You really have no love for Cole huh?
I actually liked Cole well enough in the novel and saw real potential for him to be an NPC in the game.
I just have no desire to have him in my party, nor do I want my character to be a cheap knock off of him.

I am working under the assumption that we're not going to turn out to be Cole 2.0, because screw that.
um if this was a peace conference... wouldnt say all the big name figures from both sides, depending on what its over, be dead? I can hardly imagine a peace conference for the civil war with out celene and gaspard... them getting killed would really kill the plot.... and as for the mages v templars... i just dont see them killing off rhys, fiona, and other memorable characters this easily either.... im at a loss really, but the mage v templar choice seems more likely
The circumstances of the explosion add a religious undertone to some people’s interpretation of what has occurred.
Indeed. Now who can deny that I am the new prophet?
I'd be kinda disappointed if they just killed off alot of important characters like that

I really don't think they will.

Dragon Age fans already know about the breach in the sky. It is a giant tear that opens up into the Fade, the realm from which magic and demons originate. However, the trailer reveals that circumstances surrounding its appearance are catastrophic. Not only are thousands of people killed – they are thousands of important people. The blast accompanying the breach’s opening occurs during peace talks between the mages and the Chantry, so it takes out some key players. “The very highest level of both the Chantry and the mages were at these peace talks,” Lee says. “And they’re all dead. Those two factions are absolutely in chaos. Essentially, the head has been cut off of both groups.”
Logical deduction.
Say it's for the mage/templar war.
Thousands being in attendance, it would make sense for Rhys, Evangeline, Adrian, maybe even Fiona to be there to represent their cause.
Maybe even Justinia would be there to oversee it.
By the Maker...we could get all of them at once.

You just know the moderates will all die and the extremists will be left behind.
I don't know if this has come up, but, if the Divine is dead, has anyone considered who will be the new Divine when things are stable? Leliana or Cassandra, maybe? It would be interesting if you could choose.
That's true. The idea of the Inquisitor literally walking out of a breach in the Veil is... enormously meaningful for Chantry doctrine.
Maybe the Inquisitor is...the Maker!

They aren't mothers/grand clerics in the chantry. I assume you have to be one in order to become the divine. Similar to how you need to be a cardinal to become pope.

This seems like a pretty extreme case, though. They have basically no hierarchy left, from the looks of things. I would think the rules are probably a little less important right now.
If the Mages and the Chantry were there, were the Templars?
edit: You don't need to be cardinal to be Pope, I don't think. Wikipedia says you just need to be male and catholic. Though admittedly, it's been Cardinals since the 14th century
I think several characters that people want to see from the extended universe (the novels, comics, and standalone dlc adventures) are going to die in the opening scene of the game. It's my hope that the game starts just before the actual summit so we can see it play out. Considering the leaders of both sides are supposedly going to die, that's our only hope of catching up with Fiona, Adrian, and arguably Rhys but I could see him being elsewhere. And let's not forget Justinia, the woman whose presence was felt all throughout Dragon Age 2 despite being a world away from Kirkwall. I don't wanna see her go.
If the blast happens in a city, that would explain it more plausibly. It hasn't been stated, but I believe it's the mage/Templar war.
The Chantry leadership seems to bear the brunt of the casualties from the blast (this was also mentioned in the survey plot summaries), and it's very hard to see the Orlesian Civil War continuing if either of its competing leaders were killed.
Then again, with the scale of casualties Cassandra mentions - in the thousands - maybe it's just a general gathering of important people from all over Thedas, trying to solve all its conflicts at once, which is attacked?

So long as Fiona dies, I'm happy.
If Rhys and Evangeline die it would explain why Cole is invested in the Inquisition. Sure seems like a waste of Wynne's sacrifice, though.
I've said in another thread that I can see how Cole can break away from Rhys and Evangeline without too much problem; they were important parts of his character development, but they were still just individual stepping stones on his path. They, and Lambert, in his own way, help him get to where he is, the Inquisitor helps him get to where he's going.
There's also some leeway to where Evangeline might survive. She and Rhys are in a relationship, but they aren't joined at the hip.
So long as Fiona dies, I'm happy.
Look, let's not overreach. We should just be happy she was not the one who was sucked into the Fade and gained the Mark. Because if this was a book, you know she would have been the one.

A man can dream.
Seems to be exactly what's going to happen.
They've apparently confirmed it's Mage/Templar in a magazine interview. That puts Rhys, Adrian, Evangeline, and Fiona's odds of survival at a very low point.
