I'm not saying Justinia was power hungry like Marjolaine, she'd never go as far as to betray Leliana. Both Justinia and Leliana knew what they were signing up for when Leliana became the Left Hand, it is said so in-game. Both knew what kind of questionable decisions will have to be made and how much blood there will be on Leliana's hands.
Justinia couldn't stop her because she needed someone of Leliana's capabilities to achieve her goals, goals which Justinia knew someone like Cassandra would be too hesitant to take up arms for. And Leliana couldn't refuse or leave her position as Left Hand because she felt she owed Justinia for her rescue from Marjolaine.
Both Leliana and Justinia wanted what's best for each other and both had to put aside their ideals and wants for the sake of the greater good. Leliana says she gave up on so many things she wanted to do with her Warden to become the Left Hand. Both her and the Warden wanted to settle down, but we know how that went...
Now I kind of understand why Leliana is all of a sudden in a very cheerful mood after you defeat Corypheus and you talk to her at the party, regardless whether she is hardened/unhardened. That's actually the first time you see her smiling. She can finally go back to her Warden, to her only family.
I finished my second playthrough today and that's exactly what I thought. When she spoke about the tiny cakes during the party, it reminded me of that scene when she talks about caramel pudding, I don't know why. I really hope she'll get her happy ending.
The first time, I hardened her whithout knowing what I was doing, so I was very careful during the second playthrough... and I must say I really like her when she's softened. I also enjoyed the scene when we find Leliana standing in front of the eluvian, worrying about Kieran and Morrigan; the way Leliana reacts, the way she forgets about all the rivality thing...she really is a good person.
