Man, anyone see this funny glitch if you import a game where you romanced Leliana and killed her? She constantly switches from "The Warden was a douchebag" to "I love the Warden so much" it's hilarious. Guess they didn't account for that.

All I want to know is what happened to my "softened" Leliana my Warden romanced in DA:O? It's like she got hardened again. When i heard she was in the game, I was like "cool" but I'm not as keen on this recent Leliana. I was all pumped to support her for Divine so my Warden is all hooked up but nah.

Apparently time hasn't been kind to her. Looks like she gets hardened anyway. Who knows what she did while serving Justinia.

Her work as Left Hand for Justinia kind of overwrote whatever change your Warden might have set in her. Recent events also helped. That conversation where she talks about Justinia's death, and the Warden, and how she 'Sacrificed so much to do the Maker's work...' only to feel like it was all for nothing in the end, really nailed home the changes she's gone through between and during the games, for me.
Both Justinia and the Warden seemed to know that she's in a bad place, given the Warden's letter and Justinia's posthumous one. It's actually really bloody sad when you think about it. The two people who might have been able to and would want to help her (despite Justinia being the one to set all of this into motion for her in the first place) aren't around to do so anymore. Justinia's dead. A living Warden has been gone for years.
Someone needs to give Leliana a hug.

When I played DA:O my plan was to have a foursome with her, Zevran & Isabela but I wasn't expecting to fall for this sexy redhead. My male warden found himself head over heels for her & was willing to do anything to stay by her side. I'm sad that her character arc is most likely coming to a close but with the way bioware does things I rather headcanon her and my warden traveling thedas for the rest of their lives.

Justinia taught her to fight for what's in her heart. She taught her to believe in something after the Grand Game spurned her and left her with nothing. Maybe her version of the chantry the one where everyone is allowed in, mistakes forgiven, redemption encouraged, people no matter mage or elf are free and inspired to do good, service to charity is idealistic, but man I'm glad Justinia tried to light that fire again in her final message. I think she'd always have regrets if she didn't fight for her beliefs and could never be happy. I like that about Inquisition leliana. She wasn't just Maker this, maker that, she was a woman of benevolent action.

The inquisitor was never really close enough to her for it to be appropriate to hug her. When she about Justinia after returning from the fade I wanted nothing more than to hug her. My warden will hold her close and let her mourn when he returns.....*sigh*Leli needs all the hugs. Seriously. that should have been an option in the game. if I have a petty gripe, that's it. I mean...we can hug Varric during his time of grieving. All my Piscean emotions was screaming like "for the love of gawd woman take this hug!"

I reckon my Warden is probably gonna want to give my Inquisitor a hug doe, for doing what she asked of her in that letter.
My Warden and Inquisitor are both Dalish, but my Inquisitor is significantly younger than my Warden probably is now, so I've always headcanoned the HoF was, like, her childhood hero growing up. As soon as she read that letter, helping Leliana out of a rough spot wherever possible was a priority. :S

Maybe Morrigan/Leliana has pysic powers or something? Nah it seems like a buf, or oversight..but your right seeing dialouge in game is whats importantIt's weird. If I talk to Leliana first when I go and talk to Morrigan she does the whole "So you spared the grey wardens from destroy goodwill...Still should a true archdemon arise...or so they would have you believe" But then just goes into her normal tree of Tell me more about you/What are you working on?/Goodbye. Maybe words travels fast down to the garden that Leliana knows where the HOF is so Morrigan doesn't have to ask if you saw her? Oh well. I've seen the dialogues in game so it's good enough for me
Yes, you must do it for silence, and to see how solas' mural changes.I might have to try some science with the Wicked Eyes/Adamant quest order later. I'll see what I get.
>implying the other two options are complete and utter failures

Eww male warden/lelianaI love the fact that this is a safe haven for Leliana fans alike. Now that I finally caught up with the everything in here I can post. Our nightingale is my favorite DA character as well. So mjuch about her is so relatable to me. The journey of finding who you really are as a person & being true to yourself is a long & difficult journey and that is something I can really relate to. I also love how she is willing to do what is necessary to get the job done even if what needs to be done is rather questionable.

I disagree with that part about the Inquisitor never being close enough to her. the change in their interaction is reflected in the way she greets you. A bond of some sort DOES form. how deep it runs is debatable but it def isn't the same as it was in Haven...unless you just never talk to her. Hell she even apologizes for that emotional outburst(which she didn't have to do) from the first convo you have with her.

