For trying to needlessly defile an urn of ashes that could cure any disease known to man? Yeah, she totally deserved to die due to that.
Lolz. In my first DAO playthrough, I did that, then had sex with her for the first time after leaving Haven.

She was hardened, right?
Well, yes.
I stopped doing that in subsequent playthroughs because it felt wrong and character-breaking. But my first memory is still hilarious.

I banged her right off of defiling the Ashes too. It was funny at the time, but considering that I'd just scared her out of trying to end my life I'm not sure I like either of the two possible interpretations of what was going through her head when I slept with her. (One intepretation is that she's completely faithless; the other, which I really find scary, is that Leiliana might not have been sure whether or not she'd had the option of saying "no.")

Given that Leliana's romance conversation involves her propositioning you, IIRC, I find the second one deeply unlikely.
Why do you think it's wrong?
I couldn't think of a good in-universe justification for Leliana's mood swing.

Then it's probably that she's disconcertingly inconsistent.

Y'know, I've only just noticed this, but does her Sacred Ashes armour look like it's got a variant of the Inquisition's logo on it?
A flaming sword, with a swirl that looks like an eye in the middle of it?
Or am I just seeing things?

I'm pretty sure that's just the silver sword of mercy

I really wish romances were a bit more reactive and that doing something a character vehemently disapproves of would completely lock you out. Defiling the ashes for Leliana, taking Orana as a slave and telling Fenris you approve of the practice, etc etc.

While it's unclear if people know about her potential romantic involvement with the Warden, it's worth noting that in DA2, once she introduces herself to Hawke, one of the dialogue options is to inquire whether or not she's "The Leliana", suggesting that she's somewhat of a well-known figure?
It's also probably why she's been forced to use the name "Sister Nightingale" as her codename, since her real name is too recognisable at this point?
That makes sense.
Also she lives in a setting where there is no photography, so most people probably have no idea what Leliana looks like, or at best have only heard a vague description like 'red-haired Orlesian bard.' Simply adopting a nom-de-guerre might be enough to disguise her identity.

Interestingly, Anders seems to have the only romance that does this, if you feed Feynriel to Torpor.

Why do you think it's wrong?
I never preferred Hardening her either. She became less like Leliana and more like Isabela.

I think Xilizhra is referring to threatening her at the Ashes and scaring her into fighting alongside you, then continuing the romance as though she had never even considered murdering you in the face. That makes no sense as far as Leiliana's character goes. Getting back into the swing of being a pragmatic, seducing killer, though? Whether or not you think those tendencies should be encouraged, they make sense for the character in the context of her past and what she's been going through recently, especially once she receives words of advice from your character to allow herself to wake those qualities back up.

She lacks the dirty jokes + sleeping around for the sake of it.

Yes, that.
I hardened her in my first run purely to have a threesome with Isabela... which I don't think is that bad. But then I decided against it... but then it turned out not to matter in DAI, so I feel better.
