Why, because I think people searching for conservatory is doing more harm than good and masks real problems? Wake up, there is nothing wrong with the trailer.

Okay, I'll bite.

In what way can one make comments about sexism in gaming and NOT be searching for controversy, in your opinion?

Or are you just loathe for all discussion of it, and trying to justify that with a reason?

Yah, if you look at the screenshot of the group, there are 6 males with weapons (Varric, Iron Bull, Solas, Blonde dw rogue dude, bearded warden dude, and the mustached mage dude), three females with weapons (Cass, Viv, Sera.)  There is one male with no weapon (Cullen) and two females with no weapon (Leliana, and scribe girl)...these three as assumed to be advisors/agents.

Well, that does suck and I don't really get why they randomly went 6/3 on the companions. As far as the advertising goes I do still see the logic in it though, even if it may not be ideal for people.

The trouble is, I don't see how having a female Inquisitor in a trailer which more prominently included a male Inquisitor would effect sales badly?

You can't really say 100% for certain how a single scene with a female inquisitor would affect sales or if it even would at all, although the general accepted guideline is that it's more effective to throw everything behind a single recognizable face or mascot, and gaming is still viewed as being dominated by male gamers. Unfortunate and not entirely true anymore, but that's how it is.

To be honest, personally I suspect only having a single scene or so would just cause confusion. A number of people would probably think that the female inquisitor was somebody else, seeing as how the male inquisitor has already become the "face" of DA:I.

and of course people would complain that the trailer was still mostly about the male inquisitor and the female one barely got any screen time, but this is the internet and if you don't do things because people might complain you wont get anything done(and then people will still complain that you didn't get anything done).

To be fair, Cassandra does like 85% of the voiceover for the video.  I'll take that.  After all, she's female and (arguably) non-"white".

The trailer does say "gameplay trailer" as well. Just thought its worth a mention.

It kind of IS accepting sexism, if the motivation for only showing this male character was because most people who play the game are male.

What other reason might there be for only having one, outside of advertisement reasons?

It's quicker and cheaper to use a placeholder? You guys are just looking for things to complain about and slap sexism on it.

"OMG three more males, sexism!"

"No female PC in the trailer, sexism!"

Could you please grow up?

Apologies for the rudeness, but comments like this annoy me.

Unless you have a point to contribute, it would be nice if you don't immediately prejudge all threads about sex to be 'part of the problem'.

To paraphrase Alistair: 'Prejudging is...bad'.

There's nothing wrong with the trailer, people who say there is are doing more harm than good and your constant digging for criticism is getting yo nowhere.

Also you're prejudging an entire game based on one trailer, so I'd look at yourself before throwing around a quote like that.

I think Bioware made an effort with DAO, with the different class/origin videos and the different wallpapers (some of the art is pretty cool). As far as I'm concerned, this was more memorable marketing than their "Sacred Ashes" trailer. Even if more money went into making that.

The ladies do have a point Bioware, though I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of the female inquisitor in the weeks and months leading up to launch.

I hope so.

'Cause right now.....you go to the "Official Website" there is NO mention at all of being able to play as a female or even as a different race.

Or even races. They are probably not ready to reveal the diversity of the character creator yet.

Best thing to do is to wait until the next reveals.

What effect does that have on whether there is only a man or many different kinds of Inquisitor?

Different races and different gender for each race has been confirmed earlier. Nothing to worry about.

Just gameplay being showed. Not customization and character creation.

...I'm not prejudging a game based on the trailer. I never comment that the game will be sexist in any way.

I am saying that so far the advertising has been sexist, so it looks like you have misread my argument.

Perhaps if you took the time to read it properly, it would seem less like finding faults with everything and prejudice, no?

Aye, that is  a surprise (if only because not doing so really  sells the game short).

It's not inherently sexist to target a product at a particular audience

I'm perfectly okay with the male inquisitor being advertised.

i would just be more okay if he wasn't the only one being advertised.

Instead of having a fleshy inquisitor why not have a skeleton placeholder? You won't know its gender or skin texture, plus look at all those bones.

Win-Win for all.
