Beat me to it, I hadn't reread that far yet. Buuuuut while looking for that part, I stumbled on this in chapter 9:

Cole moved through the darkness. He could hear the heart beating, like an insistent lure drawing him close. He could feel their despair. In the silence it was like a clarion call. How could he have not heard it sooner?

a few pages later:

Cole reached out and awkwardly patted her on the shoulder. It seemed like a useless, impotent gesture. He had no idea how to comfort someone, nor was he certain why he felt the need to...

She began to move toward the doorway, but before she went more than a couple of steps she stopped and turned towards him. "You saved me." She smiled. It was a shy smile, but full of gratitude. "I will remember you forever."

"No you won't."

I felt like PW was telling us new things about Cole in the interview...but after finding this, I wonder if Cole was always intended to grow that way?

I think he was, come to think of it, which is a good thing because it implies that Cole's character growth is going to be a lot more natural and smoother than we think. He will still be Cole, but he'll have grown, which is exactly what I wanted. :D

Unrelated fanart time of baby Cole!

I wonder how much influence the Inquisitor will have over Cole. From the interview it appears he is now trying to do the right thing, and I don't think he will sway from that, but I wonder if we (as characters) can change his opinion on what is wrong/right. He seemed to have gotten his moral compass from Rhys so I want to know if those views are still his idea of good. Maybe he has evolved and is starting to make his own decisions about what is right. That would be cool.

Either way I am excited and Cole is one of my favorite characters ever. : D

He's definitely my favourite so far (:

I personally think he'll be a lot more independent in DAI. From the interview, we know he has his own little thing going - he wants to help people. I assume he came to this decision individually that this was the right way to "live" or maybe even repent, though this probably stemmed directly from his relationship with Rhys or memories of the relationship. It could also be that he wants to help people because he thinks it makes him more human?

I still think he'll attach himself to one person. This could be the inquisitor if we choose to be nice and become friends with him - or possibly Solas if we decide to go the opposite route with our relationship with Cole. So I think this friendship/attachment will influence his opinions and actions - though ultimately it will come down to what Cole thinks is right. I doubt his sense of right or wrong will be simply black and white though, as I'm sure the inquisitor will not be able to completely do good even if we try our hardest. Times are hard. We will have to make sacrifices. If his views are black and white, this would mean he'd attack/abandon us at any time he could think "ok, wrong decision in my eyes. Bye." - What I'm trying to say is I think he'll be a lot more complex and human-like in terms of morality and general thought-processes. Maybe he is becoming more human. We'll see.

(I tend to go around the trees to get to the woods when explaining something. Sorry :P)

I can't wait to meet him! It's getting closer and closer but still seems so far! I can't wait to hear Solas/Cole party banter too. (:

EDIT - oh and here.. have a hat, on the house. :police:  ha!

Well considering his father murdered his mother, and was planning on hurting Cole and his little sister, I'm having a hard time not being on lil' human mage Cole's side here.

I agree. It's not like little human Cole could go to the authorities about it, as even in our time do the authorities really take control of these situations in a useful and timely manner. I suppose he could've fled to the nearest Chantry with his sister (if she was alive at the time), but there were risks with that too (such as being able to outrun and hide from his dad without getting caught, or attacked in some way by something else), especially with his magic.

They never really addressed the matter with his sister in the novel, I felt.  They led you to understand what happened as a reader, but Rhys and Evangeline never really talk it out with Cole...(unless I completely deleted that scene from my brain).  I've been wondering since the survey leak if these were topics that were going to be discussed in-game since it was such a big part of forming Cole.  Worse yet, they could always show it in the Fade.   :(  I want it but I kinda don't.  The feels...

Rhys tells Cole "You're not responsible for what happened to her, Cole." and they briefly talk about it.

Edit: Oh no, why'd I have to start reading this part again? It's breaking my heart! :(

Yeah a lot was simply insinuated. From what we were shown it seems his dad likely physically abused them(both wife and children), as Cole knew to hide. That tells me his father's violence was normal and something he knew, along with trying to keep his little sister quiet shows that chances are his dad had every intent to kill his children and Cole knew it.

I doubt he would go to the authorities. He was young and a mage and I'm sure he was very afraid of being taken away and of what they'd do to him.

They only very briefly talk about it, and it's why I'm hoping we'll get a lot of chances to really talk to Cole. Although he seems to be aware of what he is now so it's unknown whether the human Cole's memories are still haunting him. They weren't mentioned to be in the newest information about him so I think it's not much he'll talk about tbh.

Wonder how the team finds out about what he is, does he outright tell them, something about how they meet him or similar?

I'd like a "you... you can see me?" kinda scene out front. :P

Maybe if Solas is with the party, he'll comment among the lines of Cole having the fade within him, or something. Or maybe the inquisitor's connection with the fade gives them some sort of insight. Perhaps they'll first meet him in the fade?

I don't see Cole as the kind of person to try and hide what they are, especially now that he actively seems to be looking for ways to help people.  His special abilities are probably how he tries to sell himself to the Inquisition.  I'm thinking (and hoping) we get to visit the White Spire & that's where we find him.

Just had a random thought. What if our fade hand has something to do with meeting Cole?

Is it possible that the ability to go into the fade is how we are going to meet Cole? Cole is a fade being so could he go to the fade whenever he wanted or is he trapped within the material world?

I've been wondering too. Especially considering he did *poof* after he is called a demon. I assumed he returned to the Fade and was able to come back on his own to kill Lambert. But it never really said one way or the other, and I think we have no way of knowing till Inquisition. I'm thinking he wont be able to. I feel he may now have an understanding of what he is, but not necessarily understand everything that comes with that knowledge. With the Fade tear though I doubt he'll be trapped in the material world.

I would think he's equally trapped here as he would be in the Fade if not.. I.. don't know. Did Cole let.. Cole out?

That's a good question. Come to think of it, where did he disappear to? It's not like he just turned invisible or Lambert would've just used the Litany on him again, plus Rhys would've still been able to see him. Did he go back to the Fade? If so, how did he come back to kill Lambert? Does he have the ability to go through both here and the fade at will? How much time passed between the battle in the White Spire and Lambert writing that letter to the Divine? How does spirit Cole know now about the real human Cole? Did he regain the memory of comforting human Cole in the White Spire when he went back to the Fade? So many questions... here's hoping Inquisition answers them.

Maybe Solas could help him have access to the fade again (if he lost it that is)? Heck I think even the Inquisitor could help with his Fade hand?

The thought came to me when I saw the fade screenshots. With the sky being torn apart I should wonder why we are daring to go into the fade in the first place.

Maybe it's just me remembering something wrong, but didn't Justice (Awakening) say that he was trapped here and couldn't go back to the Fade? I think the same would be true for Cole unless he has figured out how. Although that is a big possibility.

Wasn't Justice trapped inside Kristoff's body though? As far as I remember it has not been stated whether Cole is trapped in a body or just used his power to take on a form.

Or a cute backstabbing creature of the night. Lock your doors and hind your women and children. For this cute demon has the eyes of an angel that burn with the fires of hell. :alien:
