Mmm, and people wonder why the Russians took like a 100% more losses then any other faction the war.
Scratch that, no one wonders.

URAAAA NAS MNOGO!
I even heard that the units attacking Berlin had zero backup. It would have simply fallen to the western Allies, had the Soviets failed.
But Leliana doesn't strike me as THAT kind of commander. I think she'll be more in line with the British/Finnish ways (British waged a desert war in north Africa. Finns stopped the entire Soviet war machine cold. Both used maneuver warfare, as far as I know.)

Last time I checked Finland lost the Winter war, giving some of it's territories to the Soviet Union(which admittedly suffered heavy casualties).
France and Britain wasn't really convincing against Germany too in WW2. France capitulated in 1940 with a million of dead, wounded and surrendering soldiers, the British forces were routinely beaten by Rommel who always was severely outnumbered plus he had Italians as allies for God's sake(huge liabilities). Americans were routed in Casserine. Only a huge numerical superiority helped Allies to beat Werrmacht.

Bullshit. They lost some soldiers because of frostbite but the Red Army inflicted most casualties.

Oh good, the old myth of Wehrmacht qualitative superiority. And here I was thinking that Omer Bartov killed that a few decades ago.

Eh, I gotta brush up on history I reckon. White flag as in to surrender.

Personally i find it be a mixture of myth and a handful of examples that are repeatedly cite it to make the notion of "german" superiority during the war stick across generations.
Though admittedly i will plainly credit Germany with major victories over the allies, but that has more to do with them just knowing exactly where to hurt the allies, having the materials in the field to kill large scores of soldiers in short order or simply having easily defensible positions, example, Hurtgen, Arhem, etc.
Case Blue is it self an example of a successful mobile offensive stratagem that was while immensely effective, ultimately a strategic failure.
...The lesson to take from world war two is never get involved in a land war in Asia.

Well, one of the more bizarre things about German military performance and effectiveness in the war is that, for whatever reason, a lot of the hobby-historians that harp on how amazing the Wehrmacht supposedly was focus on an extremely limited set of events. Sure, if you cherry-pick the Nazis' best campaigns, they're going to look like world-beaters. But the German military also piled up horrendous casualties in a lot of its operations, even if they were often successful (for a limited definition of the word 'successful'). And it virtually collapsed twice in the summer of 1944: in both west (COBRA) and east (BAGRATION). Both times, the Wehrmacht was on the losing end of an incredibly disastrous and humiliating defeat. Yet for the German military's fanboys - and it's sad that such a term even exists to accurately describe a group of people - neither the defeat in France nor the total destruction of Army Group Center says anything about the overall quality of the Wehrmacht. It's bizarre.
I mean, some American formations, like their 82nd Airborne, took on vastly superior German numbers and won every time, on both offense and defense. Similar examples exist in the British and Soviet armies. Germany did not exactly have a lock on elite troops or amazing victories.
Obviously, the Wehrmacht did do some...spectacular...things in the war, and its numerous defeats don't erase the victories. But to subsume those defeats under the rubric of "overwhelming numbers" or "the Germans beat themselves" is ahistorical and frankly pretty disturbing - examples of the sort of chauvinism that, back home, would make one the butt of this video. Somehow, though, I see this opinion all the time when I teach history to Americans. This country is weird.
I am going to have to disagree with you about the "land war in Asia" bit but otherwise good post.

Going back to the subject of Leliana, though...
My favorite Origin was always the City Elf. If I ever thought about having "one canon" Warden, the female City Elf would be the obvious choice. And me being me, I preferred the Leliana romance.
On my most recent City Elf run, I actually kept Fang, the dagger she can inherit from her mother, all the way through Origins to Awakening, when I used the upgrade chest in Vigil's Keep to buff it up to a decent material. Then I played through using a combination of Fang and Vigilance. I also tried to make the Warden look like a child of Cyrion and Adaia - facial structure, skin color, eye color, and so on.
Anyway, I know I'm definitely not the only person to ever think about a City Elf Warden talking about her mom with her girlfriend. There's got to be some fanfic or comic or whatever out there. If anybody could point me to it that'd be awesome; the last time I saw a deficiency of fanfic for an OTP somewhere, I tried to fill the void and that didn't go so well.
Conventionally, most people that I know of think of Leliana's Song as the 'true' story, with Leliana having, um, related a somewhat less true version when telling the Warden. But I have a hard time reconciling the Leliana of the romance arc with a Leliana who met her girlfriend's mother before she died and who could share memories, commiserate, and so on but doesn't do any of that and instead lies about it for no reason.
In lieu of an alternative explanation, I choose to believe that she'd tell the truth about it eventually, because otherwise that is some legit psycho stuff.

We could be twins! I used Fang all throughout the final act of Awakening, Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt. Without knowing about the dagger, I had also named my dog 'Fang,' so it was a happy coincidence. And I romanced Leliana to boot.
Of course, my CE Warden is male, so ...
