Divine Stabbity. It's interesting, if not exactly happy for my Warden. That she's doing something for the elves helps.

Though I fear that maintaining a relationship, at least a physical one, would be impossible, in the circumstances. At least for non-Couslands, the scandal would risk discrediting her reforms. Also I'd expect Leliana to take her vows seriously if she makes them. But they wouldn't stop loving each other

**** no. Leliana said she wouldn't let anything keep them apart again. And if Leliana actually wants to become Divine and doesn't mention anything about her being conflicted because of the Hero of Ferelden, I have no doubt that Leliana has a plan in mind to keep things going.

I also ended up getting a ruthless Divine Stabbity, and it didn't even require any much thought to me that I messed this up. I actually like the idea of Leliana continuing the work that Justinia set in motion, but this is... too fast. The epilogue mentioning blood running through the cathedral is not exactly reassuring either .

I wonder though, can anyone here tell me how her epilogue is if she doesn't end up ruthless?

I think, objectively, unhardened Leliana is

the best choice for a Divine. She seems like the only Divine to me that I feel her reforms will hold influence even after her death.

I loved what they did with her character, and her romance with the Warden. Now let's just cross-fingers that in a DLC or Sheryl will confirm that Leliana doesn't break up with the Warden regardless what fate you choose for her.

I mean,

if you do her personal quest with a romance import, you find out that Justinia approved of their relationship, and let them be together even after Leliana became Left Hand. They had the Divine's blessing, we don't know if something more happened at that Chantry (like if they secretly got married, though that would only be for male Wardens)

but, either way, if the Divine approved of their relationship, I don't see Leliana wanting to end it. Which actually makes sense why she doesn't mention the Warden in the epilogue.

It appears Cassandra had no idea, so I'm guessing Leliana was keeping her off the trail for whatever reason like Varric was. Not sure why seeing as they wouldn't be able to get to them anyway, but...

Surprised Cassandra never got pissed at her too...

Also, I decided to make my Warden dead in my second playthrough just to see the differences, and holy crap, Leliana's romanced dialogue is heartbreaking.

First conversation she basically stutters off and decides she doesn't want to talk about her anymore. Second conversation, she basically says the Maker brought them together and then she watched her die, and she already seems to have gone cold to the Maker at that point - Justinia's death was basically just the final nail in the coffin.

 

"I was with the Hero of Ferelden when she defeated the Archdemon. The Maker brought us together, and then I watched her die. In that instant, I felt the Maker’s presence grow cold. One moment a cherished child, the next… abandoned."

 

Leliana needs a hug. I prefer my Warden alive state already.

I just came across a note in the tavern for an Archery contest. Leli is judging it. i squee about this. I suppose I successfully befriended/unhardened her so far. Also she now says "I'm listening" when I approach her to talk in the rookery. Small tings.

as far as the divine stabbity, personally i would like the cathedrals to run red, but for thedas's sake i might have to make cassandra divine... even if it messes up my inquisitor's romance....  Or maybe just get viviene to do it, but she doesnt seem radical enough.

That is one of the 2 unlogicals behaviour I found regarding warden disappearance, why would she keep that hidden, is she that selfish?. Leliana knows that duty must come first yet she kept this away.

This is more a oversight from Bioware in my opinion.

Agreed. If she breaks up with the warden, the warden will be the 2nd Maferath, but this time, the targets are whoever voted her as divine.

Welcome to my top five favorite Bioware character list! I love her in DAI way more than Origins.

I like her evolution in that really sad sort of way, but I really miss Origins Leliana. Probably why my favourite moments are when old her slips through.

Like her scoffing at all the 'crimes against fashion' at Halamshiral. Or requisitioning nice shoes for soldiers in the Western Approach to increase morale. Or stealing all the chocolates you get from Maevaris at the War Table for herself. 'The chocolates are mine, but I pass the rest onto you, Inquisitor.'

What I find interesting is that, reading the fan reception on Leliana post-Inquisition it seems to go two ways, like the path you choose for her.

 

People who loved her in Origins prefered the unhardened version and didn't like the hardened one because it differed way too much from her cheerful, sweet nature in Origins.

People who didn't like her/were neutral about her loved her hardened version more, some people I know say she's now in their top 5 Bioware companions after Inquisition because of her character development.

 

All in all, the reaction seems to be overly positive, what do you guys think about her character arc? Liked it, love it, hate it? 

I understand the people who say she was a very depressing, dark character, but it was sort of expected, it makes  her more realistic, more human.

I personally loved her, even though there were moments when I didn't want to start a conversation with her cause I knew I was gonna go I'm CRY after talking to her.

Well, I liked her character development this game, all things considered. Actually thought it was one of the most profoundly sad things to watch that I've come across in a game so far given how much I loved her in Origins - it's a believable change too, given everything that's happened. 

 

Still, redoing my canon. It was interesting to see, but...

The one where she appears to have considered/attempted/succeeded in suicide? Well, probably not, but it definitely appears to hit her very hard, unsurprisingly. Wouldn't be surprised if the part where she vanishes off the grid for a while in that scenario before resurfacing as Sister Nightingale was true, though.
