Ack! NO! I went into a couple of stores today and I totally couldn't find a particular product. Hence I MUST break the law!

Look, I support media sharing, but even I think the title of this post is stupid.

To be fair, I totally support pirating of games which are dead/discontinued from manufacture.

Propagation of the software to keep it alive is great, especially for games like Planescape Torment which can only be bought second hand.

Mass Effect, however, isn't dead.

Steam is an absolutely horrible "option" for many, many reasons which I will not list here. On top of that, I loathe not having physical copies of a game I supposedly own, placing myself at the mercy of someone or something with absolutely zero accountability.

More to the point, however, is that my economic situation wouldn't allow me to purchase anything online.

I could understand the OP's position if it was a 10-15 year old game that is notorious to find, but we're talking about a 2 year old game that is available everywhere.

You don't seem to have read my post. My entire point is that I can't actually find it anywhere. I don't have a "position"; My complaint is that the game seems to have been basicly discontinued. At least in Sweden.

Pirates use the stupidest reasons to pirate a game.

You act as if I need an excuse. I find that hilarious. I pirated the game the first time around without a reason, why do you think I'd need one this time around?

BTW imports made from cracked versions of ME1 have not been tested with the sequel, so you may or may not have a smooth experience transferring your character. You can gamble, though.

The fact that you think that pirated version are mechanically different to a retail version is hilarious.

The whole point of the thread isn't that I pirate it, or that I'm going to pirate it. The whole point is that I can't FIND it, to NOT pirate it. Please, people. At least make an attempt to read the thread before you post.

I really hope that more companies start using more innovative DRM, like in Arkham Asylum...

From what I've heard pirating Arkham Asylum leads to batman falling like a rock. Fun!

"I got the game for FREEE-- Ouch." Seriously, folks, support developers that make games that are actually good. Read reviews and consult with friends before buying games, and leave the crap ones alone.

What a total putz. You say you generally buy BioWare games to show your support. You later say you have already played Mass Effect, you then say you are trying to buy it now.

Sneaky thiefs are just an element one has to put up with.

The thiefs that trumpet that they are pirates and then have the gall to suggest someone else is forcing them to be are flat out retarded.

360 or pc?

On a side note, unless you're trolling, it's not usually the best idea to admit to piracy on official forums ;p
[...]

PC, I completely forgot that Bioware forums become more and more like the Blizzard forums for every day, as the audience shifts. And yes, I know that piracy isn't the best thing to admit to on a game's official forums, but the point was never that I pirated the game in the past, but more that I don't -want- to pirate the game now.

It just took longer than it should have taken to get around to get a proper copy of Mass Effect. I have all other games Bioware have produced, including the golden age, so I'd really like to get Mass Effect.

There are many, many games in game stores that are much, much older than Mass Effect, yet they no longer carry Mass Effect. Often, older games get re-released as time goes on and the price drops. As I said in the original post, there's a whole "classic" section of games that are 5 years or older.

Yet not Mass Effect. Why was Mass Effect never "re-released"?

He said that he doesn't like not having physical copies.

That being said Varenus, it IS available online as a physical copy (at the very worst, you may have to import). Regardless of your financial situation, it's there for the buying. It's unfortunate to hear that you can't get a physical copy in a brick and mortar store in Sweden, but I'm pretty sure that even you don't believe the only option to be rape, pillage and rum...possibly mascara and sea-shanties.

And scurvy.

Exactly my point. Apart from supporting the developers that develop good games, you also have a physical copy to place on your shelves. The shift into DVD casings never sat well with me, but at least they look nice when stacked on a shelf.

Steam much? Or D2D as the other nice people suggested? No one is being forced into piracy. You could probably have Googled for info on Mass Effect 1 and come up with something. *snort* Laziness FTL (for the loss).

Then why did you come on here to announce it? The only two reasons I can think of would be to either troll, or to try to paint yourself as the victim (which I know from experience, a lot of pirates do).

Did your crew mutiny? That's the only scenario I can imagine to make this work.

Still, whether you pirate is your concern.

Ok. ME1. Have you tried any local used game stores?

Unfortunately, the closest Webhallen-store to my location is Malmö. And that's still over 70 kilometers from me.

I'm sorry what? You were forced into piracy? Someone had a gun to your head did they? Thought not.

There are many ways to purchase the game legally, some without even using Steam.

Pirating really grinds my gears - Bioware put a ton of work into their games and you've negated some of that by stealing it.

Forced to pirate a computer game? What, did the voices in your head get too strong to resist? Are you some kind of online kleptomaniac? Seriously, get help.

Paypal still requires a bank account. Which I, for reasons I'm not going to go into, don't have.

If you're going to pirate, whatever, I'm not policing you, and for example I love using emulation for games.

But if you're going to defend it, especially for this reason... ugh.
