So, there was this post on Tumblr about the ages of Dragon Age Inquisition characters and everyone is freaking out that Leliana is 40+ in Inquisition, which is total bull****.

 

Leliana says in Origins that she was born in Orlais after her mother moved from Ferelden when the Rebellion ended. The Rebellion ended in 9:02 Dragon, which means she can't be older than 28 in Origins. I always figured she was the youngest of the Divine candidates; Vivienne in her 40s, Cass is 37 and Leliana would be around 35/36.

 

And her being 40 and Josie being 27-29 sort of doesn't sit well. 

Why doesn't it?

 

And by that chronology, she'd be 38, so a year older than Cassandra. However, Cassandra, I suspect, might be 40 by this point.

Cassandra is canonically 37 in Inquisition. It's been confirmed in World of Thedas Vol.2.

 

I suspect Leliana is around the same age, give or take. I'd put her at 36/37 in Inquisition. But definitely not over 40.

Well, if she is 28 in Origins (the character kit said 27), Inquisition takes place 10 years later. That makes her 37-38. Not quite 40, but close...

Josie is actually early to mid 20s I think from what her writer said

Even though the character kit is non-canon, I think 27 years old is at least close to Leliana's real age. In DA:O she mentions that she's older than she looks, and she had been operating as a bard for years before she travels to Lothering. She's probably the oldest of the DA:O LIs.

Really? That sounds a little too young to me. I can't imagine a 12-15 year old Josie already working as Antivan ambassador in Val Royeaux and throwing a post-Blight diplomatic ball in Leliana's honor.

Also we know so far that Alistair was 20, Zevran was 25 and Gaider has said that Morrigan is late 20s, early 30s in Origins (this is from one of Lady Insanity's videos on youtube). So it seems all the female love interests from Origins are older than the male ones.

 

As far the toolset goes, Zevran was listed as being 24, but canonically he is 25, so it seems not all ages are that far fetched like Alistair's.

Leliana does say she is older than she looks. Here is the banter from DA:O

Well, Gaider did estimate that DAI lasts 3~4 years so we can safely assume the majority of DAO and DA2 characters are middle 30s to early 40s by the end. Half of Inquisition's cast too.

I love Leliana's Josephine impression when you're back at Skyhold after stopping her from killing Natalie.

She pokes fun at Josie's kind personality, and aside from being hilarious that also shows the character didn't have a 180 turn.

Still the same old Leliana, but more willing to acknowledge that not *everything* needs to end in bloodshed.

But I believe Josephine's writer put her at 26/29 year old in Inquisition (can't find the quote). So yep she might have thrown a ball while being relatively young. Might have been a smaller party than say, something in Justinia's honor.

Wait what?!?!?!? DAI lasts that long? No wonder Coryfish ended up feeling like not much of a threat then, when you don't see the guy for years after the first encounter.
