Even in a Golden Age, there will always be people in desperate need of a punch to the face. :S

Yeah, but Exalted March. That's practically World War in Thedas. :D

It's a statesman/stateswoman job at the end of the day. I like Divine Cass, but personally..I think there's a reason why Varric calls her Seeker. This is who she really is.

Don't think that's what she'd be doing all the time, tbh. Her image in the epilogue slide has her decked out in full plate armour brandishing a sword.

Personally, I think the idea of a Warrior-Divine is awesome. If she ever declares an Exalted March, she'll be on horseback leading it. Aww yiss.

I did get the idea awhile back that the Inquisition could help out to push back a hypothical qunari invasion.

Cassandra sending her Qunari Inquisitor in an exalted march to drive the heretics back would be deliciously ironic for me :D.

i guess it's possible she might have been initially written up with a female Warden in mind, seeing as a common consensus is that she's a bisexual with slightly more inclination towards women but I don't think it really matters either way. They're basically the same romance at the end of the day, and the things that would seem out of place for one gender (like the hair conversation) have a different scene for the other gender.

The only thing that felt weird to me personally (and this might get some controversy, just something that didn't sit right with me on a personal level) is that the male Warden romance kind of made me feel like I was helping her get over a bad F/F relationship with the power of the D. I know she's bisexual, but in this context it put a bit of a weird taste in my mouth and I prefer this sort of plot if the Warden is also a woman.

Amd all the important figures in her life had been women up until that point, the female Warden romance just meshed with her story a little better from my perspective, IMO.

just my two cents, don't mean anything to the male Warden/Leliana fans out there.

I have no time for the constant attempts to plant flags for their orientation in terms of bi-sexual characters inclinations. Personally find it biased nonsense based on flimsy evidence.

As for your bad taste experience of romancing Leliana as a male, that strikes me as odd. Do you feel the same way helping Issy over her bad marriage to a man as a female Hawke? I honestly don't see the important figures in her life being women as having any bearing, in fact adding a male figure via the warden adds some balance if anything rather than the opposite.

I doubt anything interesting will happen. It's like the end of ME3. They let players alter the world so much that it's impossible to do justice to a Southern Thedas setting any longer. Not in any detail. Just passing references and cameos at best.

This is why I just focus on what it'd be like for the day to day life of one of these divines. In which case, I think it'd suck for Cassandra. It might be  good choice, but it's one based on duty. Not on best personality or what she necessarily wants.

Yeah, that sort of 'power of the d part' was really awkward. I remember my friend saying that was why he never romanced Leliana, because 'it made him feel rapey' (his words not mine). I can't headcannon for **** though, and just go with the writers stuff. Maybe that's why I couldn't really get the male romance bit in the game. Oh well, I just cant see Leliana with a dude (unless it is one of the few great written fanfictions that make it belivable). But hay, whatever greys peoples' warden.

tis all good~

No need to get defensive, I'm not arguing about a preference one way or the other. It's just a possibility

No, for Isabela it was a loveless forced marriage that she didn't do any 'getting over' because she doesn't care about it anymore, it's just a tiny tidbit of personal history, for Leliana it was someone she loved that hurt her dearly that she still thinks about to this day, and helping her through that while romancing her with a dude...I don't really have a word for it, it just didn't sit quite right with me.

I'm really not interested in starting a long argument with this, it's just how I feel.

I think it depends on the dude. just being male doesn't mean anything.

I have good experiences both from a male elf from the Circle and a female City elf. I find "beats" in each of their stories that give them a reason to bond with Leliana over. With the mage, it's more Chantry based themes. With the CE, it's more rogueish adventure.

Besides that, to arbritrarily cut myself off just sucks from own perspective as a player. I don't give a **** about Morrigan or Zevran. If you actually like Leliana, and can romance her, why not do it.

The only thing that makes me think Leliana has a slight preference for women is that she makes the first move with a woman. Gotta wonder about her thought process before making that move...

Leliana: *Mmh. Handsome men around, and she does not flirt with them. She gave me a silver pendant of Andraste. She likes my stories. Maybe... But she's Ferelden. I have to be careful. Can't come on too strong. Be subtle.* Did I ever tell you I really like the way you wear your hair? *Maybe that was too subtle...*

Yeah, but the male has the funny line about forbidden fruit. :D

Or is that female too?

That's a female option too.

She sounds less offended about the question with a female Warden than she does with a male one, as well. She just sounds mildly bemused, actually.

Or is that female too?

They both have it, but the reply is different. The male gets an extra bit :It's not technically forbidden, but it's not freely given either. Not everyone gets a bite.

For females it jumps straight to 'I can't believe I'm having this conversation.'

For males it triggers the romance, for females it doesn't. Or at least that's how it's supposed to work. Leliana's romance is notoriously glitchy.

Ah well. If she's Bi, I figured she likes both equally.

I like the female CE more myself, but I never thought the mage dropped in quality. Leliana is cool either way.

I don't get why some do not want to make Leliana the Divine just because she romanced the Warden.

