I'm not saying that there won't be a way for the Inquisitor to die in Trespasser, but it would surprise me greatly if BioWare released an optional DLC in which the game's protagonist dies as a matter of course.

Am I the only one that wants the Inquisition to live on?

I wouldn't mind if it did, but I don't think it's meant to. It has become too big, too powerful, too influential and without its original purpose of "uniting Thedas against a common enemy" it's only natural that the rightful rulers of Orlais and Ferelden would start considering it a threat. The Breach has been closed, Corypheus has been defeated, the Orlesian civil war is over, peace treaties have been made, the mage-templar conflict has subsided one way or another, a new Divine sits on the Sunburst Throne... what does the Inquisition stand for now? Of course this is the perfect moment for a Qunari invasion to come into play and screw things up again, but I think the same situation will present itself again after this new problem has been solved.

The future of the Inquisition has been brought up a few times in the main game: Solas wonders about your long-term plans with it, Morrigan warns you against those who "will be eager to knock you back down when this is done"; even Mother Giselle points out that the Inquisition of Old had the good sense to step down when it was no longer needed, and this is probably why Justinia chose the name "Inquisition" for her new organization. Maybe ours will end up splitting into smaller orders like the first one but I doubt it will be able to retain all its power for long, with or without the Inquisitor.

^Totally agree.

It would be surprising indeed, specially for those that can't play it for having the game on PS3/360 (like me).

Perhaps the Inquisitor's fate is decided by who drank from the Well of Sorrows.

In Peace, Vigilance. I mean the Wardens don't disband after a Blight is done, in my mind why can't the Inquisition just stay on the down-low until the next world-ending disaster or conflict rears its head (which seems to happen every decade or so).

On topic, I would like to see a scene where Divine Leliana tears off her Ceremonial Divine Robes and reveals she's already wearing her Inquisition Spymaster suit.

Well I think it is said somewhere (can't remember where... maybe when they talk about the first Inquisition) that the Inquisition disbands when its job is done. So it would make sense if it does... Plus, like LadyStoneheart said, the Inquisition has become way too powerful. It just can't continue like this.

And yes, it would be great to see her get rid of that awful outfit. I wonder how all the divines stayed in touch with the inquisitor/inquisition. Hopefully we'll get some info about that.

I bet Leliana couldn't wait to get back to her position as Spymaster. Something tells me we might get the advisors fighting by our side during the DLC since Skyhold seems out of the picture.

I think they would've shown that in the trailer if that was the case. Would be awesome though if we do get to fight with them  :D

I doubt such a beast can lay low without giving up some of its power/credibility. Grey Wardens can't disband because they are doomed forever the only weapon against an Archdemon, but they still risked total annihilation more than once and are still treated with suspicion despite trying to stay politically neutral. The Inquisitor is all but neutral, they literally molded Thedas into what it is now and once the Anchor becomes useless (or dangerous) it won't be long before they are seen as a tyrant rather than a savior.

This all sounds very depressing but it can take an interesting turn.  B)

A while ago I read a fic where Leliana was Divine and decided to replace her giant ceremonial hat with a simple white veil, similar to the purple one she wore in her Spymaster days. I think that would be a serious improvement  :P

It's a little more complicated than that, but doing that + supporting her and generally saying the whole mages should be free, chantry needs change type things should get her there.

Having Briala rule Orlais through Gaspard also favors her.

I just wanna randomly pop in here and say that I don't  regret hardening Leliana. I think hard Leliana is exactly the kind of person that she needs to be to realize that idealistic core that still drives her. I'm hoping that the devs don't just turn dark!Leliana into some evil amalgam of LF and Varys in Trespasser. The choice between hardening her and keeping her vaguely fluffy was not presented as good/bad and I would really appreciate that being kept in mind [by the devs. Even though it's already done].

I always "softened" her but I tend to agree. I like to think that Leliana doesn't turn into a villain if she is hardened, that she is still herself but with a more ruthless attitude when handling particularly delicate matters. That said it would never work for me, I would constantly be haunted by Cole's words about her "faith fallen in folly" and the terrible nightmares she has. And as someone has already pointed out, it's not like softened!Leliana turns into a weakling and is all about shoes and songs. She is still the same at her core.

Anyway, what I expect to play a bigger role in Trespasser is whether or not we completed her personal quest rather than its possible outcomes.

Leliana: When hurting inside, you either break down or put on some armor. She became Marjolaine; the Inquisitor can stop that. #BiowareBase

Does this mean if we hardened Leliana we get Marjolaine 2.0 in the DLC?

Hopefully when the full interview comes out we can get a better explanation.

Honestly if Leliana's personality is as flexible as it's presented, it seems like spending 2 years as Divine should have changed her pretty radically yet again. Or spending 2 years with the Warden not being a ruthless spymaster. Or whatever.

I don't remember that comment about Leliana...does he say that when you talk to him in Skyhold ?

Hardened Leliana always seemed like a sad version of Marjolaine to me... I hardened her in my first playthrough because I didn't know what I was doing and I must say that even if she becomes some kind of a ruthless badass, I regreted it.

Yes. When you talk to him after hardening her he says "The Left Hand is harder, faith fallen in folly. It makes the dreams worse, but sends them away faster". If you soften her he'll say "The Left Hand blooms on the bush, remembering the light that shone in her darkness. She knows how to sing again".

I reject any comparison with Marjolaine, to be honest. Leliana is not a sadist, and not even at her lowest point does she manipulate/torture people for her own benefit or just for amusement.

Thanks! I'll take a look at it as soon as I softened Leliana in my new playthrough.

And yes, you're right about her not beeing a sadist... It was only her ruthless side that made me think about Marjolaine. I really need to rewatch her scenes with the inquisitor before playing the new DLC.

So, I guess Cullen isn't the only one who has nightmares all the time. Poor Leli...

Her having nightmares got me thinking, what if it's a side effect from her time fighting darkspawn during the Blight?

She had close contact with darkspawn for a whole year, she was there when the Archdemon was killed, she might be immune to getting infected but what if she suffers from nightmares like the other Grey Wardens. What if anyone who spends enough time fighting darkspawn and doesn't get infected, has bad dreams instead? One way or another, you can't fight darkspawn up close and leave unscathed.

I think the nightmares are more likely from PTSD instead of somehow tapping into darkspawn consciousness. Really not surprising, after the deep roads and the circle tower. Also, darkspawn looks pretty horrid.

I wouldn't take a comment from a non-writer or non-dev as a fact.

No matter what kind of things Dorothea made her do, considering all her doubts and how easily influenced Leliana is, I can hardly imagine her becoming a sadist psycho with inferiority complex like Marjolaine. Like The Warden said: "Evil doesn't worry about not being good".

The years she spent working for Justinia weren't fun either. Considering that Cole mentions her nightmares after Valence and only if we harden her I think they could be related to her past as Left Hand. What I get from his comment is that she may be still conflicted about what she has/had to do, but thinking this is all necessary and "for the greater good" helps her brush off any concern.

Maybe in two years she'll have no nightmares at all, but that still won't make her similar to Marjolaine.

I'm afraid that was a transcript of something the devs said at PAX, not Ladyinsanity's opinion. :(

It's sad then, all her efforts and internal fighting to end just like that ******... Good thing we can change it.

I hope they don't make her two sides completely black and white after 2 years. Softened Leliana isn't a spotless saint feeding the poor and helping old ladies across the street and hardened Leliana isn't a completely heartless sociopath with no morals whatsoever such as Marjolaine. I feel like if they ever pushed the extremes of both sides we'd end up with some weird caricature of Leliana rather than Leliana.
