I just tried the 'Hushed Whispers' quest a different way...that is i had the mages as the prisoners rather than allies to see what reaction Leliana would give...seeing that as i made them allies in another playthrough Leliana didn't give a good reaction.
Now in this playthrough, she still didn't give a good reaction, saying along the lines they are locked up just as they have alwys been...even though i reassured her that the Inquisition would keep them safe.
Also Cassandra said before i had made my decision that they should be conscripted... so i made them that and still she wasn't exactly happy with that.
It seems you can never please them, no matter what decisions you make.
Don't like the prejudicial 'guide her back to the light' line of the letter as it is but it would have annoyed me immensely if it was a forced softening device. Hardened Leliana is the person my Warden is in love with.
Meanwhile, it was the most beautifully in-character thing for my Warden BioWare could have possibly done, as she always admired her faith immensely, and her well-being with that faith potentially broken would have been of huge concern to her. Almost made me misty eyed. Wouldn't change that bit for anything.
She's more like the Huntress that way.
Batman was always trying to keep her from going too far and killing.
But that's just a nitpick.
She would join the Birds of Prey in DC Universe. But in the Marvel Universe I think she would be an excellent SHIELD Agent.
So you didn't like her when you met her or talked in the majority of DAO?
I liked her sure but it was only she shed her false skin and unburdened herself about who and what she was, that she really felt like a kindred spirit for my warden.
And here we go with the 'false skins' and 'true selves' again. ![]()

I never saw it that way. She was having a crisis of faith. I didn't want to interfere too much. I just wanted her to go back to instinct and her conscience. The fact that she was questioning herself was a sign of a good person. "Evil doesn't worry about being good."
Problem solved.
Steering her in another direction felt a bit like when a friend gets out of rehab, sees the warning signs of slipping...and you just tell them to relax and pass a drink. Eventually they lose themselves to it again.
The human skin Leli wears is false. It's known she's all blue inside because her true self is an Asari, right? ![]()
Just joking, but while I understand we are all attached to our more beloved playthrough and therefore that one is the truth for us, I wouldn't say a character in this kind of interactive stories is truer one way or another.

I think it's truer the more their decisions are based on their own selves.. Leliana won't come to this point in DAO unless we nudge her there.
That said, the same reasoning is applied to DAI.. She's hardened on her own. This is the truth of where she's at that point..
"Evil doesn't worry about being good."
My favourite line the Warden could ever say, tbh. Right up there with "I'm an elf. But more than that, I'm a person."
...coincidentally (or not) both of them are said to Leliana. Huh.

That's the way I feel it. Then came Divine Justinia, who was very important in her rehab, and put her to work as a brewer. When did Justinia think she had failed Leliana? From the very first moment she put her in the Left Hand role? Or did she realise what she did later? It wasn't very difficult to understand what it was going to happen.

Not a fan of that line myself. I saw it as her hiding from herself after a bad experience and needing reassurance that, there was nothing wrong with that life and nothing wrong with her for enjoying that life.
Your interpretation isn't mine but that's fine. It's a great thing about the hardening-softening mechanic, giving people the scope for these kind of different interpretations.
For some reason I started thinking about Leliana in Templar Armour last night...
- stop judging me!
-
... and now I can't stop thinking about an AU in which Leliana joined the Templars. Like, instead of her becoming a Chantry Sister post-Marjolaine, or instead of her becoming a sneaky Divine-agent post-Origins.

I have seen some great drawings of an AU modern secret agent Leli. There is awesome fan art of a Mass Effect version of many Dragon Age characters, including Leliana. I mentioned a superhero Leli Nightingale in DC's Birds of Prey or Leliana: Agent of SHIELD in Marvel Universe in this same thread. Templar Leli? Why not? My only objection for that AU is they couldn't have Cass and Leli as Right and Left Hand and I think they are both awesome.

I spent the longest time thinking Leliana had joined the Seekers after DA2.
Then Gaider was all "She isn't a Seeker, why would you think she was?" and I was all "WELL I DUNNO."
Guess that armour was placeholder.
She looked good in it though.

How the... Is this another one of BW's famous cut content? This looks awesome. ![]()

No, someone just model-swapped Isabela with Leliana by the looks of it. :S

Could always have it so that Cassandra got injured during Seeker training which barred from her from becoming such a great warrior and she became some sort of spy who then saved the Divine from that conspiracy (which made her Right Hand) in a Leliana-way?

Yeah that was odd.
She looked really good in it. Imagine she'd look even better in Templar armour though >.>

And much better in nothing but a smile.

Her appearance in the Faith DLC is enough to make me lose my sh*t but imagine what if she really met Hawke again. I recall BW's DAII cut content includes a scene where Hawke meets up with Cassandra. I thought maybe they can squeeze Leliana in it. Those two reminded me of something like "Good cop bad cop" thing, especially how they interrogated the Herald after the Conclave was blown to bits.
Yeah that was odd.

I dunno, for some reason Templar armour, despite all its revisions, has never found a happy medium where I actually like the look of it. Maybe long skirts on armour just doesn't do anything for me.
Leliana would wear it well though, no doubt. She'd probably make this look good. :S

If only that was a practical way to go into battle... ![]()
Honestly, I think that it comes down to, is that of you completely take away either aspect, then she is no longer Leliana. I have. prefernce for hardned leliana, no question, but after looking into it..neither side of the debate is wrong, or right. Because if we take away her 'goodness' she ceases to be leliana, and if i take away her dark side, she also ceases to be leliana. And here we go with the 'false skins' and 'true selves' again.
fair enoughI have to disagree.
I mean, I was just thinking how radically different she can be across playthroughs. She can veer from giving me the warm fuzzies to caving in my chest and breaking my heart. lol. Emotionally, at least, they feel different.
I was worried how they'd handle Cass eventually. I feel kind of protective of both of them.. I like them the way I met them. Bioware loves to break characters, but I'll scramble to keep them in shape.
Yeah the mevhanics of how they did it are a bit weird..so easy to miss.In my book this is a very valid way of interpret her story. A woman with ideals and morality but able to do nasty things to fight for her cause. But, for me, her story feels better as a woman who has a dark side and nevertheless is able to overcome it. It's the mechanics they used this time I don't agree, not the stories.

Spoiler
Ahahaha oh yes, definitely.
This armour btw, which is hands-down the best Templar armor in the series (imo). I really need to learn Photoshop.

Yes please.

A smile or her ''o'' face. Or just biting her lip... *fans self*
