Which is strange, because Leliana is the oldest and probably the most grizzled one there. She's like the team big sister, yet she's not necessarily the mature one. :S

Blackwall basically is a child if you take him, Sera and Solas. With the banter they have, Sera and Blackwall might as well be snickering behind Solas and shooting spitballs at his bald head. :P

Not necessarily. Being the oldest by no means equates with being the most reasonable. Just look at elderly folk. :P

Yeah, Blackwall has a silly side. I'm not overly fond of him or Bull, but then who can hold a candle to Cassandra?

Yeah.  Even when I'm collecting the Warden stuff for Blackwall, I still don't take him with me.  He's always grumpy when I tell him about it back at Skyhold.  Sorry, Blackwall, Cassandra goes where I go!

Eh... I don't like Cassandra all that much. I also feel slightly dishonest befriending her, since she seems to dislike nearly all of my decisions.

Of course, but Josephine herself sees Leliana as a big sister of sorts. I'd be inclined to think that had something to do with maturity if I didn't know better. :S

I like Cassandra and Blackwall. Both are good in combat, I like both of their characters, both are hawt. I think I took them both out as much as I could manage. It's sad taking them both out after Blackwall's revelation though, they both had so much respect for each other before that, but then Cassandra gives him the cold shoulder.

I think I took Cass out a bit more though. While the bond her and my Inquisitor formed wasn't anywhere near as good to me as Morrigan's sisterly bond with my Warden, I enjoyed it all the same.

Truth is, I loved Blackwall (in a male-bonding, about to stab some bad guys kinda way), and on my first playthrough, after the revelation, I just couldn't bring myself to bring him out any more, and Cass took his place. I've come to terms with the whole trust issue since. Now, he's firmly one of my Nightmare tanks, along with Cass.

So, yeah. It's gonna be ow when the revelation happens.

Huh. If I restricted my characters to befriending like minded people in DA, I I'd have...two friends.

I love that we can bond with them over our support of them, as individuals, without needing to agree on everything.

Yeah, when I think about it...my characters have pretty much always become closest with the ones who aren't entirely like-minded with them. My Warden worshipped the Creators while Leliana was a devout Andrastian, for instance, but they fell in love all the same. Her and Morrigan started to see each other as sisters even though they couldn't be less alike in terms of philosophy. Aveline was basically family to my Hawke, despite the fact he was a troublemaking jackass while she represented order.

Things are much more entertaining that way, tbh. :S

I don't know... I mean, usually I can find some commonality with people I care about. Like with Morrigan, I disagree with her social Darwinism, but wholeheartedly endorse her support of forgotten magic and freedom from the Chantry. Aveline, I agreed with on almost everything apart from the mage issue, and her position on that wasn't that strong... Fenris and Isabela I just rivaled. Cassandra, though, I just don't really agree on... well, anything with her.

Agreed! And I had a similar dynamic with my default Warden's friendship with Morrigan.

I'm still a little resentful that the scene where we can give her that golden mirror, and tell her we'll always be there for her, isn't recorded in the Keep.  :P

That's probably among the most disappointing things for me. Varric's friendship is recognised, why not Morrigan's? It was probably the feelsiest thing in the game.

Neither do I, really. But maybe we don't really need to? I feel the same way that you do about Morrigan's philosophy, but I can also try to understand that Flemeth's idea of parental affection and teaching life lessons played a factor in shaping her Darwinistic qualities. I don't think a person's beliefs are inherent in their character. With Cassandra, I think part of hers comes naturally to her, her lawfulness and her propensity for faith, but most of her other beliefs are at least partially nurtured by her history.

At the least, aren't her motives sympathetic? She wants to protect people, she wants to help. That's enough for me to admire her.

So much, yes. The way her voice just slightly wavers.  :crying:

Morrigan's romance is recognized pretty well, but that was one of my favorite friendships in Bioware history, and there's no way for it to really be remembered in game.

To be honest, people I know who've romanced Morrigan agree that her friendship path is more rewarding and heartbreaking, regardless whether you are a male or female Warden.

If female, you're basically like a sister to her, her only real family she's ever had.

