Totally agree OP.  It's actually kind of ruined my excitement for the trailer, because oh look who it is, Rugged White Dude ™. Would it have killed them to have made a Femquisitor trailer just FOR ONCE? Or hell, even one with a different race?

I didn't even want a full trailer for her, I just wanted one frame or screenshot!

To be honest having a trailer specifically for the female protagonist would be worse, making them seem a niche choice, rather than just lumping them in with ALL possiblities inquisitor, all but one of which we are yet to see.

Yeahhh, I kinda figured anytime they wanted to show actual gameplay they'd go back to default white male protagonist. Thought maybe they would only reference the Inquisitor from other companions' perspectives (like some of those companion trailers for ME2?) and show teasing shots that leave it ambiguous, but ah well.

Not really a big deal to me either way, the cover gave me silly ideas I suppose.

Are you saying you wont be happy until there are more female companions than there are male ones?

Dragon Age has never done that, so I don't see why it would be a "step back".

I think he/she must have misphrased that. He probably meant that there are twice as many male companions as female ones.

*gasp*

Total alarmist thought that just popped into my head......

What if....the reason there is no mention on the website for the game (where you can preorder btw...you'd think they'd want the sex/race info on the website) of the ability to pick a different race or sex for the Inquisitor...is because that's been cut?!?!?

That they are only releasing confirmed in-game stuff like the fact that you can change what your Inquisitor 'looks' like.....

Also notice how none of the website information or official trailers have no references on gender or races? This is how I look at it.

->They probably have a few quality assurance issues before they can announce the diversity of the character creator.

->They are waiting for a few big reveals.

Character customization is a large part of the dragon age world. It would be insane to not include, this is why I think this model is just a place holder until the real diversity can be shown. I mean it is coming out on October 7th. There is more advertising to be had.

That would be a step back then, but do we know that remaining unknown companions are all male?

Right now looking at the wiki, it seems to be 3/3.

I bet when you start the game, and the default face in the character generator pops up....its a white male. (evil laughter).

Am I alone when I say that this really doesn't bother me in the slightest? The gender of the protagonist in the marketing has no influence my in-game experience. I like the trailers as they show off new footage and features, but they're not aimed at me. So I enjoy the footage and go back to waiting for the game.

As a black gamer, i could care less what skin color/race/gender they decide to advertise with. Im going to enjoy my playthroughs regardless to how it was advertised in this one trailer.

Im willing to bet there will be a trailer specifically showing off the race/gender possibilities, patience is key.

You're right.  I had my fingers crossed when I was watching the new trailer that we'd get a shot of her, but I had this horrible feeling that vanilla dude is already being framed as 'default/canon' Inquisitor...and yeah, that's what we got in the trailer.  Same guy, different class, ugh I'm just so sick of this.

Umm, because in the final scene in the trailer, there are 3 characters carrying weapons who aren't confirmed companions, who were all listed as companions in the survey?

Tevinter Magister Dorian, elf archer Sera, and Beardy Warden.

TYhe three characters who don't have weapons are the ones who were rumoured to instead be support for the Inquisitor, not companions: Scribey J Blithe, Cullen and a definitely-not-dead Leliana.

Yah, if you look at the screenshot of the group, there are 6 males with weapons (Varric, Iron Bull, Solas, Blonde dw rogue dude, bearded warden dude, and the mustached mage dude), three females with weapons (Cass, Viv, Sera.)  There is one male with no weapon (Cullen) and two females with no weapon (Leliana, and scribe girl)...these three as assumed to be advisors/agents.

It's a placeholder character. It's more effictient both from a cost and work perspective to make one placeholder character for all the trailers. That placeholder will have no impact on your Inquisitor.

Personally, I'd rather see six different trailers with the same character model, than one trailer with six character variations. And when the came comes out I'll play who I want and not give the placeholder Inquisitor another thought.

Because BioWare always uses the scruffy white dude as their advertisement face.

Because just about every developer uses the scruffy white dude as their advertisement face.

"The Wonderful Science and Metrics of Marketing" say that this is how you advertise your game to make the most money.

I'm honestly surprised the cover art doesn't have him featured prominently and recognizable as a scruffy white dude, maybe walking casually away from a fade explosion behind him with his weapon lowered in his hand.

The most you can hope for in this battle is that maybe at some point near the end of development they will release a token "female inquisitor" trailer or something just to say they did (but I wouldn't hold my breath for that either).

They aren't going to "cut female Inquisitors", they just aren't going to market them because statistics.  Par for the course.

I';m sure there will be, however that doesn't stop it being a shame in my eyes that they hadn't shown different possibilities from the beginning.

If they are so desperate to avoid a signature protagonist like Sheploo, then it seems illogical that for the first 6 months of advertising they only shared one out of at least 8 different possible wardens.

The trouble is, I don't see how having a female Inquisitor in a trailer which more prominently included a male Inquisitor would effect sales badly?

I find this beyond silly. These trailers are a push to market the game, they need to use the same model in major marketing pushes to limit confusion to the audiences that may not be following the game as close to us. Who cares what color he/she is - that inquisitor does not represent your inquisitor.

It is not like Bioware's game that they'll ship, won't be inclusive. Give me a break.

But they have already got other Inquisitor models. Which means a placeholder is not needed.

Goodie, quick reply is broken in this thread and this thread only, even after rebooting my computer.  That's a new one.  Anyhow, like I said earlier, the developers have already said that they are going to have a trailer with a female Inquisitor in it.  This isn't the only trailer and probably not the only ad they are going to use.  While I'll admit it's a little disappointing after Manveer Heir's panel, I think many of us are being too harsh.

That said...

@Vapaa  I agree. I'm more frustrated with the (again, apparent and not confirmed) 6:3 gender split among the companions.  That's irritating and I think is a much bigger issue than the first big trailer.

A female Qunari in the trailer, would have been cool.
