Just quoting what Gaider said in a Cole thread in Scuttlebutt in regards to Cole's "childlike"ness.

What I said previously is that Cole is effectively a child -- not that he has the mind of a child.

And that was specifically in the context of being asked about romancing him. Cole is not socially developed enough to comfortably give consent, at least not in the way that we picture it. Others may imagine otherwise, and that's fine, but we're not going to write that story.

That does not apply to anything else, or imply that he is childlike in general. Be careful when you read interpretations about him, and don't mistake them to be things that we've actually said regarding his appearance in DAI.

I think we'll know from the get go that his a spirit/demon because Bioware has made no attempt to hide the fact that his not human in the marketing.

That's possible. The Breach might be having an effect on Cole as well as a spirit, so it could be obvious to the protagonist. I suppose it's possible something might happen to explain why the Inquisitor might be willing to recruit Cole (from an in-character perspective, rather than through metagame knowledge about the character from Asunder, given how harsh some cultures view spirits).

So according to David Gaider's answer in his tumblr blog,Cole is Fereldan.
It's been a while since I read Asunder,but wasn't it suggested at some point?http://dgaider.tumbl...ter-mark-of-the

I'm really hoping that Cole isn't one of those companions that's easy to miss (like Fenris or Leliana and Sten) because I really don't want to miss him. Anybody have any guesses how we'll meet him?

I just thought I'd share this from Gaider's blog for those of you who don't follow him on tumblr. It's a post where he's talking about what it was like to pass Cole off to Patrick Weekes, and I thought it was pretty sweet :3

I so can't wait for what Weekes has in store for Cole. I adored The Masked Empire, and while I haven't played Mass Effect 3 yet, I've heard nothing but praise on the things he wrote for that.

And Gaider saying that Weekes did a great job with Cole strengthens my belief in him actually being great in the game. I'm also very happy to hear that Cole actually made it into the game. Sounds like that nearly didn't even happen.
Look into my eyes, and get hyped for this game.

Eventually I even stopped backseat writing, peering over Patrick’s shoulder with nervously clutched hands, asking how my baby was doing. Patrick, trooper that he is, did not once tell me to go **** myself.

I love this part. It's like a nervous David sending his little Cole off to his first day of school.

@eplerjc Speak for yourself, Jepler. *I* wanted to give them the game with the bug where Cole's pants run around independent of his body.

@BioMaryKirby Okay, yes. That would be amazing.

They really should keep that in the game.  Cole's spirit pants could be a special focus attack.  The entire team yells "pants magic pants!" and off they go, taking down all your enemies in one fell swoop.

I'm sure Cole fans have seen this, but in case not ^^

(I tried pasting in each image, but then the forum told me I wasn't allowed to use that image extension... thanks, forum, after all that hard work, too!)

Leliana over Cole any day! Leliana is leagues better than Cole and that accent...no competition.

I'd kill Sera for trying to make me kill one of my companions.

Slow days these days for the Cole thread. And in general just Cole news, so I'll try bringing up the topic I had been wondering about for a while but it kept being swept under a wave of looping madness that was happening before.

What if, Rhys isn't having anything to do with the big event of explosion at the meeting, since at the end of the book he and the other mages are moving up north I think it was? To one of the areas we aren't going to in game. So rather than Cole joining the Inquisition because of his personal attachment to Rhys (or lack there of since after the book it clearly seems he falls out of contact of him hard and doesn't return to him) he gets added to the group because of his previous connections to Lilenna...

And a possible ability to heal the Tranquils.

He is apparently a spirit/demon character, and it's established in the book that it only takes one of them poking at a Tranquils mind and they're all fixed up. What if he's going around helping the mages/tranquils that way and his storyline is more based around the aid of the mages in a totally different way. Making the healing tranquils information get out much more than before?

How would you lot feel about the idea of the Tranquils getting healed up of their Tranquility as a plot that was carried over from Asunder and brought along with Cole. I mean, as much logic as it makes that Rhys being at the big explosion, it doesn't make entire sense to me because of the end of the book they're going to a different territory that we can't even go to in game. (If I remember that bit wrong let me know <_>)

All of the companions are supposed to be some sort of leader as well. And, well...Cole isn't really a leader but this made me think: maybe he's the voice (for a lack of a better term) for tranquil people? If Solas is the Fade expert, it seems Cole is kind of redundant in that field (not to mention he doesn't seem to know anything anyways). Tranquil don't entirely fall under mage either; they're probably forgotten or assumed lost to the templars (in regards to the war) so they don't really have any representation.

Edit: Maybe Solas is supposed to represent apostates, while Cole represents denizens of the Fade? I have no idea. I can't quite figure out what Cole's "leader" role is supposed to be. Unless he's not actually a leader and that's just an umbrella term since most of the companions are or are at least important in some other way.

I wonder why it was just Cole whose pants fled from his body. I can't imagine his pants are programmed too differently than anyone elses...OR ARE THEY?!

He might have a special model, animation rig, animations in general, or something that differentiates him from other characters. That's my best guess at least.

Cole isn't really a leader but he is the representative of Fade spirits.  I mean he is actually the embodiment of the idea that they are not so simple or black and white as lore would generally have you believe.

Solas is aware of this already, so that is why he tends to support Cole and help him come to terms with himself.    Cole is confused because he is not in his natural environment, which is the Fade, and not fully human either, but somewhere in between.

I get awfully nervous when I start comparing him to EDI (because of what can happen there) but in a way it is true.    She, together with Legion, were there to show the possibilities for AIs and that they are not automatically to be feared and destroyed.   Cole is there to show that spirits are not only complex but they can learn to identify with mortals and become more like them.   That, of course, can be a good or bad thing depending on the mortal influence on him.

So, James Norton at work, huh.

Am I the only one who thinks that there's a strong resemblance between the character and voice actor here?

All I can find on James Norton on youtube is his cheerful interviews from Belle. Hard to imagine that cheerful voice as a somber ghost-boy.

Every time I think of people wanting to romance Cole all I think is, "Bunch of loli-shotas!!!"

Um... what? That doesn't really make any sense. Am I missing a joke?
Loli = underaged girl
Shota = underaged boy.

Unless you meant lolicon/shotacon which pertains to the people that are... "into" them. Which still makes no sense.
Gaider has already stated Cole isn't a human or a child(mentally or physically) so continuing to believe so is basically just ignoring facts at this point.

Ok Ok, so I am totally on the unpopular I wanna romance Cole bandwagon..(Asunder SPOILER )
(First off, I think I should say that to me Romance doesn't necessarily mean sex ..cuz, Cole is dead and.... i have NO idea how that would work) ANYWAYS, with that being said David Gaider Wrote Cole (even tho he let someone else take him over in DA:I)
Everyone is freaking out about Cole being "a child" ... IN the book, even tho he is described as a (20 something year old man) the Spirit inside him can only seem to access Cole's detrimental childhood memories...SO he comes across as a frightened child.
Even tho i think he has a thing for Ryes... totally

I think Cole, now that he's  realized what he is..(hes pretty strong and confident in the last page of the book). is going to be totally different...and no longer "Child Like"... perhaps he can access the rest of Cole's memories and we can see what happened between ages 11  to 20 to land him in the circle.

I think/hope Cole will be a Romanceable Bisexual option weather that romance means "sex" or just an unbreakable bond (which should be up to whoever chooses that option)

He's totally exactly like Tate Langdon from American horror story.. fan-girl to the extreme
