She left the "physical" chantry in Lothering, but never in her heart. Only by hardening her does she mentally leave it. Which is why I say it's probably not the "canon" of the novels and such. Since she still seems close to the Chantry, mentally speaking.

Yes, she carries it in her heart. But 10 years on...who knows how she feels now. I know how I feel not being able to carry on with our relationship.

While the Teutonics embraced and became intertwined with the Chruch, (that really paid off under the hapsburgs) the Templars did not tithe, did not align with them and were obliterated.

 

Does this not sound like some incarnations of the Inquisition some would play? To me the similarities are striking.

 

Beyond that, i disagree with your insinuation that i do not know history.

 

Good you do know you history. and indeed the templars had no allies. but the inquisition comes into play when the chantry of thedas is so weakened you can keep them from doing anything perhaps even permanently removing the chantries economic political power. simply forge strong ties to the imperial throne and to be honest the big hole in the sky is far more compelling reason to keep the inquisition around in case it happens again.

I can appreciate that time has not lessened Leliana's loveliness, but they already did that romance back in DAO. Either she's a) with the Warden or has (probably) been celibate for over a decade now while in service to the Chantry.

She was celibate for two years in the Lothering Chantry. I can't see how becoming the Left Hand of the Divine would make her set that aside. People go longer - their whole lives, even - without ever having sex.

But she made a point that she didn't want to take vows while she was in the Chantry. Plus after a bad break up it's normal to not want to be with someone for two years, 2 years really is not a long time... but 12 (cuz it's 12 if she isn't with the warden) I think that's pushing it.  Leliana make's it pretty clear that sex is something that she enjoys and I don't think she thought it was ever necessary to show her devotion to Andraste and the Maker by going celibate. After all her views on the Maker do not actually follow the word of the Chantry. 

 

And the Divine she served wasn't such an innocent herself. 

 

A beautiful woman like Leliana who clearly enjoys sex and the company of other woman going a whole 12 years without a single bit of fun just really seems odd to me. She's going to get offers and she's going to see people who might interest her, even as a spy she might find herself in a place where it might even be part of her work,

Not surprisingly. It would take some time to bounce back from what Marjolaine did to her.  12 though... for what reason? Too busy with work? Doubt it.

Well...she's pretty much doing bard work for the Chantry, so I doubt she hasn't had any...interesting jobs to do. Here and there anyway.

She is an assassin for dirty work i doubt that divine even admits she have any ties to her and what she is doing officially she is nothing more than lay sister...

Are you simply ignoring the fact that Divine she is serving had an affair with her ex girlfriend?  That the "current" Divine herself didn't put the Maker over her own personal desires. Yeah sure she was "only" a Reverand Mother at the time but it shows a lot about the kind of woman Leliana "is" working for. 

 

Not to mention that Leliana is the LEFT HAND of the Divine where as Cassandra is the RIGHT HAND. Her title is not an official one like Cassandra's. She was not christened in front of a group of people but rather done behind closed doors in the mask of secrecy. If the Maker came down to hypothetically shake their hands it would be Cassandra's hand that would be shaken not Leliana's. That's the whole point to Leliana's job, to do the dark and dirty things in her bard like position that the chantry can not openly do without it causing some kind of commotion.

I'm not ignoring it, I just don't think it's important. She's the Divine now. If you're suggesting that the Divine herself is engaging in such activity since her appointment ... well, Leliana would probably smack you for such a remark.

Sure, she does the Divine's dirty work. But it's all in service to the Maker. The Chantry doesn't forbid killing if it's done in his name, but chastity is sort of an expectation, especially among the sisters who are symbolically "wedded" to their god.

 

I don't really see the big deal. It's like the Isabela/Fenris hook-up; it only exists if you don't pursue either of them. Likewise, Chaste Leliana would only exist if the Warden wasn't there to seduce her out of those robes.

Seriously though she isn't really a sister (she never was a true sister). Pretty sure sisters aren't allowed to outright murder by their own hand also btw. It's why she's hired.
