But she really shouldn't be coming back without the Warden. Unless she was just seducing him for some reason and never intended to fulfill her promises of love and dedication.
So, will there be a line of her referring to what happened to the warden (if he/she was alive in the end of witch hunt) in DAI? Or their relationship? It seems unlikely that she would just walk away and left the warden alone if she was romanced.
There was a 'go to the war table to find the Warden' objective in one of the recent gameplay demos. It could mean anybody, but maybe finding the Warden is something we can send an adviser to do rather than ourselves. I imagine if Leliana was romanced she would probably step up to do that pretty quick.

I think Cullen is afraid of women...he made a quick exit from me in DA:O.when I made a suggestion to him (I was a female) and in DA2 he couldn't even go into the Blooming Rose.

Pretty much sure they went own paths after dao when warden went to do what you have chose them she went to work for divine.
What if the Grey Warden's disappearance is due to the Elder One.
What if he or she knew about the Elder One and tried to defeat EO before DAI and failed resulting in the EO turning the Grey Warden into his own General.

I wouldn't be surprised if throughout the game, Leliana talks about the Warden and her relationship with him/her.
Companions have to be taken in the landscape but I won't also not be surprised if the advisers may come for certain special missions like spying for Leliana.

Personally, I like to think the Warden was personally ordered by the First Warden to go investigate something regarding the darkspawn. We did get hints in DA2 that they're up to something.
