The Calling + female Wardens is the stupidest most disgusting thing. "lol hai darkspawn want some moar broodmothers? MERRY WINTERSEND"

That is one area of the lore I wish Bioware had given a little more thought to. You're right that it doesn't make sense for female Wardens to go on the Calling, because of the whole Broodmother risk. In retrospect I wish Broodmotherdom was something limited only to non-Wardens, with the blood magic involved in becoming a Warden or the infertility or what have you, being the explanation for why female Wardens are immune. The Calling would then make sense for both genders.

My toon was male though, so the deal with broodmothers never really affected my head canon for him. Having said that...I did imagine Sigrun going on her Calling at the same time, along with the other surviving Wardens from the Awakening DLC.

Is Leliana a slatern?

Only if you're trolling or into ****-shaming.

I think the OP of that thread was probably more of the first option, but either way he was best ignored.

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere that Wardens can't be turned into broodmothers because they already have the Blight.

Either Weekes or Gaider tweeted that the writing team actually hadn't thought through the implications of female Wardens on the Calling. The Joining basically turns a Warden into a high-functioning, not-mind-controlled ghoul, and the Calling is when the "high-functioning" part of that ends...and female ghouls get turned into broodmothers.

I'm not sure they even know. There's this post from 2010 from David Gaider herehttp://forum.bioware...-eat/?p=3146039

what do female wardens become if they are ghouls?

Let's just say the lack of female Warden fertility is probably a good thing in this particular case.

Then in 2012 there was this interview http://swooping-is-b...om/1286233.html

TUK: Do Grey Wardens still do the Calling, now that they know about Broodmothers? That was a really terrifying revelation in the first game "Oh my god, any women who are down here in the Deep Roads get taken off to spawn horrible monsters!"

DG: They always knew about Broodmothers, but they didn't know where Broodmothers came from. Knowing that...wow, I hadn't really considered whether they'd stop doing the Calling. I think if anything it makes it more problematic for female Wardens to do the Calling. That may be something we could incorporate into the future. It'd be an interesting question. Let's say a female Grey Warden starts to hear her Calling and says "Well, my time has come" and the rest of the Wardens say no, you can't go. You're a woman. You don't deserve to take part in what has been long, for many centuries, held as an honorable tradition, as a way for the Grey Wardens to go out in a way where they retain...I don't know if you read The Calling, the novel. The reason they do the Calling is because there's a tipping point at which the corruption in them starts to affect them physically, so rather than become some kind of ghoul they want to die while they still have their humanity, doing what they've spent the majority of their life dedicated to, killing darkspawn, one last hurrah. To go to a woman and say "No, you can't have this honorable ending because of what might happen to you." I think that would be an interesting story. I think in the end it might be up to the individual Warden. I could definitely see a female Warden who would rather kill herself than allow for the possibility that she could be transformed into a Broodmother.

I'd imagine they'd die fighting/kill themselves before anything could happen

That was probably Gaider, Weekes didn't join the DA team until Inquisition after all  ;)

Okay, that really ticks me off. Men get to be the stoic sacrificing heroes, women get to be ignored unless the writers need massive body horror with implied rape thrown in for extra kicks and giggles. Thanks, Bioware. I hope they wouldn't "forget" women so easily these days anymore.

Yeah, the second quote is exactly the one I was thinking of. Thanks.

Never mind implied. Hespith's 'poem' pretty much spells it out.

'We hated as she is violated'. Leaves little to the imagination. *shudder*

Pretty damn much.

That brings up the question - do Darkspawn even possess those parts...?

No. Don't answer. I think I just brought myself a week's worth of nightmares.

Yeah.

This is why I hope my Warden cures herself and washes her hands of the whole thing.

That's why I found the whole thing to be weird

Darkspawn are pretty much self aware zombies of rotting flesh, pretty sure those parts would've fallen off

Maybe "violated" means something else, and we're jumping to conclusions...?

What else can you classify as violating a woman?

Yeah. This is probably not a discussion anyone wants, so let me know if I should drop it.

'Violation' leaves things open to interpretation.

What the Red Templars do to their captives, for instance, I would consider a 'violation' whether they were male or female.

True that. There is another stanza of the poem that mentions spewing in her mouth. That more than qualifies. The ick factor of the Darkspawn is through the roof.

Didn't they also force feed them flesh or darkspawn flesh too?

Yeah I think the violation probably is referring to the force feeding possibly.

Leliana seems to re-shape herself to fit the role she's currently playing. So how do you think she'll change as Divine?

She won't she will just put on another mask. I belive leliana due to her lifestyle, and traumas early in her life may have dissociative identity disorder.

Badly, I suspect. I've said it many times, being Divine is the last thing she needs. >.>

That's kind of beside the point. Whether or not broodmotherification actually involves a sexual act by a darkspawn - I'm inclined to think it doesn't - it has a woman being 'violated' until she turns into a giant baby factory. That's either rape or a rape metaphor.

Kinda off topic but I've gotten more Leliana doodles done (and other dragon age pieces) (With my Warden.)

My main hope is that, once "softened", she does not backflip again. She needs a source of stability, preferably internal this time. Maybe her rediscovered faith can do that, but I'm not convinced. Still, I think she's my choice for Divine even though I think her ending is over the top. (In no small part, I admit, because I want Cassandra to stay with the Inquisition.)

I never took Cullen for the willing sacrifice type. I always figured there was something off about the Inquisition's inner circle.
