I'd like to bring up a more important issue, how come all the female companions are fugly? My Inquisitor needs a qt to wife up.

In my opinion Sera is quite hot,m and I'm not even attracted to women!

Not to mention that what you said is completely irrelevant to the thread :P

What are you guys even talking about? it is exactly about numbers.

So having more male companion than four is not losing quality? ok than, I guess I do not need to discuss this further.

Just let Marketing do its thing.

Is marketing integrity really worth DA:I being a commercial failure over?

I'd like to think that the game will do well because it has an engaging story, memorable companions, and fun gameplay

ads only go so far

Companions aside, if the male inquisitor model was done first then it could have just been the only viable choice for marketing at the time and as was already mentioned, it's most effective to have a single "mascot" in marketing and be consistent about it. As to why the male got created first, maybe BioWare can mention something but I suspect it wont be a reason that people will be satisfied with. There isn't a specific reason I can think of to create either the male or the female first beyond the fact that somebody has to be created first.

This constant throwing around of the word "sexist" is also absurd and has a "If you aren't with me you're my enemy" vibe to it.

*I've had little patience with the whole 'sit down. shut up, it's not a big deal' attitude. It's slowly dwindling to no patience at all. If it really weren't a big deal, I wouldn't need to ask for this sort of thing, because it'd already exist. If it's no big deal, then it's equally not a big deal for them to just do it in the first place. If it's not a huge issue, then they should have no issue with just doing this sort of marketing without being told first.

So, the next person that tells me it's no big deal can quite sincerely mount it.*

Just adding my voice to this....and am wondering if it was reversed and  they only ever used a female , would this still be the attitude.

Well yes, looks like male players and some female players do not give a flaming **** about the sex of a character shown in trailer and general speaking if that was a problem tomb raider wouldn't had been able to sell a 1/10 in his 14 years career.

And if you were a total DA Noob......no info about it other than seeing the stuff that was released today (i.e. hadn't been following the news snippets, or didn't do any research) all you would see on the official website is that the Inquisitor is a human male and that you have the ability to change what your character 'looks' like.

But NO info that you can have a female Inquisitor or an Inquisitor of a different race AT ALL on the official website.

Look at articles and videos beyond the website. Trust me it's been confirmed for a while (I'll try to provide a link).

I wouldn't blink at a 6/3 split if I believed there would ever be 3/6 the other way.  But I don't, really

The most irrelevent part of a game is the thing people are making the most waves over. Guess that's a testimant to how good a job they're doing with everything else in the game.

I seriously don't get the outrage about females/other ethnicites not being represented in advertisment material.

For that matter, why are all "whites" lumped together as one ethnicity? Scandinavian people look nothing like Greeks, and yet they're both still considered "white."

Is every ethnicity going to have to be represented?

Regarding the gender, the fact is that the majority of gamers are males, and advertisements are always meant to target the largest demographic while utilizing the least amount of money.

So you believe the game will be a commercial failure if they add a few pics and Scenes of a female Inquisitor? Lol.

That's besides the point. Plenty of games have had an engaging story, memorable characters and fun gameplay, but failed. Psychonauts for example. Enslaved is another good game that failed because of marketing.

With the proliferation of Twitch and Let's plays (Which are great free advertising), it's less an issue I'll concede...

When ME3 came out, they had a male Shep in the first trailer, and a femshep one later. I could see this happening with DA:I, as well.

*duh*

I have been following the info releases and interviews on the game.

There are many people out there that are not dedicated news trollers for the game, or that don't come to the forums.....all the info they may see are in the current news releases and the information on the game's website.

It's stupid and lazy to not at least mention (using a couple of words, pretty easy to add to a website....if they dont have a decent looking female default Inquisitor built yet) on the official website that you can play as a female, or a different race.

Oh, I see, thank you for clearing that up.

So that removes my evidence that you have already created other player models and so could show them to us.

So does that mean that you haven't actually made the models yet? Because if you have, than the concern is just as valid :P

Considering we're only about 6 months from release, I would be a little surprised if you had only created the human male inquisitor, though.

Models do exist now.  The head morph system just got integrated not too long ago and is being iterated on - character creator does exist and I can create male/female of all the characters.  Now it needs to be amped up in fidelity and fixing the issues that exist so that they look good.  The Inquisitor you see is actually a full on custom body mesh, including the head.  This workflow won't be representative of the game.

At this time I *cannot* create the Inquisitor that we see in the trailers through the character creation screen (well, unless things have changed today).  It's not an issue so much of "do they exist" but "do they look good enough?"  Though it's valid to suggest that we could have spent some time making a custom female body mesh too.  Unfortunately I don't have any visibility on how long something like that takes, so I can only make suppositions as to why they didn't.

Sorry. :D

You're just the [stereotypically] fairest ethnicity that comes to mind, while Mediterranean/Middle Eastern peoples are just about as dark as caucasians seem to get.

Yes because there are now nine companions. That is exactly my point, there is a lot more quantity now than normally. And it is on the male side. I am a little sorry for you because it seems you did not notice that.
