Comparing Leliana's appearance in Origins and Inquisition, I feel the designers went for a mix between her Origins/DA2 appearance and her face in the CGI trailer (putting a bigger emphasis on the latter).

If you look closely at her CGI model and Inquisition one, you'll notice she more or less looks the same, except in Inquisition she looks like she's lost quite a bit of weight. (+ the freckles :3)

Hmm...not sure I really see too much similarity between Alleykatze Leliana and DA:I Leliana.

Spoiler

The...lips and the jaw are about the same shape, I suppose. Nose is way different though.

Eyebrows are really different too.

CGI Leliana's eyebrows have always made me think brown is probably her natural hair colour. They look brownish.

Alleykatze also has that Jell-O dye thing going on, while Leliana is a natural red head.

In any case Alleykatze was only used for the Sacred Ashes trailer, and the character in the game wasn't based on her. The trailer used different face models than the in-game characters. Both Leliana & Morrigan look different in the game than their portrayals in the Sacred Ashes trailer. In fact I'm not even sure if the in-game characters used face models at all.

Not that Alleykatze isn't beautiful..but she isn't Leliana. Not unless you used one of the DA:O mods that changed Leliana's in-game appearance to look like her.

Regarding the "love is simple..." thing: yeah I found it a little off at first. But in context I guess it made sense. She's just lost her mentor/saviour/mother figure, and the Inquisitor does ask in a pretty cringeworthy way. :s I'd assume that such rumours about her and Justinia were common, too, given those gossipy Orlesians! What I think she was really doing was railing against the idea that romantic love is seen as the be-all and end-all, but maybe that was just my interpretation.

I think Leliana and Morrigan are both beautiful in this game. Time has taken its toll on Leliana more, but she's still got it. I've always seem Leliana as a few years older than the Warden, perhaps even a decade, so that would be part of it. I assume Morrigan to have been around 19-20 in Origins, same as my Warden, whereas Leliana I saw as late 20s. PLEASE don't anyone kill me - I know what the toolsets say, but it's open to interpretation. ;) Just makes sense to me given Leliana's pre-Origins past.

Am I the only one who thinks the "hardened" Leliana was a bit too ruthless? Yeah I get it, she can be hard and do what she needs to do for the greater good. But she's always had two sides to the coin - sweet and caring devout believer versus hard, calculating bard. Her post-Valence speech when hardened was a bit scary though. :-/

Yeah, Alleykatze is...a very attractive woman (those tattoos tho unph) but I can only really see Leliana as a ginger, tbh.

I do use mods for a lot of the characters in DA:O (yeah yeah) because I find most of the game's character models are a bit too...generic for me, but I've always preferred it when they stay close enough to the vanilla they're still undeniably the same person. Thus, with this mod + a few tweaks in the toolset, Leliana stays a good ol' ging as she should be, IMO.

Spoiler

I just wish there was a decent subtle freckle texture out there so I could slap it on in the toolset for dat DA:I Leliana. I actually think she looks more consistent now, other than that.

That's the age range I've always placed Leliana in as well, somewhere around 28. Fits her best, IMO.

I saw my Warden as more in the 23-24 range though.

Change of subject: while I understand why Leliana was not made a romance, I was a bit disappointed that there was no option to flirt with her like we could with Vivienne. How do you imagine she would have shot the Inquisitor down? I picture the following scenario:

PC: Spymaster, eh? As dangerous as you are beautiful.

Leliana (romanced, Warden alive): Not nearly as dangerous as my beloved. Did I mention he/she killed an Archdemon?

Leliana (romanced, Warden dead): While you are not nearly dangerous or beautiful enough to make me forget my love.

Leliana (not romanced): *eyeroll* Thank the Maker Josephine is here to handle the talking. If we depended on you for that we would be doomed.

I agree about Leliana being late 20s in DA:O. There is also dialogue with Wynne where it is said that Leliana is older than she looks. I'd guess she is somewhere between 26 and 28 in DA:O, putting her in her late 30s in DA:I.

The Warden's age I think varies depending on origin. Cousland is in his/her early 20s I think, but the City elf might be younger.

I've always considered the CE to be around 18 and the youngest of the origins while DN is the oldest.

I remember before DA:I came out, I was hoping there would be some flirt options with a romanced Leliana, and then the Warden would actually physically show up, vigorously make out with Leliana right in front of the Inquisitor, and Quizzy's face would be all:

In one respect the Inquisitor asking Leliana if she was Justinia's lover is unintentionally hilarious, considering Justinia is a shriveled old prune.

My inquisitor asked the question onnce, but she seemed so offended by the notion that I could never bring myself to choose it again.

Which is annoying because it leaves that dialogue option just hanging there forever.

Yeah, I think Tabris, Surana and Amell are probably canonically supposed to be the youngest, seeing as their origins all revolve around some 'coming of age event' (Arranged marriage now that the CE is of age, and the Harrowing.)

I think Aeducan could probably plausibly be the oldest, though I didn't see much of a problem with headcanoning my Mahariel as a young adult, about mid-20s. All the people who call you da'len are elders, they probably call everyone that.

It could also have been funny to have the Inquisitor be sore about it and say something catty about the Warden.

Inquisitor: *petulant* Well, don't let him/her distract you from your duties. We cannot afford such luxuries.

Leliana: *raises eyebrow* Even though you were attempting to distract me yourself?

Warden: Don't flatter yourself. You could never distract her as well as I can.

It might have made sense to have Leliana's replies also change depending on whether she was hardened or not. Hardened Leliana would give more of the strictly business, cold-shoulder shut down. The Inquisitor gets iced...hard.

Unhardened could decline in a more stereotypically Orlesian fashion. (playful & coy)

Maybe even slightly flirtatious, if there is no active romance or the Warden is dead.

I guess that's why there were no flirt options then. Too many variables to deal with.

That is brilliant. We need to get you on the writing team! :-D

Snook, yeah the Warden could easily be older. I just got the feeling Cousland was recently "of age" - old enough to be a warrior, but young enough to warrant the adorable coddling from their parents. Though mind you, would they be left in charge of the castle at that age... The Warden seems younger than Hawke to my mind, who was 24ish in 9:30 according to BioWare. Tis all open to interpretation unless confirmed by them though (and even if it is! :) ). It fits my headcanon better to have the Warden old enough to not be naive (hello pretty elf handmaiden Iona!) but also not exactly be a seasoned warrior. Makes the tragic Origin story even more so IMO.

For some reason I am now imagining the Inquisitor trying to compete with the Warden to see who can distract her the most. With the Inquisitor buying lots of shoes. And nugs. :/

I remember how unhardened Leliana deflected Zevran's flirting attempts. Could always just go with that again if there was a flirt attempt from the Inquisitor. :S

Zevran: "I mean no offense. I simply offer my services should you ever feel the need for... release."

Leliana: "That's very kind of you. Perhaps I should speak to the Grey Warden for advice on whether or not to accept your offer?"

I think she's hardened by default considering there are no hardening options in the DAO version of the keep and you could still romance her if you married Alistair or Anora which only happens if she's hardened.

That one was great too, because you could just tell she knew Zevran didn't have the stones to do it. About time someone out-trolled him. :S

This alternative version was hilarious too:

Leliana: Let me think about it, then. Should every man in Ferelden suddenly die, you may even have your chance.
Zevran: A-ha! Progress!

While that is true, presumably if there were flirt options they would be available at any point in the game just as they were with Vivienne. If that were the case she should probably respond differently depending on how her content played out in DA:I.
