Apologies for the title; you can see it for its sarcasm I hope.

Now I do have utmost faith in Bioware that later on we will be able to see different kinds of Inquisitor, but I am rather perplexed as to why such a great effort was made with the game cover and none made with the trailer to show different Inquisitors.

Yes, there was a different class which was nice, but so far we have seen no different race (with regards to either different human races or fantasy ones), nor sex of Inquisitor, and I just don't get why.

I really don't want to seem like I don't appreciate everything they have done - especially with dat cover - to leave the sex at least of the Inquisitor ambiguous, but when in every single gameplay video we have seen it is a white male human - when we know they they have made other Inquisitors, as can be seen from the save files when they loaded a save game last year - I'm just puzzled why they wouldn't take this chance to show the range of Inquisitors available.

Anyway, this thread will probably descend into all kinds of flame wars and trolling, but I just wanted to get my message across, that in a game that focuses so much on choice it's a shame that all public gameplay we have seen includes - to my knowledge at least - the exact same Inquisitor.

(I'm not going to bother to mention the 3/6 female/male split in companions as it's not entirely relevant, but I certainly found that disappointing too.)

Thanks for reading.

EDIT: Had to capitalise Inquisitor because I'm a fool and didn't to begin with.

How many gameplay videos are there, anyway?

Haha, I thought you were trolling at first! I definitely understand what you mean. It would be great if we could get a trailer with femInquisitor and some of the other races. Maybe soon, I hope?

What's exasperating to me is that all the shots on the web site also use the same white dude Inquisitor. They're not exactly doing a great job of showing people that you can "play it your way" with regards to gender and race.

What I don't get is why there's no mention of it in the site, we know about the four playable races since last year, why not advertise it ?

There was that like hour one from last year, a couple of gameplay things in interviews around the office for gameinformer, and this, each with the exact same person.

The exact same Inquisitior appearing over and over again is just like David Moyes-- you can't have him fired, no matter how bad he is.

Oh wait...

Could not agree more OP. It is all talk really. They say it is gender-neutral but in the way, it is the same old ideas in the PR. Also a big step back on the female companions, that now are only half. Really drop my hype.

It's probably easier, faster and more efficient for them to make advertising videos with the same model.

Such things are to be expected because the majority of the gamerbase are White males; I do not have a problem with it.

This, coming from someone who isn't considered white.

Because his helmet doesn't cover his entire face?

OP does make a fair point, I guess. I wasn`t paying attention to the inquisitor, though. I was too busy looking at the scenery around him.

But we know that they already have the models for the others, and they must have filmed each of those scenes seperately, so how hard would it have been to show a female inquisitor for one scene of it? Surely one would just need to load the save with a female inquisitor and film as they play the section they want?

Yes, but why not on the site ? After all, the site is supposed to have all the game info, so why isn't there a mention that you can play a female PC, change the race....heck even apparence customisation is not mentionned.

They have the classes, why not the rest ? it's not like it's a spoiler.

I'm scared that this might be true.

I was burned with regard to equal presentation of sexes in ME3 and it looks like I'm going to be burned in DA:I's advertising too.

this is my issue with the website....

Okay, I get it, show the one inquisitor in the trailers.....fine.

But to laze-out and not even have info on the WEBSITE that you can play as a different sex and or race other than the vanilla-dude they are showing...how hard would it have been to screen cap ONE female inquisitor and had that as one of the classes....or shown male/female classess side by side.....or even at least in the description of the inquisitor character 'Change your apperance, race or sex......'

I hear you.  Especially after Manveer's awesome presentation on diversity.

It's the "take this chance" part that is hard to overcome.

Totally agree OP.  It's actually kind of ruined my excitement for the trailer, because oh look who it is, Rugged White Dude ™. Would it have killed them to have made a Femquisitor trailer just FOR ONCE? Or hell, even one with a different race?

Are there?

We haven't heard or seen any information of who agents are yet. We just know that Leliana, Scribey, and Cullen are high up powers in the inquisition. Not that they are out only agents.

I certainly got the impression that there would be more than three agents, at any rate.

To be honest, it's pretty standard marketing tactics to only have a singular face to put at the front of all your advertising. Even in Mass Effect, femshep really only got included in the third game because she had gotten a big enough fanbase from the first two and was very recognizable at that point. The inquisitor has no such luxury of an entire trilogy.

As much as people may or may not like it, the white male is still the "default" in the industry.

Are you saying you wont be happy until there are more female companions than there are male ones?

Dragon Age has never done that, so I don't see why it would be a "step back".

Am I alone when I say that this really doesn't bother me in the slightest? The gender of the protagonist in the marketing has no influence my in-game experience. I like the trailers as they show off new footage and features, but they're not aimed at me. So I enjoy the footage and go back to waiting for the game.
