October is still some months off. I am sure we will see 1-2 trailers more before that time.

I've had little patience with the whole 'sit down. shut up, it's not a big deal' attitude. It's slowly dwindling to no patience at all. If it really weren't a big deal, I wouldn't need to ask for this sort of thing, because it'd already exist. If it's no big deal, then it's equally not a big deal for them to just do it in the first place. If it's not a huge issue, then they should have no issue with just doing this sort of marketing without being told first.

So, the next person that tells me it's no big deal can quite sincerely mount it.

Just as a note:

when we know they they have made other Inquisitors, as can be seen from the save files when they loaded a save game last year

This is not the evidence that you think it is.  When those saves were made, they were still all using the same player character model.  I still remember the first iteration of the female Qunari player character that... still had an effed up version of the male human head sticking out of her throat (complete with lip synch...)

While your concerns are fair, your belief that the player models all existed based on the save game screenshots isn't correct.  (Though feel free to be upset that we still went with male to start, since it is a valid concern)

Some people deflect big issues with either humour or mockery, and refuse to actually debate the argument.

To the OP and everyone who agrees with him, you are everything that's wrong with modern gaming. You look for controversy at every opportunity and are doing more harm with than good your constant whining over little things like a trailer.

This.

I am tired of people taking every little snippet as some kind of offense. What game Developers should do is not give any information up until shipment time. I am amazed with how tolerant Bioware has been.

I think if the existence of a white male placeholder character ruined your anticipation from the trailer you are massively overreacting. It would be nice to see other Inquisitors in the trailers, but so far this technically is the only trailer where he the Inquisitor at all.

But it's just a commercial. I am never attached to the placeholder character they use in advertizing and marketing.

Bioware's (any company) main goal is to make money.  I'm sure marketing does these trailers with this in mind.  I see no problem.

Oh, I see, thank you for clearing that up.

So that removes my evidence that you have already created other player models and so could show them to us.

So does that mean that you haven't actually made the models yet? Because if you have, than the concern is just as valid :P

Considering we're only about 6 months from release, I would be a little surprised if you had only created the human male inquisitor, though.

"OMG three more males, sexism!"

"No female PC in the trailer, sexism!"

I never said the game was sexist but it is true that there are only three female companions and six males companions, explain to me how this is not a step back? All the other games had a nice balance, this game does not.

Bioware is always saying they are gonna to do more and better and have panels about sexism and lack of representation but than why that ratio? No I am not happy about that at all. And people have the right to express their disappointment.

There's nothing wrong with the trailer, people who say there is are doing more harm than good and your constant digging for criticism is getting yo nowhere.

Also you're prejudging an entire game based on one trailer, so I'd look at yourself before throwing around a quote like that.

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood this thread.

How is it doing harm to criticize this Trailer? Is anyone prejudging the game in here?
And where exactly is it getting you to "dig for critisism" about our critisism? Works this way around as well, you see?

Many people in the thread have said that, while you might not, others have and that is plain silly.

To be fair, DA:O only had three females (well, arguably four).

However, one would expect Bioware to have taken steps forward with this regard in the last few years, not backward.

The more posts i read, the more i think im the only girl whos ok with male inquisitor in advertising...

I know, right? It's a mere trailer, and that doesn't take away anything from gameplay experience. Goodness sakes, I'm a non-white girl and I find no sexism in this.

Well that's a shame for them, and we might regard it as silly but it may mean much more to some people, and so we can't really judge them for being disappointed.

This is where I feel I need to draw the line

Just filling out numbers of women vs men isn't really progress.

If the female companions are blatantly sexualized, poorly written, and little more than animated mannequins then this will become a more relevant concern rather than the numbers of the ratio

This guy has popped up frequently in media and will be many people's first impression of the Inquisitor character. From an aesthetic point of view, they could have tried to create a unique Inquisitor, he is the generic looking character often seen in games.

Is it really not enough that they give you control over your gender, race and sexual orientation? I know that non-white, non-male, non-straights don't get a fair shake in marketing, but there are costs and demographics to consider here. Should they make a trailer for every combination? Or just some? Which ones should get a trailer and which ones shouldn't? Not to mention the general concern of advertising, which is "don't confuse idiots", or the lowest common denominator. They'd be all like, wait the main character shapeshifts into a giant, horned lesbian? And then a mage? And then Legolas?

I don't know how you could really show that feature off in a cinematic trailer. Maybe in a more feature-laden trailer they could emphasize character creation and show all the different options you have.
