I plan on using Varric, Cole and Dorian in my party the most, as of right now. I never balance my party from a game play standard. I pick whoever is entertaining storywise and who I just like having with me. It might be harder, but the casual modes aren't much of a challenge so far, is the general consensus I've heard.

I really hope Dorian and Cole get along, because I'm really hoping Dorian will be my LI and I always take them with me constantly. I imagine Cole's nickname for him will be about the mustache. lol

I got a bit bored and drew up a little comic based around the fact that Cole didn't move at all in the trailer. And Vivienne staring at the camera. Faaatt. Alright alright back to works.

Omg Viv's face is perfect. THERE ARE FASHION CRIMES BEING COMMITTED AND SHE KNOWS.

I have a feeling I'll want to bring Cole, Sera, and Varric around a lot...I suppose it's a good thing I prefer having my character as a mage. I'm sure having 3 rogues might make the game a bit harder than having a balanced party though.

Well in DA2 I played as mage who combined primal magic and force magic, so I did a lot of damage. I usually only had one warrior in my party since my character owned everyone else in the damage dealing department. So I guess, depending on the classes in DA:I, you could have two rouges in your party at once if your warrior/mage can make up for it.

The more we learn about the characters, the more I like them! I thought I'd be disappointed with the line up at first, but there's so much interesting potential.  :)

Cole is probably going to be a staple in my mage Inquisitor's party. A mage with Fade powers and a wandering spirit is waaaaay too perfect to pass up.

I'm pretty happy with how diverse the cast is. Last time everyone seemed either 100% focused on one cause, or they weren't really affiliated with anyone. This time we've got such a hugely diverse cast. We're touching base with basically every faction. It seems like almost everyone will have new information and a new perspective to add to the story. I'm sure there will be some characters that my PC clashes with on a personality basis, but I can definitely still see the value that most companions have to the story advancement.

I'll probably end up taking Cole everywhere because I feel like he'll be sad if I leave him behind. He will probably want to follow you around everywhere, like a puppy. I'll make him my chest opening rogue so I have an excuse to take him everywhere. lol

Last time my party was basically always Varric and Anders with the third slot being whoever was plot relevant, or I thought I could get some approval out of so I wouldn't have to murder them at the end. This time it's way harder and I think I'll have to give up and bench people I like a lot more often. Picking a party will be hard, I can already tell. There's the class/race/faction exploration feature they added, plus so many interesting personalities that likely have a perspective on each quest. Maybe I'll just have to replay more this time. Haha.

As soon as I find Cole I'm pretty sure I'm going to bring him 100% of the time when able. The other two spots will be up for grabs for the first play through at least. Probably the characters with personalities I like the most. After that, once I know what plotlines involve which factions, I'll bring the appropriate character along.

For my first play-through my party will most likely consist of:

Rogue: Cole/Varric (or both)

Warrior: Grey Warden Guy with beard/Iron Bull

Mage: Solas/DHMG (he looks like fun)

I'll probably drag Cole along to everything just to see how he interacts with the world and the other characters =)

I finally finished Asunder! Even way more excited about Cole's character than before. Towards the end he definitely became a more capable fighter. Seems like he even held out better against Lambert than Evangeline did, or at least equally well, but he did get that one hit early on.

It seemed to me that he was getting more and more in control of his abilities, so I definitely think he could eventually control who can and can't see him.

I'm also really interested to see who will survive the blast at the peace summit. I think the Divine is basically finished, we can almost count on that. The fraternity leaders, which means Rhys and Adrian, plus Fiona aren't looking good, either. I'm actually surprised Leliana is safe.

I wonder if there's any chance Leliana will remember Cole at all, or even the idea that there was a Cole from other people having talked about it.

Leliana might be safe because she seems to be the Divine's emissary (on top of being a spy/bard) to at least Celene. Leliana might have remained in Orlais to watch or deal with matters there while the Divine went to the summit. And as for seeing Cole...I'm not sure. She seems pretty normal outside of her...I forgot what she called them...visions? I'm not sure if whatever those were would give her any special abilities, but possibly?

But yeah, I have a feeling Rhys and Evangeline might be at the summit. What better motive for Cole to join the Inquisition than to avenge Rhys. I stumbled on this on tumblr and the person brings up some details that I had forgotten and thought they wrote up the whole potential situation pretty well.