I'm not sure about which Divine is best, and I think you could find very valid arguments for one or another. And speaking of what's best for the Nightingale, I think she can be potentially very happy or very unhappy being a Divine, and a romanced Warden could have one view or another:

Leliana had plenty of anguish caused by her work. Even steeled Leli could have much distress from the kind of choices she should make, because even steeled Leli doesn't want innocents to suffer. She seems quite tired of having such big responsabilities. She is a workaholic and she seems to have almost no personal life. She already had a big role in saving the world twice and she deserves some rest and have her own life.

On the other hand, she is very committed to the cause of the Chantry, it's very important for her. Though she shares some views of Cassandra, and she can appreciate the political skills of Madame de Fer, Leliana thinks they are too tied to the past and traditions that should be changed. In Leliana's heart burns an unquenchable fire, so she will answer to this call (a part of her needs to) and make the revolution the Chantry needs. And there is a part of her, even in enlightened Leli's soul, that truly loves complicated political intrigues and the Divine's games are much bigger than the Orlesian Game.

I've never actually done Leliana's romance with a male Warden myself. Just watched it on YouTube to see if there are any differences.

In fact, I've barely even played a male Warden. I can't drift from my canon female Dalish for too long, every other Warden feels like an imposter to me. :S

The male Warden version was missing two of my favourite scenes in the female Warden version, from what I observed. (Hair conversation, and the "And I...love you. It's so wonderful to say that to someone again.") I guess it's compensated for with more party banter, but eh, as I said. I only play one thing, never done it. *shrugs*

Well, it's always better to play something. More organic experience and whatnot.. you start slowly building up attachments and emotions this way..

If that makes sense.

That's the thing though, I just can't get attached to any Warden that's not mine. I have about four incomplete saves sitting around that didn't even get past the first treaty quest.

I'm so weird about it that even watching YouTube videos feels strange. :S

In my opinion Leli is interested more in the kind of person you are, than in if you are a man or a woman. Leliana likes sex, and she is aware when she feels a physical attraction for someone, male or female, but she thinks love is a much more important thing. If we compare her to Isabela it seems clear to me that for Leli love can be expressed in a sexual way, while for Isabela a good sexual relationship can become a love relationship.

The first Warden I played was male I think. A Cousland (I always play human first). Then I played female Cousland. Then male CE. Then female CE. Then... you get the idea. I played every origin at least twice, male and female.

I think I played the male CE about three times, and the female CE... I can't remember, but I had a lot of versions of her (all played to the end). Rogue, warrior, sweet, snarky, brunette, blonde, red head, different hair styles... So many runs.

My 'canon' Warden is a blonde, green-eyed City Elf with the ponytail and bangs style (the one Leliana sports in her DLC, incidentally). She's best friends/sisters with Morrigan and lovers with Leliana, so I have a complete set! Blonde, brunette, red head! (stop judging me this instant!)

If Leliana becomes Divine then... She's the lover of a Blight tainted Elf and the honorary aunt of a child who was born from an apostate and the king of Ferelden through a forbidden magic ritual to house the soul of an Old God...

Leliana is a weirdness magnet.

Dayum. You're more flexible than I am.

My save folder is just composed of 4-5 instances of the exact same female DE romancing Leliana done to completion multiple times, a few throwaways I made for Morrigan, Alistair and Zevran's romance achievements, (usually cheated to get ahead) a few failed attempts at things like male Amells or Couslands, and a male Brosca I actually managed to get to Orzammar before giving up. That's about as far as I got. Only completed the game with the same character multiple times, it seems to be all I can do.

Strangely, I have no such problem with DA2 or DA:I. Guess I'm just not anywhere near as attached to my canon Hawke and Inquisitor as I am my Warden.

My first playthrough was a Cousland, but my PS3 fried.. so I started over on Xbox. Ended up making many more characters. I still can connect.. it's just kind of like changing the actor in a play. Or having the ground shift a little. All of the good rhythm in the story is still there.

I've gone back to the Cousland for my current DAI worldstate though.

Im a lot less flexible with this game. I don't think it's built as well for options like DAO was.

It took me a while to find a Warden I really clicked with. My order of preference for the Origins goes like this: City Elf, Human Noble, Dwarf Commoner, Dwarf Noble, Mage (either race) and Dalish Elf.

For romances I like Leliana with everyone :D.

Wasn't DAI intended for human only at first? DAO intended the different backgrounds from the start, hence the name. That would certainly explain the discrepencies observed in DAI.

I'd say Dalish Elf, City Elf, and Dwarf Commoner are probably my favourite origins. The first one's the only one I've played to completion but I have played the intros for each origin.

I did like my Brosca. Named him Bjorn, gave him an awesome stache and a snarky personality. He just wasn't 'the Warden' to me, tbh.

Yeah, it kinda showed. I don't think the discrepancies with the other three races are quite as bad as they're talked up to be, but my Adaar...I liked her, but she did feel a bit tacked on. Every Warden felt like a natural fit, (even if I could only get into one) but non-human Inquisitors didn't feel quite as well accommodated for. Hopefully DA4 is made with races from the get-go.

Though, my Lavellan clicked better for me. Maybe because she had what is probably the most plot-relevant romance, I guess.

I disagree. I have done both a female and male romance with her and I enjoyed both equally.
