My female elven mage warden who romanced Leliana and died killing the Archdemon is actually coming close to being my canon. Just...so sad, but felt so thematically fitting for Leliana this game.
She 'felt the Maker's presence grow cold' the moment she watched her Warden die judging by her dialogue. I helped her find that faith again, and now she's Divine...and I like to headcanon that, partly in memory of her late love, she's made life better for mages and elves.
Really bittersweet, actually.

I always like my elven mage. He was the anti-Jowan.. hooking up with a Redheaded Chantry sister named Lilly/Leli all the same though.

You should try it sometime, for perspective. Made me appreciate my canon state with the Warden alive so much more, after seeing how important the Warden really is to her in a world state where she isn't around anymore. :C

I played with the Warden alive.. I guess I wanted to do something extremely different with the Ashes..
Just fyi, I never meant anything bad by it.
I'll admit I actually came very close to crying when I asked Leliana about the Warden in Haven for the first time, and she started fondly recalling her but then started trailing off and the conversation ended because she couldn't speak about it anymore and needed a moment.

That is sad....but this I do like...
The first dialouge was sad..but I think second dialouge about it was worse. (the one you get after you reach skyhold). After going through both an alive and dead warden romance, I prefer the dead-romance import, as it flows with the story imo. After playing it it wouldnt surprise me if she was meant to be the romance in a default world state, but they decided against it for some reason.*conspiricy theory*

They'll never canonize/default any romances (thank the Maker!), but they've gone on record saying she was the most played/popular romance. So they recognize her status either way.

It doesn't make a difference as far as I know.
Marjolaine being dead or not was a tile that was added pretty late into the Keep's development anyway, so it couldn't really do anything.
It also seems she's dead by the time Inqusiition comes around regardless, from what I've gathered. Always killed her myself.
Does anyone know what Leliana's dialogue is like in DAI if you romanced her and then left her to die in Origins? In the Keep, you can do that.
I imagine the dialogue is the same as solely leaving her to die, but wondering if there's any dialogue in which she mentions she was in a relationship with the Warden.
I've heard that this particular combination caught the devs off-guard and she alternates between speaking fondly and bitterly of the Warden. Same thing for those who romanced Morrigan and then stabbed her in Witch Hunt.

I think one of my favorite things in the game related to Leliana was definitely the letter I got from my warden.
My warden was Dalish and the fact that she acknowledged that my Inquisitor was also Dalish was a really nice touch.

But then I found out it was a real possibility and it didn't feel right anymore, not with a romanced Warden still out there trying to stop the Calling for her sake. And by the way becoming the head of the Chantry is literally the opposite of "laying down her burden"...
