Leliana's a complex enough character that you're not going to capture all she's about in one word.

Oh, you mean the dragon cultist whose followers tried to kill you repeatedly and who murdered several other people? The guy wanting to despoil her religion's most holy relic?Just an example off the top of my head?
1. The encounter with father Kolgrim, when she quite readily agrees that the good father in question need die, whether this comes from earnest religious devotion or not is irrelevant to me, she cast aside the basic human prerequisite: acknowledgement of another's right to exist. which by definition, matches with "lack of empathy"
I don't have a problem with killing Kolgrim. In fact, I've never spared him. Does that make me a sociopath?

._. No?
It is however a very distinct showing of not being empathetic, which i do recall, being your question.
Motives don't mean much in the greater scope of things, actions do.

I maxed out my Karma rating in Fallout New Vegas, and yet one of the things I did was murder the Great Khan's leader in his sleep. Games are funny that way.

So in other words, Leliana is demonstrating a lack of empathy by not being Stupid Good?
No, She is demonstrating a lack of empathy because even though a man is willing to treat with them and prevent more blood shed is in favor of killing them all anyway.

Although she responds favorably to honorable and good actions Leliana herself is a morally grey individual. She isn't easy to define, she has alot of shades to her.

He's willing to treat with you because he can't get to the Ashes on his own, and he believes that "Andraste" can't go on a rampage across Ferelden unless they're destroyed. If he could desecrate the Ashes, do you think he would be so diplomatic? Kolgrim turns on you the second you suggest his beliefs are wrong, and he only tries to bargain with you after you've cut a bloody swath through most of his cult and are one cavern away from the dragon.

She will be willing to let assassins who come after her go, tell the Warden to spare people who tried to kill them on no less then three separate times, and yet she is all for killing some folk to the last man.

I think it depends on wether its personal or not.
The assassins who got send by Marjolaine only did it for the money. Leliana knew that, so she decided to just let them go. She wouldn't let someone go though who personally tortured her.

The ones Marjolaine sent after her were just hired goons, so killing them all wouldn't have accomplished much. Better to cut the root of the problem out, which was why Marjolaine had to die. She would never stop hounding Leliana if you didn't kill her. And Leliana knows the game, she knew those assassins bared nothing personal towards her, it's just business so why bother killing them all.

By this line of logic
Why do i get the feeling you are going to grossly misrepresent my logic?
Leliana is showing a lack of empathy towards others by disagreeing with selling the elves to Caladrius. After all, he was willing to make a deal that would let everyone walk away with their lives. Granted, the elves would "alive" on a slave ship bound for Tevinter, but they would still be alive!
Yup, called it.
Well it seems that some folks just can't be swayed, they will argue and twist and turn, and its just like the Mage issue.
Some people just can't comprehend why its better to lock them all away from the common population.
