I swear I must be only the one person who romanced Leliana as a male.
You're not the only one

What you talkin about!?
I'm a M!Warden x Leliana romancer!
I swear I must be only the one person who romanced Leliana as a male.
Well I have a male Warden who romanced her.
Female Surana/Leliana is my canon though.
I swear I must be only the one person who romanced Leliana as a male.
My canon is a male Cousland that romanced Leliana.
And Morrigan. And Isabela with Leliana.
I was reading about the middle ages at the time and a lot of the kings and such had bastards, so it kind of influenced how I played that noble.

I tried every permutation of the Leliana romance (I couldn't help it.), but my favorite is with the female city Elf. There's just something about that pairing...
Love the new avi, Han. ![]()

Thanks. It makes me want to change my login name to Grampy Bone though. ![]()
I'm kinda jealous of people who are more flexible with their characters/pairings.
I got so attached to my canon female Mahariel and Leliana that I can hardly play any other characters. Whenever I try, the Warden I'm playing feels like an imposter and I need to go back. I like my canon too much.
The struggle.

I'm rather fond of the elf Warden/Leliana relationship in general, because the elf-specific conversation with her is one of my favourite dialogue exchanges in the series.
The fact that she actually approves if you call her out on her unintentionally offensive statements, and dat getting over cultural difference...dis is why I wub her tbh. :3

Leliana has the distinct characteristic of being open minded to the point that it becomes a flaw at times. She's too willing to let people she looks up to direct her life. A little lack of backbone.

Leliana is very submissive. Just look at her relationships.

I think it's the absence of parents in her youth. Her mother died young, and since she only briefly mentions her father I get a similar impression with him. Either he was a deadbeat that skipped out early, or he died when Leliana was very young. I lean towards the latter because Leliana never says anything negative about him either.
I've always gotten the impression Lady Cecile wasn't much of a surrogate parent either, judging by the way she worded 'made me take music and dance to entertain her.' Sounds kinda like she was...well, a source of entertainment more than anything else. She was technically her servant after all.
Which means Marjolaine was probably the closest thing to a 'mentor figure' she ever had. Scary thought.

She doesn't talk much about her father. I don't remember her saying anything about him, actually. Her 'role models' in her early life have been unfortunate. Lady Cecily was kind, but I get the impression she was treated more as a pet than anything else. Then of course there was Marjolaine who did an amazing job of messing her up. I wonder how old Leliana was when she fell in with Marjolaine?

Older , but none the wiser sadly. Betrayal is the pits of any relationship.

It would certainly explain a lot.

As far as I can tell she has one line where she mentions her father back in DA:O, and it is easily missed. The other two dialogue options lead to responses where he isn't mentioned. She doesn't really say anything about him however except that he was Orlesian.

Mid to late teens I'd guess, perhaps? Young enough to fall in with the wrong crowd and be bent to her will more than she would otherwise, I guess.
It's kind of sad when you consider between her mother dying before she ever really knew her, Cecile's rather pet-like treatment, Marjolaine's general nastiness and calling her 'pretty thing,' that the Warden is potentially the first person we know of to really treat her like a living, breathing person. Perhaps Justinia too, but even she ended up using her as the living weapon Marjolaine fashioned her into in the end, even if she did regret it.
How I look at it anyway. ;_;

Doubly so when thinking just what kind of things Marjolaine 'mentored' her in. So much squick.
Now I have to make sure she never gets hardend ever again in DA:I! ![]()

I agree. Leliana's life is a cycle of 'good influence-bad influence'.
Her mother: probably good, but died early.
Marjolaine: horribly bad.
Dorothea: Good at the time.
Warden: Depends on the player.
Justinia: Bad at that time.
Cassandra: Good. I would consider her an influence on Leliana because her faith is so strong. Leliana would respect and admire that.
The Inquisitor: Depends on the player.
I'm not sure where Josephine fits in time wise, but given the sister vibe from the relationship I'm not sure how much influence Josephine has on Leliana as opposed to the other way around.
Marjolaine calling her 'pretty thing' was so creepy.
The saddest part about Marjolaine is not just that the relationship was dark and twisted, but that Marjolaine may have faked the whole thing just to manipulate Leliana. To Marjolaine Leliana might have been nothing other than a tool that was useful for a time. When it was no longer useful, it was cast aside.
Now I have to make sure she never gets hardend ever again in DA:I!
I committed myself to not doing that long ago. She's a poor, messed up bundle of bad life choices...I'd like to keep her from getting too messed up. ![]()

Forgot about Josephine. I'd say it's both ways, I've always noticed Leliana just seems all around brighter in her general demeanor when hanging around her. Plus, she's like the good side of her conscience, floating over her shoulder and nagging her in contrast to the lingering devil floating on the other one that is Marjolaine.
"Niceness before knives!"

Leliana imitating Josephine was so funny! You can tell how fond she is of Josie, even as she makes fun of her there.
And yes, Leliana is a shipwreck of issues. If anyone ever needed counselling...(oh, could rant about Cole...)
Then there is this:
Cullen: If you squint, lake Calenhad is shaped like a bunny.
Josephine: Perhaps we should take a...('break', I assume)
Leliana: Ooh! I think I see it.
Is it just me, or do they all sound tired? I picture Leliana had her head resting on her arms, she lifted her head to look and laughed. She sounds amused. Like she's 'fatigue drunk', know what I mean?
