Really? Are you still in Ferelden?

As of Act 3 in DA2, the Hero of Ferelden appears to still be based there ("The Hero of Ferelden should be back in Denerim by now.").

I'm not sure what the difference would be then.  You'd be busy with GW stuff anyway so what should Leliana be doing?

tbh if I was Commander of the Grey I sure as hell wouldn't want my non-Grey Warden girlfriend to accompany me for too long on treks into the Deep Roads, fighting darkspawn, etc. Unless she wanted to become a Warden herself, which I have a feeling my Warden would reject. 

 

It's a wonder none of the non-GW companions contracted Blight sickness in DA:O.

She's not a Grey Warden and there would be limits to the type of mission she could help with.

 

I wouldn't expect her to tag along forever.  That has to be boring.

Gameplay/lore segregation. The same reason why most abominations or demons are piece of cakes and my Warden survived being used as a chewing gum by 'Andraste' .
Though I think there were plans for a random companion to contract the taint in DAO.

Because Dorothea saved her and Leliana feels she owes her for that. Also, they developed a close relationship since then.

 

Though honestly Xi, I believe the problem here isn't the fact that Leliana left the Warden's side, but rather that she left your Warden in order to work for a person and organization you personally dislike.

She has a bow; with a good melee screen, the odds of getting darkspawn blood in the wound aren't too high. I think that's why she never got it in DAO. Ditto for Morrigan and Wynne.

Even when using a bow Leliana got clubbed by genlocks more than once in my case. :S

If anything, she separated from the Warden due to conflicting responsibilities.  Duty before love and all that.

I would quote Thane, "That thought haunts me more than any other." However, it seems most probable that her new beau would be Cassandra, and quite frankly, I think they're more compatible anyway, so I wouldn't mind too much.

Well i was planing on romancing Cass so i dont think that'd be an issue.

 

To be honest i feel like Leliana should only really entere a relationship with someone else if you didnt romance her in origins but thats just how i feel on it im not gonna throw my hat down and jump on it if thats not the case ha ha. Im not a dev they have there vision of how it should be just gotta trust them.
