I think it would be such a bittersweet mirror-image, as Rhys was the first one to make Cole feel human, and then Cole would be the one to make Rhys feel emotions again.  Seriously, this is some hardcore feels right here, I kinda love it.

But why would being compassionate make Cole not survive? Merrill survived DA2, Alistair often survived DOA. Compassionate people don't have to die.

 

Yeah, my bad, sorry. I was torn between ignore list and reply and took the bait /o\ I shouldn't clog up the thread.

 

Honestly I've been thinking he's not going to make it ever since we first (sort of) found out he was going to be a companion, simply because his state of being makes it very difficult for me to imagine him being left as-is at the end of the game. He's stuck in a wierd half-state of existence, and while it's sort of tragically satisfying to send him off into the sunset to wander alone without ever being remembered, if I were BW I'd probably be inclinced for the all-out death-or-banishment gut punch instead of the subtler sadness of sending him off to a lonely-but-possibly-fulfilling life.

 

The compassionate thing only strengthens that for me because it'll make the tears taste sweeter.

I hope he's possessed by a demon. I am sick of companions being possessed by spirits. Hopefully he's possessed by a lesser demon like desire.

Desire isn't all too bad. Cole has a desire to help, he kills those with the desire to die. He desires to not be forgotten, etc. Who knows, maybe the desire demon is slowly becoming its opposite concept (whatever it is)

Well, he is completely optional. So it's not as if the game's balanced to not be able to function without him.

 

It should be obvious from the amount I've posted here but I should clarify that I'm saying this as a fan, not somebody who's hoping he gets offed out of vindictiveness or something. It's just something I expect to happen. I'll be pleasantly suprised if I'm wrong.

 

(Also, I am out of likes, but everybody posting about the Tranquil Thing in the spoiler tags would get so many if I still had them. You wonderful bittersweet people, you)

Did the other one get posted too? It was on a day when the Cole thread hit like, suddenly 20 in a day and I couldn't get through it all, so er I'll just repost it and if it's already been posted oop <_>

 

On the current topic of merging and possession, I don't think Cole could be possess or can possess a person the same way they did. One if he did that he would lose his sense of self doing it, why would he do it, and hopefully they keep away from the possession bit unless it's done in a sort of short term mind control. Having him possess the Inquisitor doesn't seem all that productive to his 'helping people no matter what' bit.

I can't help it - I enjoy angst when it's good angst, and I think poor Cole has the story potential of being very, very tragic but in that satisfying way.  Where a death or sacrifice is "worth it", ya know?  If he has to go, anyways, I hope its in a manner like that.

With the flurry of posts and fan art from other people I'm having a hard time remembering what's been and what hasn't been posted yet. I was actually worried the IB one was already posted.

Wow - this thread got like ten more pages since I looked at it last.  Took me forever to get caught up... Anyway I don't want to go back and find individual posts to reply to, but here are some thoughts:

 

First off, to the person who insisted that it's weird for people to find someone who looks sickly/deadish attractive, may I direct your attention to a movie called Interview with the Vampire...?  To those of you who might not be aware (though it seems odd to me anyone would have not seen it, I have to remind myself that while i was quite young when it came out, that was... ahem... many years ago,,,) it stars Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt as a couple of hot but not very healthy looking vampires... To use an example that isn't something *cough*glittery*cough* modern and maybe deserving of scorn.... Just, you know, saying    Cole's character design to me is attractive, albeit in an other-worldly creepy way.

 

That said, for me it's not his sickly-ness or possible teenage-ness or even him not really being human that's the issue as far as him being an LI.  It's his mental and emotional capacity, and what that means in terms of his being capable of consent.  When I read Asunder I didn't necessarily think 'child,' but whenever he narrates, his view of the world comes across as simplistic and a bit immature.  His relationships with the other characters are as well.  He pretty much latches onto anyone who's nice to him and will trust them completely.  If he agrees to sex or a romantic relationship, is he agreeing because he understands what it means and it's what he wants?  Or is he agreeing because he trusts implicitly that you won't hurt him/because he doesn't want you to stop being his friend if he turns you down/because it's what you want and he wants you to be happy?  That's why I find the concept of him as an LI disturbing.  The best i can do is give people who would want to romance him the benefit of the doubt in thinking they might not understand this aspect of his character.

 

And in regards to him coming to a tragic end? Please, Bioware, don't make me go through another Legion.  Please, for the love of all that is good in this world
