I've been theorizing possible scenarios for Cole - since I have nothing but time and imagination on my hands - and I was wondering if we'd get the option to "give" him a body?  For all intents & purposes, though the exact specifics elude me, he seems to be a disembodied spirit/demon.  Maybe we can grant him the chance to start over?  Obviously this would take either 1) a freshly dead body, 2) a comatose person, 3) a Tranquil who is willing, etc.  Just a thought.

I'm worried that the natural conclusion of closing all the Fade Rifts will end up in Spirit/Demon Cole being trapped in the Fade forever.  If he had a physical body that may not be the case.

im not so sure cole requires a body, i mean the ghost of the spire thing has been going on for years and it seems the game is almost right after asunder....  if "cole" had possessed a corpse, then we would have seen signs of decay by now...  plus even with all the speculation, we dont even really know what he is....

I don't think Cole is currently in a body, but his whole situation is weird to me.  He is described as having symptoms of a human body, like sweating & crying actual tears (also, he's tangible), yet he dissipates completely when the Litany is used so...?  If he was possessing a body during Asunder I'd think the body would remain behind while his spirit was exorcised out of it (something which is never mentioned).

It's a bit confusing, which is why I'm so excited to hear more from him in-game.

I thought the Litany of Adralla just dispelled the magic he was exercising over himself and Rhys? He felt like he was fading away from the world after Lambert told him he was real right? Kind of like Cole's existence is him depending on his own belief or other'a belief that he is real.

I thought it banished him?  I wouldn't think he'd voluntarily leave Rhys in a bad spot if he could help it, but I don't know - the realization of what he was could have shocked him enough to vanish on his own.  It's been awhile since I've read Asunder so you'll have to forgive me if this was spelled out in the books & I just don't remember it.

To quote Asunder from page 457:

"Invisibility is an interesting trick, I'll give you that. Of course, every trick is worthless once the truth is revealed." He put away the vial... and took out a small book. It was an odd thing, the size of his palm and bound in shiny gold. The man opened it and began reading aloud. The words were old, Ancient Tevinter... almost a chant, really. ... Then something changed. The tingle of magic, pricking along his neck. It swept through the passage like a wind, and with it went the shroud that hid them. Cole gasped in shock.

Lambert throws the book to the side, and beats the crap outta Cole. After he's done with him he picks the book back up and then simply shows it to him and calls him a demon. Then Cole *poofs* after realizing he "isn't real".

Just gonna quote myself since I'm too lazy to type it all out again.

Fade creatures are very different. It's possible through sheer power and will they can have tangible "real" bodies. That's basically what a shade is anyways. We've just never encountered one that looked human or took on a form other then their demonic one. At this point though... I am certain I have no idea! I'm just gonna wait for Cole to tell us. :wizard:

I'm fairly sure the Litany of Adralla just sort of staggers demons to make them stop doing what they're doing for a moment, like stopping them from continuing to cast a spell or in Coles case ruin his focus on keeping up the invisibility. I remember playing in Origins recently when you used the Litany, you had to use it many times to stop the demon in the Circle quest from turning the mages into demons (or whatever it was that guy was doing)

Cole later vanishes in the fight because of what Lambert says to him during the fist fight made him realize what was going on with himself. That everything he knew was a lie pretty much then just sort of... went away on his own. Not sure what happens there, but he either does the invisible thing and runs away again or he teleports away. Can't face Rhys because oh god I must be a demon thing.

Cole fading away can't be his invisibility though, or Rhys would've still been able to see him. Earlier in Asunder (page 66) Rhys was caught playing chess with Cole by a templar, who didn't see Cole and just thought Rhys was playing the game by himself. It would have to be something else, be it teleportation or disappearing off into the fade again (remember that the Veil in the White Spire was very thin) or another way of disappearing without Rhys seeing him. Both Rhys (and it's implied Wynne could too) could see Cole, regardless of whether Cole wanted to be seen or not, it's one very consistent rule about Cole's invisibility. Unless Cole somehow managed to figure out in the space of two minutes how to disappear without Rhys seeing, it's not his invisibility.

Yeah that's true, the whole him fading away thing is rather confusing though. It becomes a question of did he let himself fade away like what he had been fighting against the whole time or warp away type of deal. Don't think he learned how to suddenly warped, but then him fading away only to reappear later to Lambert and appearing in game with a donk'd nose (on a totally random note, I love the fact that his nose looks like it had been broken before and healed weird. That's such a lovely touch)

Even if Rhys is very capable of seeing him so the fleeing away invisible is a flawed, Cole just sort of warping away doesn't make sense to his abilities.

Cole had that mentality in Asunder, then got over that if the interviews had anything to clue in how he'll be in Inquisition. No mothering included.

Things about Cole from Raptr QA:

Is there any character you don't want to met - ever - in a dark alley after nightfall?

BioWareDAI  The Mother. Presuming she fits, that is. --Laidlaw

BioWareDAI  Cole - Mark

Will companions have their own unique specs like in DAII or can you assign them the same specs that players could chose from a la Origins?

BioWareDAI They have a Spec based upon their unique story. Consider Cole... - Mark

I thought they said they wouldn't have special specs? I haven't been paying enough attention to announcements about the battle system obviously.

lol poor little mite. I'm allergic to those!

So what we learned today... Cole's creepiness/scariness is on par with The Mother. But also implying it wont be easy for him to turn on you...

Or you know, jokes.

I think even if he did turn on me for some reason.. I'd still be like "Hush Coley.. hush *puts finger on Cole's lips*.. come here.. hug time. *cuddles*"

If you had to be stuck in a room for an entire day with one of the companions, who would you choose?

BioWareDAI Not Cole. He'd freak me the *$%# out! - Cameron Lee

I love this. I was hoping he'd be creepy still and it seems he definitely is.

Now I'm just imagining our Inquisitor heading to his/her bedchambers, in the dark. He/she struggles through the darkness to find the candle to light, then as he/she lights it, the light reveals Cole just kneeling in the corner near the window, causing the inquisitor to jump in surprise.

"I like the view from your room, inquisitor. I.. I didn't mean to scare you.."

Awwwh.. now I'm just getting my hopes up.. I'd share a blankey with him any day ^_^

Haha, okay, now I'm just thinking it's Cameron being weirded out by the character versus Cole actually being up to possibly nefarious things.  Not that I was really concerned, but one can never be too cautious on the BSN.   -_-
