This isn't the first time she's been tortured either. Last time she was it triggered a massive change in her attitude towards life so it's not shocking if it would do that again.
I don't think we can really make much assumptions until we see a lot more of her.
Sadly devs did change Leliana's personality in DAI towards more ruthlessness. I don't like it, even in her DLC she wasn't really cold hearted and calculating.

Yes well, between her DLC and Inquisiton, this happened:
Betrayal by Marjolaine.
Torture and possibly rape.
Fifth Blight (with hundred year old curses, slavery, regicide, etc.)
Chantry blown up by crazy mage dude
Mage-Templar War
Major explosion at a peace conference that possibly killed the Divine (a personal friend and mentor).
Sky torn open and demons pouring out.
I would have been surprised if her attitude hadn't changed, to be honest.

Personally, I'm too white, I'm outta my comfort zone here, can't answer that question. ![]()

I mean they changed her personality in Inquisition, in DAO Leliana was cheerful and compassionate.

I don't mind rap from Vivienne, or preferably jazz and blues
