Beat me to it, I hadn't reread that far yet. Buuuuut while looking for that part, I stumbled on this in chapter 9:
Cole moved through the darkness. He could hear the heart beating, like an insistent lure drawing him close. He could feel their despair. In the silence it was like a clarion call. How could he have not heard it sooner?
a few pages later:
Cole reached out and awkwardly patted her on the shoulder. It seemed like a useless, impotent gesture. He had no idea how to comfort someone, nor was he certain why he felt the need to...
She began to move toward the doorway, but before she went more than a couple of steps she stopped and turned towards him. "You saved me." She smiled. It was a shy smile, but full of gratitude. "I will remember you forever."
"No you won't."
I felt like PW was telling us new things about Cole in the interview...but after finding this, I wonder if Cole was always intended to grow that way?
I think he was, come to think of it, which is a good thing because it implies that Cole's character growth is going to be a lot more natural and smoother than we think. He will still be Cole, but he'll have grown, which is exactly what I wanted. ![]()
Unrelated fanart time of baby Cole!
