I imagine people have seen this but it took me by surprise. If you don't talk to Dorain and have him officially join the Inquisition so he's just chilling in Skyhold when you trigger Cullens chess cutscene he is instead playing Leliana. I guess the brilliant/magnificent mind she's is described as having doesn't translate to Thedas chess . It plays out the same way but this seems like a scene that could be easily missed. I thought it was neat

both she lied because it was an over sight. at the time of DA2 they probably did not have planned what the warden was up too if alive and romanced with leliana

It could be Leliana was being economical with the truth. She didn't know exactly where the Warden was. Or it was an oversight. Take your pick.

I'm going to go with her being evasive about it. I remember there was a banter between Anders and Merill if you imported a Dalish Warden where Anders seems to imply the Warden has become a bit obsessed with their privacy, so perhaps Leliana was respecting that.

She did make it out to be a very personal quest, after all.

Not gonna lie, I picked through every nook and cranny in the rookery looking for the private letter. I was hoping I could snoop.

Oh well, she comments on it if you talk to her again. Good enough.

I'm kind of disapointed the game didnt have an option to play that involved Liliana being dead if in your origins play through you killed her when corrupting the urn of sacred ashes.

Well if you do get the unhardened version of her after Valence she is all around happy and back to being her giggling self. This is my headcanon from now on. Which then requires my Inquisitor to not be an *******. Or just a hypocrite where he is alright with killing people willy nilly but when it comes to Leliana's choices he is all against going down the dark path.

Similar to being a bit surprised by her being able to replace Dorian in the chess scene with Cullen, the next interesting thing I've seen on my new playthough is if your Cousland takes the throne, Leliana gets yet another title when they're doing the lengthy introductions at Halamshiral.

Yep. I explained it at the top of the page. From what I did, I sided with the templars thus Dorian wasn't automatically part of the Inquistion; he's still in his place in Skyhold but you have to talk to him first to officially join. So I kinda forgot about him and traveled a bit and when Skyhold was repaired I went up to Cullen's area and talked to him the chess scene played out with Leliana instead. Curious I loaded a save and talked to and got Dorian to join and when I then talked to Cullen the chess scene played out with Dorian. I found this interesting since it's kind of hidden away as most people won't see it with her.

Getting through my second playthrough, and I've managed to keep her unhardened this time. Much better.

Now I just hope the game doesn't rain on my parade and make her Divine for whatever reason.

So because the game tries to set my computer on fire everytime I play it, I haven't gotten to enjoy becoming BFF's with Best French Girl, and that's making me kinda grumpy.

 

So here's a question to sate my curiosity until they patch the game: If you Unharden Leliana in the game, how much more does she become like her Origins self?

You know, looking at the way Leliana and some of the other people in the Inquisition can change, this game really should have a sanity meter. Or something like in Indigo Prophecy where we see people's mental state improve or degrade based on situations. Neutral, stressed, depressed, overwrought and wrecked were the degrees. It would have been appropriate considering how many people can go off the deep end in this game.

I don't think Leliana has ever been completely sane. A few people here, myself included, think she has dependent personality disorder.

Listen to how fondly she reminisces about Marjolaine in Origins despite what the woman put her through. Look at how easily the Warden can influence her. Justinia too. And now the Inquisitor can as well.

 

Leliana completely changes her attitude to please the person holding her strings, as it were. She's not happy unless she's someone's b**ch. That's... problematic in so many ways. She's desperate for the world to be stable, so she clings to someone who appears strong. That person always leaves her either through betrayal, death or absence [in the case of a still alive, romanced Warden].

 

The disturbing thing is that the Inquisitor can harden Leliana even if she was softened by a Warden who is still alive and kicking. That's how bad her dependency issues are. Actually, my Lady Cousland would have some words for the Inquisitor if he/she went and twisted her precious Leliana that way.

 

 

 

But I can't complain about the writing. Leliana is consistant in her many, many issues.

Yeah, I remember someone (maybe you) made a lengthy write up on that a while ago. T'was interesting, never really noticed it before.

Another reason an Ultimate Sacrifice/Leliana romance import is soulcrushingly depressing in Inquisition. She can hardly muster up the will to even speak about it, and when she does it ends up having that ripped away from her broke her faith long ago. Now pile Justinia on top of that...

Glad that's not my canon...my Mahariel will hopefully not be as pissed with the Inquisitor for not doing what she asked this playthrough. :S

It's kinda difficult to distinguish from the general jedi-ness of Player Characters, though.

And I wouldn't say the Inquisitor hardens Leliana. I'd say the Inquisitor has to soften Leliana. Agreeing or remaining silent or non-commital results in hard Leliana
