I don't believe the Warden has been gone for 10 years. When you meet Leliana in DA II, there's no indication that she's mysteriously disappeared. Leliana just says the Warden is dear to her heart.

I was referring to a Warden that had died slaying the archdemon, or who had been in a relationship with either Leliana or Morrigan that ended in DA:O. In either one of those imports Leliana or Morrigan has had 10 years to move on.

Teagan implies the Warden was still kicking in act 3, so we don't really know the time frame they've been gone. Less than 3 years I'd suspect

Let's face it: the Inquisitor's dragon helmet labels you as a dork. And as a cute girl, Leliana doesn't date dorks.

"You're such a nice guy/girl, Inquisitor. Why spoil our special friendship?"

It really gets on my nervs that people think Leliana has to have some kind of reason for her not wanting to be with the inquisitor.

No body has to have a reason for not liking someone in a romantic way.

But ...it's what's inside that counts!

I don't think she needs a special reason not to be interested in the Inquisitor.

I just would prefer she not spend 10 years pining for an ex (or for a Warden who was never interested) in imports where Leliana is not in a relationship with the Warden.

Being single does not necessarily mean she is pining for anyone. She can be single and happy and not interested in the Inquisitor.

Well said! Now, if only everyone else could accept that regarding all the party members in this game.

It's been 10 years. She's had more than enough time to find someone else, particularly considering that she's an attractive woman. There should be no shortage of potential suitors.

I think the problem with having Leliana or Morrigan remaining single for 10 years is that it builds up the Warden into a ridiculous Mary Sue, with former love interests (potentially) not being able to move on a decade after the Warden either died or dumped them. It also would serve to make Morrigan and Leliana feel more like collectible trophies for the Warden, rather than real people.

Some people can go through their entire lives without finding someone.

I like to think that both the inquisitor and leliana respect each other as coworkers, but aren't interested in each other.

Same with Leliana and Cassandra.

I'd like to see her play matchmaker for her friend Josie though...

Sure, if she doesn't mention anything about past relationship status.

But there might be dialogue about dead/dumped Warden. If single, that could give the impression that she hasn't moved on and has spent the last 10 years moping.

So I'd rather Leliana who wasn't with the Warden (for whatever reason) either starts the game involved with someone else, or develops a romance with another character on the team who is unromanced. Like Sera or Cullen.

There are always a few outliers, but how many of those are attractive, charming women? We're talking about Leliana here, not some lonely basement-dwelling neckbeard.  :D

Even attractive and charming women can go through life without meeting anyone, finding the right one isn't easy.

That would be a fun way to spark the romance with Josephine :P

Sure, but there's a big difference between not finding the right one and not finding anyone. The former is a lot more common.

And many of those women aren't serving a religious organization where an oath of celibacy is the norm.

An oath that Leliana tells the Warden in DA:O she never made.

And yet, one that she's basically been following for the past two years. (At that time.)

I wonder if this game will give the Warden and her a Happily Ever After.

It's the problem of tie-in fiction and sequels because the Warden should be as important to Leliana and Alistair as anyone else in their lives.

But they barely get even alluded to.

Because she was living in a church and doing good deeds versus dating.

I actually wouldn't have a problem with Leliana going full-speed ahead with the nun routine, so long as the motivation is clearly religious piety and not a sense of loss over the Warden's demise, being dumped, or unrequited love. While I would prefer Leliana lead a normal life without the Warden (chastity isn't normal), it wouldn't be facepalm inducing..unlike presenting the Warden as a special snowflake with whom Leliana is obsessed, unable to even contemplate a relationship with someone else for an entire decade.

I dunno, if the Warden isn't dead but missing then dating might be decidedly abnormal.

At best, the Warden has been missing a couple of years, not 10.