She does reveal some rather personal matters and lets herself be influenced to a degree (the softened/hardened development), but despite that I too never truly felt close to her, sadly.
Makes sense I suppose, I remember Patrick Weekes actually drew parallels between Leliana and Corypheus a while ago, both of them being believers who have lost faith in their god and gone over the deep end, calling Corypheus her 'dark mirror' of a sort.
This is one reason why I think it's a crying shame that Bioware did not in fact emphasize the "faith" theme more deeply and strongly. Writers should believe in their themes as much as in their characters, or something will always be lacking in the final product, and I think Inquisition's too-short, too-shallow main plot shows definite signs of that. I'd have loved to see the faith-theme explored more with contrasting characters like Lucius and Cassandra, Corypheus and Leliana, Mother Giselle and Chancellor Roderick, and so on.

It's likely because BioWare insists on the notion that Leliana's only true friend is the Warden and nobody else could match that, thus ensuring she remains as professional as she can be throughout Inquisition. Could also explain why there isn't a single flirt option with her of all the companions and advisors in the game.
Not something I agree with, naturally, but it does appear to be the case.

Pretty much sums up what I was trying to say. Even a platonic relationship with the warden was more close than what the inquisitor has with her. They're allies, good friends but comparing that to what she had with the warden isn't even close sadly.I don't think the Inquisitor and Leliana ever really become friends. They have a work relationship, but not a personal one.

Well, who the Inquisitor is, and who Leliana is now, might have something to do with it as well. I reckon she's pretty closed off to everyone, not just the Inquisitor. The Inquisitor can discuss some fairly personal stuff with her, but most of the time it's at the Inquisitor's urging, because she sees it as a 'moment of weakness' otherwise. She doesn't go out of her way to discuss things close to her heart with the Inquisitor like she could the Warden, because, well, I reckon she doesn't want to. The position she's in currently isn't much of a place to build up trusting friendships like she could with the Warden. I'd say Josephine is her only real friend in the Inquisition, that seems to be half the reason she recruited her in the first place, but even she says Leliana is a bit closed off around even her now.
By the end of the game, though, I would say the Inquisitor has become a close confidant of a sort, perhaps. Especially on the unhardened path, where she might open up a bit more once again. And hell, she still sacrifices herself for them in the Alexius timeline.
It's the same thing with Varric, really. He sees the Inquisitor far too much as the Herald of Andraste to become BFFs like he was with Hawke. I actually quite like it how our PC's relationships with characters differ. My Warden was her lover and most trusted friend, my Inquisitor was her boss and perhaps a bit of a counsellor.

Possible reason for Leliana being more distant now: she's afraid of getting close to people now. She lost the last people she was closest to.
Marjolaine: Betrayed by her.
Dorothea: Dead.
The Warden: Dead or gone on a mission to find a cure (which they might not succeed in.)
The Maker: she feels abandoned by him.
It could be these losses have hurt too much and now she's afraid of getting too close to someone again, for either fear of betrayal or fear of loss. Leli's been burned badly.

That's also another way of looking at it.
I do think that it makes the characters feel more 'organic' in nature, as if they have their own personal lives outside of the visible events of the story. Leliana in particular is especially good at conveying this.
When it comes to being besties with the Inquisitor, I would say only Sera and Iron Bull are able to really pull it off. Varric is a close second, but he's too busy thinking about Hawke to show it.

It was probably intentional in Leliana's case, but that's how I felt about most companions in the game (the only exceptions were Cassandra and my LI Josephine). I think the friendship arcs were a bit more fulfilling in DA:O.

That depends on each Inquisitor's personality and how one defines "besties". Me, I see nothing in either of those two that I'd really be able to like or bond with. Meanwhile, Cassandra and Cole make me happier than any Bioware character before them ... and since I'm one of the people who prefer Cole's spirit path, I'm sure my impression of "besties" would draw a lot of WTFs from other players, too. ![]()
Varric is interesting because he tries to be a friend while struggling with his awe of the Inquisitor as a leader and religious figure. I appreciate his efforts all the more because of that, since I can't imagine it's always easy to pal around with the person you believe was miraculously chosen to save the world.
Though what this game, like pretty much all Bioware games, needs to make all friendship paths better is reciprocity. We take care of the companions' woes, and they take care of each other, but hardly anyone ever even asks how the Inquisitor is doing. That remains a huge weakness in these games.

Of course it depends on the Inquisitor's personality. What I meant is, as a general rule, those are relatively easy to land friendships with compared to the rest of the team; it shows on them better than the others.
I thought Dorian was the one my Inquisitor built up the best friendship with, actually. He was pretty much the Morrigan of DAI for me, in that regard.
"Tevinter lacks the presence of my best and only friend. It'll hold."
Dorian. Yup. Absolutely right. Completely forgot about him.
He outright tells you he'd like to be your friend.
