And after they announced that, another Civil War started in Ferelden. No heir to the throne, Leliana as King Cousland's mistress, and now their King is missing only add fuel to this new War.
One question though, which Warden do you see fit Leliana more? Or who is your canon Warden-Leliana romance? Mine is a female Cousland. Leliana does perfer woman more, and both lost many they loved.

Why on earth would they announce that?
It must be an Orlesian thing.... they did the same for Vivienne.

My canon Warden is a female Dalish romancing Leliana. Always found the cultural difference you can see in one of their conversations interesting.

Why on earth would they announce that?
It's an honourable position in Orlais. Just look at Vivienne. And she's only mistress to a Duke.

In Orlais wouldn't that basically be the equivalent of announcing 'Mistress to the Queen of that backwater that we all hate' though? :S
Slumming is considered edgy by some... ![]()

That's part of the reason I found it so funny and reloaded to tried and get a good screen of her in the centre. This is the Orelsian court and you're warned that tensions are high and then they announce that. I would like to think there are some Orelsian nobles that are laughing and snickering about Alistair at that time
.
It begs the question though how well known are the Warden and Leliana if romanced? In this scenario it's obvious if only for this one scene. It's known that she traveled with the Hero via the convo "you are well connected" you have with her and the DAA epilogue mentioned they're seen in Denerim but is it common knowledge? Obviously there is limitations on how much they can put in a game especially for a certain import but you'd think it would be somewhat of a big deal or referenced by others.

Personally my canon is the female city elf rogue since I find it fits really well. Obviously some headcanoning comes into play. They're both rogues and can bond over bard training and female since I think it fits better(I don't want to get in an argument about that). It's mentioned that the city elf takes after her mother who is described as adventurous and free flowing which seems to be similar to younger Leliana. I think good conflict can take place between them as Leliana is a tad ignorant of elves and the city elf has issues with humans. Humans killed her mother and the events of the Origin story definitely comes into play. Ultimately the only human that she'd likely has heard good things about is the red headed angel that saved her mother. In her DLC Adaia says "I will teach my child of humans like you. you are a light in a dark place." For them to meet, break racial prejudices, and fall in love even if they don't know this past seems really sweet. Maybe the Maker did play divine matchmaker? I just really like it.

I think Leliana fits wonderfully with any Warden - and given how many warden's I've romanced her with, I speak from experience - though since my canon is an Andrastean but chantry-sceptical City Elf

Damn, just finished the game with an hardened Leliana. Didnt know, that killing the traitor would end up in Leliana becoming hardened.
I ****** hate what Bioware did with her character in Inquisition.
Does an unhardened Leliana differ a lot from a hardened one? Ive only found this video:
Man, this makes me so sad at the moment. I want my happy Leliana back.

I think Leliana would always be in the crazy spectrum.
Just crazy in a good way, potentially. :S
That reminded me of the
"I knew last night was a bad idea. You're all crazy now"
"Crazy now? Liar. You thought I was crazy the first time you met me.
Then I got sad remembering cheerful DAO Leliana
I don't think Leliana has ever been completely sane. A few people here, myself included, think she has dependent personality disorder.
But I can't complain about the writing. Leliana is consistant in her many, many issues.
I actually used to think the same thing about her being overly attached to authority figures maybe as a result of her mothers death but after DAI I began to think it's more of a case of always catching her at her lowest point in LS, DAO and DAI. She's going through so many internal conflicts looking for an answer that being nudged in a direction just seems human. In LS she's in love and has no where else to go but the streets. She's in love with Marjolaine and would do anything for her which can be considered normal human nature. Then the betrayal happens and Dorthea saves her life(Sorry Leliana as much as Dorthea says that you saved yourself I disagree). That's a huge turning point, she meets Dorthea and she recovers over a period of years at the Chantry. When she joins the Warden I don't find her overly dependent, it's when her personal quest starts that she starts to relive the good and bad of a past she thought was gone resulting in going through these emotional conflicts about who she is. I find it interesting in both games you can ask her does the monologue help when she tries to sort things out through reminiscing to herself . She's in a mentally weak state and thus can be nudged into following a path. I think it's more of that case then changing to better suit her authority figure.
Dorthea/Justina is arguably the most important person in her life so her service to her as Hand seems to fit. She owes her her life, and is the reason for her faith. Was she dependant on her? Yes but she shared a special bond of mother, mentor teacher. I think her time with Justina makes sense. Then DAI happens. Just like before we see a familiar character arc with tragedy striking, internal conflict and the PC being able to "shape" her personality. But this time there is no one to rescue her and no where to run to for shelter, she instead has to deal with it and take action and deal with her own demons. She's in this emotional state and trying to sort it out through most of the game. I remember her character interview said even if she wanted to show more carefree side of her personality she can't for appearances sake. I feel that's she's vulnerable in this state and thus looks to how the Inquisitor acts and decides based on that. Once again I don't think it's a case of being dependent on the PC and shaping to their will rather it's her weakened emotional state allowing for her to be nudged towards a path. Outside of these emotional conflicts she seems normal and confident in herself. I just feel it's just in these distressed states that allow for her changes.
But yeah, whether it's this or what you say or anything else she has issues. I really wonder what would happen if Justina lived or the conclave was success and peace happened? I feel a lot of the edge was a result of the death. While her conscious is constantly dealing with what she has been doing as Hand, with Justina and her faith I think she would remain stable. Josie mentions how she used to sing and be cheerful but the years changed her. I just wonder how much the beginning of the game tipped more towards the edgy side.
So...I have a question that I MUST ask. It concerns Leliana, but it contains spoilers and I'm not sure whether or not I should be posting this here.

Was there a long writeup on Leliana having dependent personality disorder (something that I've never heard of)? If so, I'd love to read it.
I also am doing my best to not associate this with thinking about Leliana's sex life.

I killed Marjolaine...does that give me a hardened Leliana? because I like hardened Leliana.
Also, I'm skeptical as to whether she was originally "unhardened." I think the sweet part of her was just an act in DAO because she is also a bard, and that's part of her role.

Leliana clearly doesn't regard the relationship as a secret, she'll chat about it without much prompting, even with a total stranger like Hawke.I think Leliana fits wonderfully with any Warden - and given how many warden's I've romanced her with, I speak from experience - though since my canon is an Andrastean but chantry-sceptical City Elf

There are still traces of her sweet side even in DAI, so I doubt that.

Unfortunately it happens so late in the game there isn't a huge difference outside headcanon and caring about her.

Still prefer giving her the one thing she wants, traveling with the Warden, so no.
I'm fine with unhardened Leliana as Divine, but I still feel like getting rid of the Circle isn't the way to go. The Circle need fixes, but it's not entirely broken, no need to destroy it.

Yay!!! but still prefer Leliana to travel with the Warden, getting her away from the Chantry for her sake. Only seem to bring her pain so far.
