So Bioware contradicts their own lore. It was in Denerim, period. She was captured by Commander Raleigh and tortured, and this was when she met Justinia before she was divine when she had Leliana taken to the Amaranthine chantry after Leliana freed herself. The story she gave to the Warden was a lie, Orlais had nearly nothing to do with it. The true story that she gives the Warden later is the story she tells you in first person in Leliana's Song. If WoT2 says that, then it's wrong.

Ever play Leliana's Song?

Right at the beginning of the DLC Leliana herself tells that she is going to tell a tale. Don't forget back then she was a bard and she loved to embellish stories.

As Heartfire, Evildude and Uncle already said, Origins story itself makes enough proof of that.

I just started a new playthrough and I could do the interrogation scene again...And I must say I too love the relationship between Leliana and Cassandra, their mutual respect is really enjoyable. They are two of my favourite characters (and also my canon romances) so it makes me an even bigger fan of it. I particulary like when Leliana stops Cassandra from harrassing the inquisitor ; Cassandra doesn't even look angry at her, she's like "ok, you're right".

I hear ya, they're also my favorite female characters and canon romances. ^.^ Every time they interact it's golden...And it's funny how they sometimes order each other around, lol and neither are even slightly bothered by it.

Leliana/Morrigan and Isabela/Merril/Aveline are a close second. Leli and Cass get first place for reasons stated above.

Why couldn't you? What's stopping you from making a Warden/Inquisitor and romance them?  :P

Cassandra's heterosexuality. :P This isn't about Leliana (who is my canon romance in DAO), I just can't bring myself to play as a dude just to romance Cass.

I'm curious now, what are your canon romances on Inquisition?

I can't decide yet, i'm between Solas for the drama, Cassandra because she is badass (and we all know that romanced characters are mentioned in future games) or Cullen.

I'm unable to romance a character that can potentially have a thing with someone else: Dorian-Iron Bull, Josie-Blackwall, Tali-Garrus... The reason is because i like to see those relationships going further or breaking up.

Canon romance is looking like Sera to me at the moment. I love Cass but her romance seems tacked-on and insubstantial compared to Sera's, with its drama and pet names and additions to the Cabinet of Wonder Whose it Was making it feel the most real of any BioWare romance I've yet played in a single game.

Those are the only two I've seen so far. Dorian is up next for me. Maybe Josephine after that. Solas just doesn't appeal to me as a romance.

My canon romances.

DAO: Male Surana & Leliana.

DA2: Male Mage Hawke & Merill.

DAI : Male Mage Lavellan & Josephine.

Why Josie ? Because she has the least amount of drama, her issues are not that bad and she will actually stay with you after it is all over. The other options might or will go away and have too many drama.

Pretty much the same as me, except I usually play a Warrior. Josie's just very nice, and after all the drama and aggravation and general unlikability of a lot of the other Inquisition romanceables, sometimes nice is all you really need. Still wish we could romance Harding though... /sighing wistfully

As far as I know Blackwall-Josie isn't really a thing, not like Dorian-Iron Bull or Garrus-Tali anyway. I romanced Josie in what I consider my canon world state, she's my Lavellan's queen of love and beauty  I love her as a character and the earlier, "awkward" stage of her romance reminded me a little of the "journal/pressed flowers" conversations between Leliana and my Tabris. What I didn't like was being unable to have her in my party, so sometimes I couldn't help feeling a little disconnected from her, but that has to be expected when you decide to romance an advisor (who is also the opposite of a fighter).
On the plus side, Leliana's shovel talk is adorable. :P

Now I'm at the end of my second playthrough and I'm romancing Sera because I felt she clicked right away with my Adaar mage. So far it's been good, much better than I expected. Sera is very sweet and her romance is... refreshing, to say the least. The only downside is that her "romance quest" basically made me wish I could have kicked half of my companions out of Skyhold (but of course you can only do that to Sera  -_- ).

I keep reading nice things about Cassandra's romance but I don't want to know too much about it because I am a bitter person and that would only make me more bitter.

Besides, Solas is already the Dread Wolf and Sera is already Andruil

When did that happen?

For me it's :

DAO : Male Duel-Wielding Warrior Mahariel & Leliana

DAII : Female Archer Rogue Hawke & Isabela/Anders

DAI : Male Knight-Enchanter Mage Adaar & Cassandra

But Merrill and Josie are my romances in my alternate canon. Same protagonists except Merrill is with a male Hawke instead of female. :)

There is one complication that I foresee from this world state that I have and that is Lelina becomes unharded Divine Victoria. I don't know how Southern Thedas will react to the idea that their Divine has an Elven lover. It would be as scandalous as the gossip surrounding Shartan and Andraste.

Yeah, that was the answer I was expecting.   :)

LOL, if it had turned out to be true, I'm sure I wouldn't have found out about it in a passing comment on the Leliana board.   :)

Hehe! I wouldn't put it past them for it to be true, but there's certainly been no official word on the subject that I'm aware of.

My canon is...

Female Tabris/Leliana; Hawke/Isabela; Female Elven Mage/Josephine

Josephine's romance was quite sweet and very romantic, I loved Leliana's scene and dueling Otranto was just awesome (and I think the relationship with Blackwall doesn't really lead anywhere because he does not duel Otranto, so I guess she ends up getting married to Otranto if the Inquisitor doesn't romance her)

Perhaps in a future they do! Just kidding, we know they will be ignored most likely.

You are all making me want to romance her. I have only got Sera and Cullen, watched the rest on youtube.

About Solas, i dislike him too much to even bother raising his approval but i'd like to see how that thing with the Inquisitor goes in the future.

I don't know if make Cass my canon romance because i'm unsure if make her divine or Leliana.

Looks like Thedas would be a happier place with softened Leliana in charge but Cassandra as Divine seems to be more realistic. I have the feeling that if Leliana is somehow discharged her new rules won't stay for long.

I doubt that, if I remember correctly Josie states that there will never be anything between them because of their different upbringing/social status. I guess the Inquisitor is the only one she would want to break her arranged engagement for.

Honestly? I don't think Leliana would give a damn. The person she cares about most in the world is fainlly at her side again; why should she care what a bunch of bigots think?

I think the real problem is that if leliana as divine Victoria might get powerfull enemies, and if they probably know lelianas biggest weakness is the HoF. either by manipulation or a real hunt to capture the HoF that presents a way to control Leliana by extortion. if they would bluff that they had the HoF in custody then they would wait to Leliana make the move to contact the HoF, and later Track the HoF down then capture him/her. (Not with a small skirmish party but with a large force).

My HoF is an Arcane Warrior that soloed the Varterral and the Harvester on Nightmare. I'd like to see what Leliana's enemies can come up with that he could not take on.

An army All at once?

will probably end up like butch Cassidy and sundance kid.

SERIOUSLY, the warden is in the end a simple men/women, who is mortal
