Yeah, I'm at the point now where I'm trying to stop second-guessing the romances. I was fixated on Cassandra and then was on the Sera hype train for about a fortnight, then the whole "it" thing made me think she might not be the best fit for my first girl and so now I'm back on Cassandra again. But Scribbles looks like a complete sweetheart too. I can't decide, so I'm going to sit and wait and see if the race-gating makes my decision for me

 

I've never done a first run before where there was ever a completely permanent party member other than the LI, but I think Cole might be the exception for this. I suppose it depends what missions show up and whether I'll feel more comfortable keeping him with the party or keeping him away from that particular jaunt.

 

For example: can't decide if I'm definitely taking him to Emprise du Lion or definitely not taking him, since there are apparently Masked Empire things going on there. I sort of want him to meet Imshael just for the lore goodness but on the other hand I can see running into Michel ending very very badly, so.

I never doubted I'd like Cass, the only question is whether or not she is bi-sexual. If she isn't, that's okay! Viv and Scribbles are great also. And honestly with Sera, my initial reaction was shock but it makes sense. Fear of demons is not bad, it's healthy in Thedas!
Rereading her character interview though, it states she likes "people that try" and Cole is trying. I feel if he shows he is trustworthy she will come to like and respect him! I refuse to give up on her or condemn her until playing.

See that's why I ordered the play guide thingy. I want to know what I'm getting into(and if there are any suicide missions) before running head first into them. I'd like to avoid a certain amount of heartbreak my first play through...

I think that voice and subtle accent would make him sound far too hot.    (although I wouldn't complain.)

Well, I have several reasons for ordering it, but the main way in which I will use it, is to know where they each have really special (pre-)companion-quest-y interactions (i.e. points of needing to switch in a character), which I hope gets clearly marked, so I don't get spoiled overall. (I'm also thinking parallel playthroughs for my first three Quizzies, so I can alternate the surprise some between them, but hell knows whether I'll be able to stick to that.)

 

As for romances: Ever since the Sera f/f-only reveal, it was clear to me that Solas would definitely either be bi or not romanceable at all. Other than that? Don't have much of a clue at all.

Something is telling me Solas will not be a LI. Can't pinpoint why but, just got a feeling.

While I feel like Cole is also out of the picture in that matter, I feel like the recent twitter comments have thrown some doubt into that.

Oh yeah, I'm certainly not condemning Sera or saying I'm averse to romancing her (in the first playthrough even, depending on how things develop throughout the playthrough). It's just something personal to that Inquisitor - she's a qunari who's had a lot of experience with people being disrespectful and/or hostile due to the uncommoness of her race in the south and that unfamiliarity creating fear and agression, etc. And now she's got a great huge Fade mark on her hand and she's in a position of power which means she's going to get even more of that sort of thing. But she honestly has no time for people being disrespectful to her like that just out of fear and she's likely to react the same way when she sees somebody else getting the short end of that particular stick, even if Sera is justified and even if Sera thinks my Inquisitor herself is alright despite all her unusualness.

 

So it's more an a PC-might-be-incompatible thing than anything else.

If he was a LI afterall.. I think he would be the BI* one. He cared deeply for Rhys regardless of his gender. I'm not saying he had any of those feelings towards Rhys, but I think Cole would "love" someone for their personality and for caring about him and giving him the time of day - I don't think gender would come into it. And since he's not technically human.. I don't think physical appearance (including gender) would even come into it.

He's just a sweetheart.

I also think if the writers at bioware did ever decide to make an asexual romance, Cole would be a good option for that.

Gods I would love for an asextual relationship for a change. They haven't done one in these games and if they were they ever going to do one Cole would be perfect for the spot. Platonic is pretty much what asextual is in a way, love without the need for a physical relationship. So Cole having no physical relationship but obviously capable of a platonic relationship hardcore wouldn't be hard to see. It would leave the squick away, but still have the warm fuzzies that a romance is supposed to have.

Definitely not, he was just wishy-washy and I do not consider chaste because of religion to count as asexual.

Asexual biromantic (perhaps panromantic would be a better term?) sounds lovely. The closest I've ever written a character like that is having one that was a panromantic grey-asexual. (So close, but not exact...) Just a cute chaste romance built on friendship and mutual respect would be nice, though I'd be happy just being his friend. The Dragon Age romances always end in the player and LI banging, and as a result it can be a bit frustrating, especially as it's not optional. So Cole would be an ideal choice as I don't think he'd have those feelings for anyone regardless of romanicibility. (Also I don't think Cole knows where babies come from anyway)

 

Edit: I can just imagine Isabela and Zevran trying to flirt with Cole only for all of it to fly over Cole's head, because he'd take their innuendos literally. Cue Zevran and Isabela drinking in the corner. 

 

And no, Sebastian doesn't count. He used to be quite the womaniser, but changed his ways because of the Chantry. Also, in a rivalry-romance, it implies that he's going to break those vows soon for you, so no, he doesn't count at all. Also he was an awful romance imo shhh

 

Edit 2: I'm stuck for whether I'm okay with him being romancible or not now. Before I was firmly on the "nope no romance" train, but after considering the possiblity of a asexual chaste romance... hmm. I really doubt it'll ever happen though, considering... y'know.

Cole has the mind of a 12 year-old and no concept nonverbal communication (well communication in general). I think you would be lucky if you got "EW Cooties" if you even tried flirting with him.

I assumed it'd be more like "O_O I don't get it" above all else to the point where the flirter just gives up and finds somebody willing.

 

Edit: As in the concept of things like flirting and romance/sex/etc. would literally be foreign to him, and if you tried to explain, it would just confuse him more because it's just such an alien concept.

I pick the armour "I don't care, as long as it has good stats" and of course Cole's Ridiculous Hat. I am making him wear it all game, even if he gets better, less ridiculous hats throughout the game.

Oh, don't let me consider Cole being an asexual LI. [SIGHS] I remember how excited I was when it was revealed that Sebastian was a chaste romance. Man, that was a disappointment. Cole, or any non-Desire-demon fade denizen really, would be a great way to explore an asexual romance. That way they wouldn't have to explain what asexuality was. It's just not known enough outside the internet for people to understand, I think. (Which super-sucks when you're trying to explain it to your parents.)

 

I don't actually expect Cole to be an asexual option for Inquisitors, though. Not after what DG said about Cole. Now, things could have changed, but, well, I think putting any hope for that is just asking for disappointment.
