I find this beyond silly. These trailers are a push to market the game, they need to use the same model in major marketing pushes to limit confusion to the audiences that may not be following the game as close to us. Who cares what color he/she is - that inquisitor does not represent your inquisitor.

It is not like Bioware's game that they'll ship, won't be inclusive. Give me a break.

Because Bioware is in a very special position the change the sexism present in the industry as an AAA games producer, and instead they are accepting it an running along it, neither making it worse nor better.

To the OP and everyone who agrees with him, you are everything that's wrong with modern gaming. You look for controversy at every opportunity and are doing more harm with than good your constant whining over little things like a trailer.

I was talking about only companion, like the ones that you take on the party and they have banter and fight along side you. There are six males and three females, in the other games it was mostly balanced with maybe only one more male. Now there is only half of the females. That never happened before.

For all their talk about equality and pushing forward, I was expecting 50\50 ratio with maybe a secret companion to balance it.

What's exasperating to me is that all the shots on the web site also use the same white dude Inquisitor. They're not exactly doing a great job of showing people that you can "play it your way" with regards to gender and race.

This worries me more than the man Inquisitor in trailers.

There's not a single speck of info on the website that you can play as a female or different races. I find that mind-boggling

It's a great game feature to advertise isn't it??? "Oh look potential players - You can customize your character! And these are all the amazing races you can play!"

If you just heard of DAI today there's nothing on the website that lets you know about the different races you can play.

Also for people unfamiliar with DA lore some info about the races in this fantasy world would be appreciated (You can play as Qunari - What are qunari? We're glad you asked....).

I would think this information is more important for new players than class specialisations that ARE on the site. <_<

Goodie, quick reply is broken in this thread and this thread only, even after rebooting my computer.  That's a new one.  Anyhow, like I said earlier, the developers have already said that they are going to have a trailer with a female Inquisitor in it.  This isn't the only trailer and probably not the only ad they are going to use.  While I'll admit it's a little disappointing after Manveer Heir's panel, I think many of us are being too harsh.

That said...

@Vapaa  I agree. I'm more frustrated with the (again, apparent and not confirmed) 6:3 gender split among the companions.  That's irritating and I think is a much bigger issue than the first big trailer.

It's hardly a issue. You're making mountains out of ant hills.

I'm not so much upset by the lack of Lady Inquisitor in the trailer so much as I am by the absence of her on the website. I already know they're gonna do a Lady Inquisitor trailer--that was stated in a different thread. But the website. I don't see why there wasn't a peek at her yet, there. And, furthermore, it wasn't explicit that you could even be a Lady Inquisitor that I could see. That was incredibly disappointing to me. I just wanted to see something at all for her...I hope that it'll get added soon.

I';m sure there will be, however that doesn't stop it being a shame in my eyes that they hadn't shown different possibilities from the beginning.

If they are so desperate to avoid a signature protagonist like Sheploo, then it seems illogical that for the first 6 months of advertising they only shared one out of at least 8 different possible wardens.

The only time they've shown this protagonist was in this trailer and the demo. Its also possible that the races are still going through rehashes and design changes, meaning that if they were shown then changed, some fans would inevitably be disappointed.

I can see why they would keep using the male Inquisitor. He's been used before, so it's to keep consistency. Still, it's really disappointing that there hasn't been even one shot of Fem!Inquisitor, or hell, anything on the website to show she even exists. Especially after that really promising cover art.

And if Bioware did cut out the race/gender creator after promising it, I can guarantee the explosion on the forums would be WWIII-level.

Personally I'm fine with the majority of the trailers, especially these early trailers showing just the vanilla-dudebro Inquisitor....although I would hope as they get closer to release that they would show a video that you can play as a different race/sex so you can see what they potentially look like.

What's I'm miffed at is the website.

Would be super easy to add at least a couple of words on there about being able to play as a different race and/or sex.

Or  on the Class page, showing both a female and male Inquisitor of the class.

That's just super lazy.

It would probably be a good idea for them to show off the different options for characters

Just because I am never going to play anything but a white male human doesn't mean more options shouldn't be displayed

Could you please grow up?

Apologies for the rudeness, but comments like this annoy me.

Unless you have a point to contribute, it would be nice if you don't immediately prejudge all threads about sex to be 'part of the problem'.

To paraphrase Alistair: 'Prejudging is...bad'.

Ive always thought it was a waste to just show 1 type of player character in a game that has different gender & race choices, people not knowledgeable with BW games could easily think they'd be stuck with the default version thx to the other options seemingly being ignored in marketing.

The problem is, it just seems like it keeps happening.  Bioware releases some new stuff -- it's full of rugged white dude -- people complain -- bioware say they'll do better...and then nothing changes.  All we get is a placatory bit of cover art with a vaguely gender ambiguous figure on the front, and that's supposed to be enough? And as the OP said, how would a trailer just featuring a brief shot of Femquisitor be either difficult to accomplish or somehow endangering sales? (I'm not saying you've said this, btw, I'm just talking more generally).

Man united better be hiring a female manager that is I can say.

Why?

There is no reason a man would be worse for the job than a woman, nor vice verse.

If a woman wanted to be manager and she had the skills, that's great, but being a manager is about the skill you have, not the sex you are.

That is an entirely different issue to the one of advertising.

Not including a female inquisitor in a video game trailer means Bioware is accepting "sexism," that is a ridiculous notion. People who look to get offended are easily offended. That's all I'll say about it.

Why, because I think people searching for conservatory is doing more harm than good and masks real problems? Wake up, there is nothing wrong with the trailer.

I was a little disappointed as well. When I saw that the Trailer was called "The Inquisitor" I thought they'd show us some customization options, different races and genders... the important things  about the Inquisitor that people want to see - we already got that he'll somehow be special. Don't get me wrong, I liked the trailer, but they could have chosen a better title. More like "The Beginning" or something cause it was basically about how Cassandra meets the inquisitor, what the plot is about and how the Inquisition is founded.

I see the OP`s point. But I seriously this bit was an intentional thing by Bioware. The fellow in the trailer looks like the same fellow in all the trailers and gameplay vids we have seen so far.

The ladies do have a point Bioware, though I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of the female inquisitor in the weeks and months leading up to launch.

It kind of IS accepting sexism, if the motivation for only showing this male character was because most people who play the game are male.

What other reason might there be for only having one, outside of advertisement reasons?

Did I ever say there was anything wrong with the trailer?  No.

How is asking for a bit of equality in marketing doing more harm than good? And what, pray tell, are the real problems that these requests are masking?
