Given that she isn't a companion, she'll probably be wearing the hood Kasumi-style for the entire game too.

She has her hands full with the inquisition, and the Warden is nowhere to be seen. In the DA2 ending she didn't even know where the warden was. The impression I get is that she has moved on.

Morrigan's pretty much in the same boat 

 

The Warden mysteriously vanished.  I don't take that as a breakup of any sorts.

My assumption is that the Warden has been captured, killed or left on a secret mission and didn't bring Leliana in order to protect her. None of those possibilities necessitates a break-up.

I do agree about her DA2 dialogue. I also came away with the impression that she was speaking about her relationship with the Warden in the past tense. There just seemed to be an undertone of sadness there, that would be out of place otherwise.

 

That being said the DA2 was vague, and Leliana doing her own thing in DA:I might not necessarily mean that her relationship with the Warden has ended. Or if it has ended, that the split is even permanent. They could also go the Jaheira route with the Warden & Leliana, for example...

 

 

Plenty of romance arcs in fiction are non-traditional. For the Witcher fans, Geralt and Yennefer is another example.

 

Simply put, we don't really know for sure what's up with Leliana & the Warden yet.

I hated Jaheira's not-together epilogue.

Leliana has been, what, ten years in Orlais nightingaling for the big D, likely without having seen the Warden. Now since we know little of DAI I could be wrong about this, but this is the vibe I get.

Except we know Leliana's not with our warden, where with Morrigan, since going through the eluvian (if that was your choice) is what we often go off of for why the warden disappeared, most people assume they're together in da2, and we don't even know if Morrigan won't be with the warden in Inquisiton. But we do know that the warden won't be a part of the Inquisition so even if at the most Leliana and the warden get reunited and we do see them together at some point or another during the game they will not be together for the whole of it.

I liked it because it wasn't the typical fairy tale ending, without being a downer. It was a happy ending, though non-traditional. Of course I can understand why some might not like it.

I think the assumption is that the Warden disappeared 10 years prior to DA:I and hasn't been seen. I believe that is Bioware's official canon, though I'm not exactly sure on the timeline when the Warden disappears. In any case, it has been years even if not quite a decade.

I figured they would do a one size fits all fate for the Warden.  A Warden who went with Morrigan through the eluvian would have came back with her too and then 'poof'...vanished.

It depends on what they'll even do with the Warden I guess.  The eluvian thing could make a difference.

King Alistair mentions meeting the Hero of Ferelden in Denerim during Act 3 of DA2 so the Warden is around at that point at least.

Oh look it's this conversation again I'm sure we'll find out whats going on between them in October... patience.

The Warden disappearing at or around the same time as Hawke is probably the best guess then.
