Random question: what kind of wine would Leliana prefer? Dry? Fruity? Red? White? Rosé? Sparkling?
I can see her as a bubbly fancier.
I'd say red.

Red with a light fruity tone, probably semi-dry (demi-sec), Grand Cru. I can imagine St Emillion actually, or Medoc.
Anything that goes well with the honey Cole stirs into it in Justinia's memory. Of course, as someone who doesn't drink, I am clueless as to what wine that would apply to. ![]()

Not sure about honey but the seasonal drink mulled wine(red) has spices added to it. Maybe honey can be done too.

I looked it up, actually. Ancient Romans used to stir honey into their wine. People have tried it and the consensus is that it's better with white than red. Red wine overpowers the honey.
But, back to Leliana. If we could have more advisor/companion interactions in Skyhold, which companions would you like to see Leliana with, and what would they do or talk about? Do they get up each other's grill or do they bond over something? Does she change her mind on them over time?
I would love to see her interact more with Sera: I think they have a lot in common and we already know Leliana has a soft spot for her. They could bond over archery, more pranks (I can imagine Sera suggesting a goodbye-prank on the new Divine before she leaves Skyhold for the coronation) and possibly the few memories Sera has of her childhood, maybe about a small painted box handed to her by a stranger in Denerim or a certain redheaded rogue who helped the Hero of Ferelden save her Alienage from slavers and darkspawn ![]()
Then there's Morrigan: I know she's not really a companion/advisor but... she and Leliana are my favorite DAO ladies, they were under the same roof for a good portion of the game and all we got between them were snarky comments in the War Room and an easily missable mention of Morrigan's dress. Now they'll probably never see each other again. So much wasted potential ![]()
I'd like a scene with softened Leliana and freshly post-Revelation, stewing-in-his-misery Blackwall. Given her own backstory with all the Bardic crap she pulled for Marjolaine, how it ended in her betrayal and torture and desire to change, she probably has an inkling of what he feels. What I picture isn't a fuzzy show of acceptance (even softened Leliana isn't that soft), but rather a calmly cool, controlled display of mental and physical scars combined with questions as pointed and precise as dagger strikes, designed to both test and bolster his resolve. She can't offer forgiveness even if he'd accept -- she'd say only his victims or the Maker could do that -- but she can show the path she's walked, show that he isn't the first, last or only one who committed grave crimes and still kept going although it's hard and painful and there are no guarantees.
He'd probably leave feeling worried, shaken and confused, but also with a tiny spark of hope.
I just got the dialogue where Leli gets concerned for Josie, if i romance her. D'awwww. ![]()
Talking about Alistair....
Spoiler
She quite liked Alistair, I imagine there would be.
I remember seeing it on youtube, it was pretty underwhelming. It was pretty much "Alistair is dead? Oh, what a shame, guess I'll raise a toast for him tonight,".
I was baffled there's no mention of the two being friends -- or having been friends, though I can't imagine them not trying to stay in touch -- when Alistair's war table missions popped up. Though I was even more baffled by the fact that master diplomat Josie and master spy/old friend Leliana apparently neglected to get his blessings for building their little military/religious organization on Fereldan territory.
Really, the game failed to to have the dynamic between the DA:O cast members that I wanted. I wished there were more talks between Leliana and Morrigan/Alistair.

Yeah, Leliana actually reflects on Zevran as a good friend, but not Alistair at any point. And unlike Alistair and Leliana I don't remember Zevran and Leliana being particularly friendly in their conversations. Not much anyway. :S
"Everything was good, but her face."
"You're a bad man."

It could be that Leliana did not consider Alistair a friend per say. She liked him, but Alistair is so naive that she was afraid to reveal her darker side to him as he could not understand it. Zevran could however. And so could the Warden, potentially. Both the Dwarven and the city Elf background would know a fair bit about the nastier side of society.
Spoiler
Awww. But yeah, bit underwhelming. Definitely doesn't stack up to Varric mourning Hawke. ;_;
Even Varric mourning Loghain is much better than this ![]()

Alistair was naive, but he was also a very good guy at heart, so I don't think he'd have viewed her so harshly -- especially with him being so starved for affection and connection. To me, my Warden (human warrior), her mabari, Leliana, Alistair and Wynne were a strange but very tight little "family", and that was no small part of what saw them through the Blight and the civil war. So I definitely see Leliana as having something of a fond "little brother" view of Alistair.
As Leliana's early dialog implies, they were probably happier during that otherwise horrible time than afterwards, with the Warden dead, Alistair on a throne he didn't really want, Leliana back on a path she didn't want either but felt obliged to walk due to her love for Justinia, and Wynne later dying, too.

Wynne dies in Asunder, so that's sadly a given ... but from what I heard, she died willingly and in a way that made sense for her. RIP, dear old lady. She was definitely that fondly scolding surrogate mom to the three feisty, troubled kids. I wish she could've met Cole as he is now, they would get along beautifully.
Alistair gets the throne because I have more faith in a good person's ability to learn some political acumen than in a near-stranger who is an inveterate politician's ability to be a good person. It does feel rough, and the issue of succession could destabilize the country again since Grey Wardens are essentially sterile, but my Warden takes the fall to end the Blight, so her "duty above all" view applies to herself, too.

I found it very weird when she used that wonderful boy to describe Alistair. She and Alistair couldn't be very far apart when it comes to age. Or maybe she viewed him as a little brother and that's why she responded so affectionately.
I've always pictured her to be 24 during Origins and 35 in Inquisition. Seems to fit her.
Wasn't it confirmed that Leliana was in her late twenties in Origins? But yeah, her acknowledgement of Alistair in Inquisition is a bit weak. There's definitely some missed opportunity when it comes to the interaction between iconic characters from Origins.
Anyway. I don't think I've been here since sometime in 2014, so Happy New Year everybody! Hope 2015 will be awesome as far as Dragon Age goes
I've certainly started the year off with some writing - mostly DA fanfiction. Because why not?
Even a Leliana one-shot, because, of course...
