Personally, while I would like to see a female inquisitor, I don't think it's too much of a problem seeing as we're going to be able to play as black, non-human, female and/or whatever combination we want in game. That said I am a white male so I'm probably a bit biased.

Where;s your evidence about the companion distribution?

Seven confirmed companions: 4 male, three female (grey warden, solas, iron bull, sera, cassandra, varric, vivienne).

That leaves two.

We then turn our eyes to the scene at the end of the trailer: all 7 confirmed companions have weapons on their backs, and two more do, adding up to a perfect 9.

Those two extra people with the weapons on their backs are the magister, and cole (?), both male.

Hence, 3 female, 6 male.

*I've had little patience with the whole 'sit down. shut up, it's not a big deal' attitude. It's slowly dwindling to no patience at all. If it really weren't a big deal, I wouldn't need to ask for this sort of thing, because it'd already exist. If it's no big deal, then it's equally not a big deal for them to just do it in the first place. If it's not a huge issue, then they should have no issue with just doing this sort of marketing without being told first.

So, the next person that tells me it's no big deal can quite sincerely mount it.*

Just adding my voice to this....and am wondering if it was reversed and  they only ever used a female , would this still be the attitude.

My evidence is on the trailer, check that out.

DAO had 3 female and 4 males and in total really 4 female and 5 males depending on how you played. DA 2 it is the same. It was never only half.

Doesn't say anywhere yet on the official website that you can play as anything other than a human male.

You can change the apperance of your Inquisitor, but that's it.

First big trailer/website release.....rather odd they left that super huge chunk of info off the website....

Really? This again? Don't you think this have beaten down enough? Yes, it would be nice if Bioware expanded their advertising, but when you keep opening this can of worms (Like with many other topics that call for all kinds of representation ) it creates the same arguments either for or against it until the eventual lock when the arguments get too heated.

How often do you need to go over the same points made in the past? Does repetition make it more likely to happen? Are you afraid Bioware will forget? They won't. They are well aware of their diverse fan base. You aren't forgotten and you read WAY too much into advertising. People who play Bioware games know that, and if a woman is instantly turned off by a game based solely on a Advertisement and is unwilling to look into the game, then that is their own fault.

Why?

There is no reason a man would be worse for the job than a woman, nor vice verse.

If a woman wanted to be manager and she had the skills, that's great, but being a manager is about the skill you have, not the sex you are.

That is an entirely different issue to the one of advertising.

The % of qualified managers that would be female would realistically be rather low correct?  Or at the very least lower than 50%.  If they put an add out to hire a new manager then they should for sure have both a male and female image on any notice correct?

The general annoyance from these threads complaining about from my point of view is that it is directed at a company that has been and is very far ahead of the curve as far as things like female participation, equality both in terms of sex and sexual preference.  I'd say if this is a real issue then people should spend their energy on the 98% of other game companies and games that are not even remotely close to BioWare in this regard.

I can't wait to see a screenshot with a female protagonist in it so I can howl about there not being a male included.

I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but being able to know that I can still play a white male human is enough for me, I only look at trailers for potential clues to the storyline

DAO had three females(four with dlc)

Not new at all.

No, but one would expect progress between iterations, and Shale is only arguably female (she used to be, but is now neither).

Anyway, companion composition really isn't the focus of the thread, so I would prefer it if you guys would stay on topic. Cheers.

I'd have to tell you to sit down and STFU if you complained about 1 picture......when all we've seen so far, and is on the offical website is 100% info on a male protag.

Looked at the screenshot at the end of the trailer for inquistion and there were 5 females there, so your math could be a bit off there guy. Until we know whose a companion and whose a NPC (Difference between garrus or steve from ME3), we can't say what is going to happen.

They're fugly? Must have seen the wrong companions then.

Ultima 7 had 3 female companions, and 6 male ones. Betrayal at Krondor had 5 male ones and 0 females. Those are arguably my favorite rpgs. Neither game suffered one bit from it. DA:I having a 6:3 ratio is no bother at all.

No, it has been confirmed that we can play as human, dwarf, elf or qunari. And seeing as we have been able to play as a female I'm every other DA game, I think it went without saying that we could play as a woman.

This guy has popped up frequently in media and will be many people's first impression of the Inquisitor character. From an aesthetic point of view, they could have tried to create a unique Inquisitor, he is the generic looking character often seen in games.

He's probably meant to be generic, if he made too much of an impression then that would make it seem like he was a set character.

As it is, I'm hoping they're going to use the helm as the distinct mark of the inquisitor, and can thus swap in female or elven inquisitors without confusing things too much,

I don';t understand your last comment.

When I saw the first screenshot of the male inquisitor, I didn't call it sexist. I am calling it sexist after six whole months of only seeing him, which is a very different situation.

If you complained about the lack of males after 6 months of only female advertising, then I would be 100% behind you!

Wrong, we got two female qunari inquisitor concept art pieces, don't act like Bioware has done nothing about female inquisitor.

Leliana is in the party camp bit in the trailer, though. Are we 100 percent sure she isn`t a companion?

And if you were a total DA Noob......no info about it other than seeing the stuff that was released today (i.e. hadn't been following the news snippets, or didn't do any research) all you would see on the official website is that the Inquisitor is a human male and that you have the ability to change what your character 'looks' like.

But NO info that you can have a female Inquisitor or an Inquisitor of a different race AT ALL on the official website.

It is not off. Please read what I said more carefully.

There are 3 women WITH WEAPONS and six men WITH WEAPONS and all seven so far confirmed companions have weapons thus it is sensible to conclude that the other two who have weapons are the other two companions.

The other 2 women and one man are not companions, hence they are irrelevant to the question you asked about companion composition.

And that's ignoring the fact that the other two were listed as companions in the survey.

Just let Marketing do its thing.

Is marketing integrity really worth DA:I being a commercial failure over?