  • I’m trying to get over the fact that one of my faves is very probably dead due to being the Mage’s top brass and so I’m loath to consider the possibility that more of my faves may get killed in the same explosion, but somebody made a very good point: should Rhys (and perhaps Evangeline, too) die as a result of the Breach opening, there would be no better motivation for Cole to join the Inquisition. It makes so much sense that it breaks my heart.
  • Joining the Inquisition, a very visible organisation doing very dangerous things full of a lot of strong characters, of which he knows none of them;that’s ******* terrifying.
  • But Cole pulled himself out of years of never leaving one building and travelled through a huge scary world he knew nothing about on his own, and he did it for Rhys.
  • This is the guy that promised himself he’d murder each and every Templar in White Spire if Rhys had died. This is the guy who stood down the heavily-armoured Lord Seeker while injured, with no weapons, with the option to run away, and instead tried to take the guy down with only hisnails and teeth. For Rhys.
  • If the Breach killed Rhys, if there was a chance of finding out who was responsible and making them pay, he’d do it. Even if the only way to do it was to team up with a bunch of strangers. And whoever this villain turns out to be, no matter how much stronger they are, whether it’s Flemeth or Fen’Harel of Corypheus or the dragon cult or whatever, you know that if they were responsible for killing Rhys that little ****** would want to do nothing less than to try and claw their ******* eyes out with his bare hands.
  • I really really don’t want this to be the case. But it’s worrying me how much narrative sense it would make.

My plans for my party is to totally take Cole everywhere, if it's anything like the previous DA games where you can nearly recruit anyone in a certain order, I'm going to beeline it to getting him as soon as possible. Possibly take Varric and Solas as well, depending on what I need for a team, though I'm really tempted to go all out unbalanced team with no fighters in it just to have the party of possible fun chatty times.

Though I may mix it up depending on how the others act, last thing I want is someone being needlessly cruel to Cole the whole time like some characters were in DAII to each other.

As for the Rhys and Eva thing, I still am really hopeing it's not going to be the case. But logically it seems like it really is going to end up that way for a motivation for Cole, and that's just sad :c

Also yeyy thanks everyone for likeling the little comic I did. <3

I worry about companions I would otherwise like being jerks to Cole, too. The unfortunate thing with DA2 was that hardly anyone seemed to get along in party banter. It would be nice if they balanced it up a bit more. Varric got along with everyone, Isabela and Merrill got along, but most people seemed to hate each other.

Having Fenris and Anders in a party was a constant fight, which was annoying because I needed a healer but wanted to keep Fenris around because he was my favorite character in the game. Even Avaline and Isabella felt like they fought too much with Avalines comments about her being a ****** all the time, even if it had become a sort of playful banter between them it always felt a touch laced with malice. In DAO they didn't feel as hateful towards each other at all, they where there because they wanted to be and even if they where suspicious of each other they had more curious proddings, while in DAII it felt like they weren't a team under the same flag.

I swear, if it wasn't for Varric that whole team would have devolved into a massive mage vs templar like battle. Hawk sure didn't feel all that much like a leader, but rather Varric was and you where the front image.

I don't want Cole to be bullied or mean snappings at each other noooo, everyone seems like they're more under a unified banner for Inquisition I just hope that means their common goals keep them friends.

I wanna take Cole with me on most trips (though I typically mix up my party and don't really stick with one main party... nor evened out) Cole is definitely my favorite DA character... he's so interesting and mysterious. just gahh I just love Cole. My inquisitor would feel the need to protect him, I'm thinking (if he's still like he was in the book that is.. he may be much different now..)

@Mort - yeah that was one of the things that bothered me a bit in DA2... at least I did not like taking Anders Fenris and Merrill all at once, though it was the only time Anders and Fenris got along, it was only because they were both bullying Merrill :(

Well, hopefully the 'interactive banter' makes it into the game. So if one party member starts picking on another, we can side with one or the other, or else tell them both to shut up/play nice. ;)

I like the interactive party banter option a lot, but I also don't like making people mad at me. Like, it's a good idea at the time, but how much more likely will it be that I'll have to murder them later because I pissed them off too often? lol

Yeah, this, I'll more than likely just take a group that gets along. I like keeping everyone around and happy, even if I don't particularly like the character.

I worked so hard to keep everyone happy and in my party in DAO, Sten being the hardest for me to drag around considering I was in a team of happy and did every quest ever with my little soft Warden mage. Man, the huff fight I got into with him during the ashes quest was horrifying the first time I did it because I didn't know it, then my convincing stat wasn't high enough yet to make him not attack me. So it was this horribly awkward fight where Sten two shotted my warden into oblivion because I decked out Sten with all the best armor and I was just this little support healing mage.

I wonder if they'll bring back that sort of stat in the game so then you can convince your companions with your honeyed tongue that everything is a okay. Or if it will be entirely based on what you say and do with the other companions when they're in the party.

I wonder if Cole and Cassandra are the only two companions that have fought dragons before? Although Cole's..."dragon" could be arguable. I wonder if it'd ever be mentioned in game.

Cole isn't trained to be a mage, and in Asunder his abilities and combat are closer to that of a rogue than a mage. His weapon of choice in the book was his mother's dagger.

Double the stabbing capabilities! Now both hands can go into the fray rather then that one with a useless empty hand going on with Cole. One for avenging Rhys and the other for Eva.

...Oh I made myself sad.

Also wait, Cass fought a dragon before? Was that in her movie thing?
