I was actually losing interest in DA:I for various reasons until they released that gameplay trailer, and I saw that Cole was a companion. Well, if that's even Cole.

 

I guess it might be kinda sad that I like a character from a novel so much that them appearing in a game is one of the main/only reasons I'm buying it, but whatever.

Cole has become my favorite character in Dragon Age, and I'm really looking forward to possibly figuring out what he is, because it's been bugging me ever since I finished Asunder.

Also really hoping my Inquisitor can hug him at least once because I've wanted to ever since I read the book tbh >.>

Don't feel bad, Cole is one of the main reasons I'm still really excited about the game after they shot down all bi/vague for the romance system.

Oh don't feel bad, my friend only was recently interested in getting DAI (being rather uninterested in what was shown up until the trailer) because she saw Cullen in the last shot XD The fact of him being romancable made her perorder it, and it's perfectly fine to be interested in something from something as small as a character you like appearing. Hopefully it will do the characters justice enough to warrant the initial purchase c: 

 

Meanwhile, if there's a dry up of some fanart I have a little back up chibi thing I did of Cole just a little bit ago to add to some stuff of him. Just a quick little thing, too much finals drawing makes drawing for fun difficult hopefully.

Edit: You know...I don't know the rules for images either, but considering I think I've posted bigger ones (and a lot more at this point) I'd get in trouble first. I'll have to go see if I can find any.

I'm not discussing anything sometimes but it's in the spirit of Cole fan excitement/celebration and I always accredit the artists in the posts. I don't think so, as long as those images are a part of Cole discussion. But I may be wrong.

Ok, so on a sidenote: I hope Cole gets a surname...or title, or something. Because trying to find stuff specifically about the Dragon Age version of Cole is...challenging if people don't tag with "dragon age" or "asunder".

I think they're more talking about meme pictures for trolling purposes than fan art in the fan threads.

Aw cheers everyone I'm glad you like it c: I'll certainly draw more when I'm finished with classes in a week or two, plan on making a set of chibis of the whole companion set. It'd be the beeest thing ever though if they showed better pictures of the characters but will have to be a touch patient I suppose. Still working on those chibi clay fellows I have in the works, slowly though, may as well put the WIPs I have done so far, which has Cole so it counts! (I haven't added the paint or cooked them yet so they're rather blank faced XD)

If DG's "hypothetical" tumblr conversation between Varric, Cassandra, and Cole is anything to go by, it might be "son".

Cole?! I had speculation he would be in the game and he is very popular with the fans, but could that really be him? he so... bulky. I picture him thin and a bit scrawny, but that could explain his size. I mean in theory, it's been years since the incident in Asunder, perhaps the years gave him time to bulk up and even learn some new skills.

Ok, I think I have to come back and explain a few things about my view of Cole.  I don't hate the character of Cole, as a matter of fact, I think he is an outstanding addition to the DA universe and a very well developed character for the story in Asunder.  I guess I am breaking a bit of the 4th wall when it comes to him tho, as I am using my knowledge of the character from the book to influence how my Inquisitor will act in the game.  I don't hate him as a character, I just see him for what he is, a demon.  And I know there will  be those that try to argue against me on this, but the major clue was there at the end when *spoiler!!!* Lambert used the Litany of Adralla on Cole and dispelled everything he was doing.  It was at that point that both Cole and Rhys realized what Cole was.  The Litany only works on blood magic and demons, as stated in the wiki.  It would not have worked unless Cole is either a blood mage or demon.  My problem with Cole is that so many seem to dismiss this out of hand and only focus on the little crying image of a boy that this demon is attempting to emulate (although I will accede to the point that I do not believe the demon was being malevolent about it, as it did not remember that it was a demon until the end).

 

What I was trying to get across before was that I am going to have to reserve final judgment about Cole when I meet him in game as "me" knowing what he is should not dictate how my character perceives him in game.  Eliminate as much of the 4th wall breaking as I can.  But since I "do" know what he is, I personally would not hesitate to send him back to the fade.

 

What we all have to keep in mind is that the whole question now floating around regarding Cole's status is a thing being directed toward potential players that have not read Asunder and do not know what he is.  Since it is very likely that many players of DA:I will not have read the book and need to be hooked onto the character as an awesome mystery to solve.

 

I know I am probably not clearing up my views on Cole as much as I would like, but let's all just agree that he is a very interesting take on how a spirit/demon would try to emulate a person. 

 

 

Also, I think that if they go one way, I could be perfectly satisfied with him as a companion.  If there was the option in game, to influence him to become a good "spirit," or to drive him to be full on "demon,"  that would be an awesome character mechanic. 

 

Also-also, to those talking about romancing Cole?  Are you serious?  This has nothing to do with any "vibe" or any crap like that.  DG himself stated he's an adult with the mind of a 12 year old!  That's just sick really...

As you said I think that the writers may pull a scenario where you can try to help Cole overcome his evil nature, I'm not entirely sure such a thing is possible but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt although I'm going to be watching him very closely, he may end up betraying the Inquisitor.

Amusingly enough, I never noticed Cole standing there until I watched the IGN Rewind yesterday and someone mentioned him by name.

Rhys and Evangeline aren't dead yet, that we know of. People have been speculating that it's possible they will die at the start of Inquisition, because there's a massive explosion at a peace talk between the Chantry and the mages that supposedly kills off basically all key figures on both sides.

That would be pretty cheap considering someone had to die to get them both to the end of the book alive.

I'm avoiding spoilers for Asunder in case someone hasn't read it. Is there much point?

For the most part the spoilers here are only about Cole or things directly associated with him, not Asunder as a whole. If you need/want to, use [*spoiler*] text goes here [*/spoiler*] take out the *s.  And also I'm sure most people here have already read Asunder, or have read the spoilers here and have decided to read Asunder as a result.

I'm not sure if broody really applies to him, but that might just be my impression of him, to each their own. Definitely not the same type of broody as Fenris or Anders at the very least. But mysterious and semi-aloof is spot on.

Nope, Cole is not like Fenris at all. In the book, he didn't really complain or whine about his awful fate to anyone. He also wasn't in any way aggressive or hot-headed like Fenris. He was curious about who he was and trying to figure himself out. And also very brave and loyal to his friends.

I don't think brave is a good description of Cole, more desperate.  He seriously did not want to lose the only friends he ever had, and desperation can drive one to do things when even bravery would not be sufficient.

I hope Cole will have gotten more comfortable with fighting. I've still got about 1/3rd of Asunder to go, but it made me really sad when they were in the fade and he was trying to fight to protect Rhys. Like, oh nooooooooo, I don't want to make him feel like this over my Inquisitor. 

 

But I assumed he's changed somewhat since the realization of what he was at the end of the book, at least.
