It's always been incredibly endearing how worked up and flustered she gets during the romance dialogue. This professional wordsmith and silver-tongue, stumbling over her words like an 'ill-educated peasant girl.' It does things to my feels.

Especially when you consider it's probably because, while she's adept at persuasion, seduction etc. in most things, acting on her affections with someone she actually cares for is still foreign to her. I don't imagine there was much work on her end in her relationship with Marjolaine, I mean.

Leliana's romance is great regardless what origin or gender you pick. The devs did a really good job balancing all that out.

Objectively, all DAO romances are really well-done and I never felt any of them was lacking in content. :)

It kind of bothered me how Alistair and Morrigan had the kiss in public option, with reactions from companions, while Leliana and Zevran didn't, though. Still don't understand why that is.

It's probably also only the second serious relationship she's been in. I always got the impression that she was with Marjolaine for years, and probably for the entire time she was a bard. Anyone else was probably just in the course of spycraft and such, and strictly business.

"I'm not embarassed! I'm just... flushed! Because... of the... heat!" :P

Yeah I think you're right. I know some people are convinced it was all just an act to seduce the Warden but that doesn't make sense to me, especially now that we know she's still deeply in love with them ten years later

I was never a fan of the way the romance gift system worked in dao. Da2 handled that better with small amounts of gifts and dedicated sequences to them. However I agree the romances were otherwise we'll done, even if they come in 2nd to da2's in my view.
As far as leliana is concerned gender of romance is equally done and I've never bought into the attempts to claim characters.

I think that theory is officially dead, tbh. 'bout time all the tinfoil hats over the years were put to rest.

The 'she was a Chantry spy all along!' tinfoil theory is officially dead now too.

Also makes me glad that all dem pessimists after DA2, talking about how Leliana probably broke up with the Warden or something, were all proven wrong as well. Aww yiss.

Ah yes, those tinfoil theories based on little things like Leliana wearing a Seeker Amulet when you first recruit her. I always figured that was just a little foreshadowing for plans they had for her in the future. :)

I admit, I was on the Chantry Spy bandwagon for like a week or two, until a little chat with a friend convinced me otherwise.

I didn't realize some thought her attitude with the Warden was an act of seduction, though. Never got that impression once. Doesn't sound like Leliana to me.

I always understood Leliana's talk of bards seducing their unsuspecting targets as her having some fun with the Warden in order to make them a bit nervous.

Yeah, the Chantry spy thing doesn't even make sense.  She was barely a part of the Chantry as most members in Lothering weren't accepting of her beliefs plus she was never a sister and not part of the hierarchy.  At that time, no one in the Chantry would have picked her as a spy.

Orlesian spy would have more weight at least.

The biggest flaw to the tinfoil is what exactly she was supposed to be spying on, a recent grey warden recruit? The Chantry would have no way of knowing a Blight was coming, and even when it started, many people underestimated it and some didn't even think it was a real one.

and she'll say that too if you ask her if she was sent to spy on you. something along the lines of what noble would bother spying on you. because the warden really ain't nobody yet until they ya know kill the Archdemon. Even a Cousland background is not enough to warrant a spy. people might know of your family but not you specifically.

That was part of the reason it wasn't a sound theory. The whole situation never warranted the involvement of a spy.

I mean, Leliana may very well have had ties with spies back in those days, but she had no reason to be or act like one herself. And I think the fact that you can question her on that (and what she tells you in response) closes the deal.

Loghain might have sent a spy but I doubt he'd pick an Orlesian. Plus, you meet Leliana shortly after Ostagar which is barely time for Loghain to hire a spy (and Loghain thinks all the GWs are dead at that point).

It would make more sense to suspect Zevran as a Loghain spy.

If the Warden shows up in a future DLC, I wonder what would happen if My Fem!Inqusitor flirted with him in front of Leliana ....

Depends on whether she is hardened or not.

Ah so good to have a PC, got a mod that adds the public option for Leliana, whenever and wherever you want and it adds reactions to it from your other companions. Alistair says "Awww how sweet."
Morrigan of course is the "I'm going to heave" reaction

and Oghren is trying to get a good angle on the action.

has anyone ever not kissed her when she confesses her feels to your Warden?

it always felt like the best way to let her know not to fret because "I'm here for you" too. Plus, for my canon Warden at least, she'd been staring at her lips on occasion at camp long enough.

My Warden didn't... She's a bit shy when it comes to romance. Leliana had to make all the moves, lol.

My Warden definitely did, but it wasn't a slow kiss like the ingame animation shows. I like to think while she was getting flustered over the Warden not communicating that they liked her first "Oh chivalry is so dead!" part or specifically "Oh how very awkward!" is when my Warden goes in for a surprise kiss which gives off all the flutters!

I'm a horrible hopeless romantic :(

there is nothing horrible about that Gear. i picture it as being similiar to getting those roof kisses with Sera. Everyone else's is all sweet and sensuous and Sera's is like "gimme dem lips!"

The other reason the spy theory never held a lot of water is because she leaves if she doesn't like you. What kind of spy tells the person they're spying on that they're a horrible person, and buggers off? Made no sense.

My Warden did. She's usually slow with this kinda stuff, Leliana kind of made all the first moves while she didn't really know what to do, but I've always seen that as a 'F*ck it.' moment of sudden bravery followed by 'ohgodshouldIhavedonethatf*ck' followed by 'Aww yeah that worked.'

I hope so, I like the surprise approach to that moment since afterwards she says "Well that settles it then." Like the kiss sealed the start of a relationship in a sense. Otherwise a way of saying Actions speak louder then words.
Just in my opinion it makes it seem like the Warden is truly closer to Leliana. Yeah you can say you have feelings for her, to her. But those are just words and it doesn't seem finite. What stops the warden to walk over to Zevran or Morrigan and disregard what they said. A kiss seems more serious... just the type of person I am. But I guess if a person's warden is just not that type of person they could kiss Leliana and then skip over to someone else and kiss that LI also.

Just depends on the warden on what type of person they are.