If male, even if she doesn't call you brother, you are still the first man in her life who just wants to be friends with her, likes to give her gifts/help her without asking anything in return.

Which is why when Morrigan revealed the truth about why she came along to my male Lelimancing Warden, the Dark Ritual was the most bittersweet and tough moment both for me and my Warden in Origins. On one hand there's the sadness and resentfulness toward Morrigan for what she hid from him all along and the sudden realization; what if Morrigan used his friendship all along? On the other hand, there's the sense of betrayal he feels he is doing to Leliana, by having a child with another woman and not having the courage to tell her about it right away.  :(

Yeah...I've never actually done Morrigan's romance personally, as I've never actually completed the game with anything other than my Lelimancing female Mahariel, but I did watch it and...I dunno, it was well done, as all of the DAO romances are, but it just didn't feel quite as special as her coming to regard my Warden as a sister. The final scene at the gate, too, was one of the most impactful moments of the game for me, and strangely the romance equivalent just didn't feel like it had quite the same weight behind it.

W: "Then allow me to thank you now, for what you've done."
M: "You are most welcome. I consider it the very least I can do. I knew nothing of friendship before we met...but I will always consider you such. Live well, my friend. Live gloriously."

I could gush about this all day. At least she kind of speaks in a similar tone to those lines when she talks about how she wishes things ended differently between her and the Warden, but...more recognition would have been nice. Her coming to see someone as a sister is just as significant for someone like her as a romance is.

I definitely find the friendship path heartbreaking...in the romance things end rather happily ever after for them, in the friendship path her and the Warden are likely never going to cross paths again. She's one of the most significant people in her life, but it seems they're fated to be on other sides of the continent. :C

I tried Morrigan's romance once and hated it.  It just felt weird not romancing Leliana and not being super bffs with Morrigan.

I also tend to not like romances Gaider writes so that's a big part of it too.

I think this is about as good an assessment as it can be.

Morrigan is such a fascinating personality. Friendship or romance, there is a personal side that she offers, one that you never see until you've started to get to really know her. I sometimes liken her to Jack in ME2 in terms of how her relationship with you starts and develops, although the similarities aren't particularly pronounced otherwise.

I was personally happy with the continuation of her romance in DAI. She's obviously madly in love with the Warden regardless of whether the Dark Ritual was performed.

Now that I think about it, wasn't Leliana the only romance in DA:O that wasn't written by Gaider?

I know the feel. I can't play anything other than that. :S

I played all the romances in DAO to the end, and my favorite is still Leliana's (obviously). Alistair and Leliana are the two romances that start sweet and stay sweet (unless Alistair becomes king and you aren't human...). Morrigan and Zevran start off being about sex and end up sweet. I can't help but feel that you have to metagame to really enjoy them. After all, a Warden who romances them might not be after a committed relationship, thus why they are romancing them instead of the other two, and the shift might be an unpleasant turn for those players.

In the end, all the DAO romances end up being quite sweet, but Leliana's the sweetest.

As it turns out, the only reason I romanced Morrigan on my first run of DA:O is because of that horrid glitch where she bugs out and you can't get her to tell you about Marjolaine. I remember being so pissed about it, but thankfully Morrigan made up for it.

Oh yeah. Leliana's romanced is glitched to heck. Thankfully, with the prank pack, you can play with her approval enough to fix it.

This song is sort of how I picture the whole Witch Hunt parting between Morrigan and Lilith (in my opinion, said song works a little better when one is a mage).

I never actually had any bugs with Leliana's romance at any point. I guess it helps I usually pace out the romance throughout the game rather than exhaust every dialogue, which means approval climbs rather steadily instead of making huge jumps, save when she gets big plot gifts like the Andraste's Grace or Schmooples.

Alistair is the one with problems for me; some of the bits of dialogue I interpreted as playful banter ended up making him fall head over heels and make Leliana jealous...even though that wasn't the intention at all. Then the game bugged out to make me unable to end it. Bah. I still tend to choose some of those lines, as I like my Warden and Alistair having that playful sort of dynamic...but I have to tread extremely carefully. :S

As recently as 2013, the bug still wasn't fixed. I don't think they actually ever bothered fixing it, despite it being one of the most commonly reported ones.
