Cole is definitely going to be the fangirl fave. Brooding, mysterious, semi-aloof. I guess he's a cooler Fenris.

I hope Cole will have gotten more comfortable with fighting. I've still got about 1/3rd of Asunder to go, but it made me really sad when they were in the fade and he was trying to fight to protect Rhys. Like, oh nooooooooo, I don't want to make him feel like this over my Inquisitor. 

 

But I assumed he's changed somewhat since the realization of what he was at the end of the book, at least.

If we assume the first darkspawn came from the Fade, it would make sense for Fade creatures in general, right?

How come Cole could hear the same music the darkspawn can?

I'm of the mind that in close proximity, Spirits can hear the Call as well. In some ways, the call is technically from the Fade originally anyways.

By the end of the book, in my opinion he gets much better certainly in a part that involves Rhys. He gets more control, and even instinctively he's been pretty good when he was in a fight. Got rather surprising results in the fade fights when he was able to take care of them, I think it was just his fear words in his head making him seem like he's not doing so well, when he was able to actually take down a few fake dark spawn. Clearly more of a sneak fighter though when he gets to use his abilities, face to face seems to rattle him up (or in the Lambert fight case, outmatched then again it took a group)

The fact that he actively pursues Lambert at the end speaks a lot for his progression, though, I think. I definitely couldn't see him doing that early on. 

Oh his fight with Lambert is a real treat in many ways, even if it's completely one sided because Lambert lives up to his title and skill. I can see Cole being much more like his Lambert fight, being much more focused and less panicked instincts.

 

It's why I believed him to be a companion, he totally read to me able to fight despite his earlier frettings in a fight. Even at the start with Rhys, that one part where it's described at first Rhys thinking he's cowering but in reality was crouched ready to attack and when he noticed that is like perfectly fitting how I think some people think Cole is in a fight. He's soft and wibbly and shakey, yet when actually put into a fight he shows skill that he probably doesn't really realize.

He's actually a 3 year old Klee Kai. They're a mini-husky breed. The one in the picture isn't mine, his owner posts a lot of pictures of him on a dog site. His name is Casper. I actually have two Klee Kai, myself, but they'll never stay still long enough for an adorable picture like this. 

 

I wonder how Cole will feel about pets. Better than Justice, I hope. lol

I don't think brave is a good description of Cole, more desperate.  He seriously did not want to lose the only friends he ever had, and desperation can drive one to do things when even bravery would not be sufficient.

 

Bravery is defined as courageous behavior or character, and courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one. Desperation is a mechanism that drives individuals to rash behavior, which can be very courageous indeed, especially when protecting friends and family.

I think it makes him look really broad. Like some viking. Not like the young slim man I guess he's supposed to be.

For some reason, it reminds me of something a mage would wear? Maybe it's the baby cape thing, and the bit where it looks like he's wearing more of a long skirt thing rather then some pants, it's really hard to see what he's wearing. His 'dirty mage leathers' he just never bothered to change out of and ended up being all brown and muddied. Add in the belts though and I do get the thiefy look. Entirely guessing though, since the mages in DA prior didn't wear anything fancy up until this game.

 

He never gave a toss about his looks before, I bet there will be a comment from the fab npcs about how much of an unfashionable bum he is. Him and Solas being taunted by Vivienne to go shopping. (that must be the npc Gaider was talking about when he commented on a fanart with Vivienne and Iorn bull saying a mean girls line to Solas, and how it's missing a character who I always figured to be Cole)

I thought the mean girls reference might be Dorian, since I see him and Vivienne being enemies. Either that, or because the two superfab mages making fun of Solas together makes sense. lol

I think the point of Cole's aesthetic would be to state he's...just getting by with what he has or finds, or something like that. I expected a mix of random damaged and hand-me-down armor to be completely honest.
