I never got the impression that Cole had ASD. Definitely anxiety issues and depression though, as other people have stated. Getting accustomed to going through the world unnoticed for years then suddenly being thrust into society? Even the most well adjusted people would probably find some difficulty reconnecting with people.

I'm sure they'll be releasing the backed up one now that I think about it, they said they didn't do it because of the release of the trailer and the flood of info that came along with it, confusing the communication in the office. Or something along those lines. Should be back when things have calmed down.

Am I the only one who thinks Cole is gay? His attachment to Rhys was extremely strong and although he referenced Evangeline as pretty, I didn't really get the sense he was attracted to her.

 

If there is a gay character in our party I believe he will be one of them

I don't think Cole has a sexuality. I think he only feels platonic attachment.

I didn't. Remember he has the mentality of a child, so he wouldn't be aroused by things like when he saw mages having sex or Evangeline changing, but also attaches to people he considers a role model, in this case Rhys.

I hear that argument for sure. But as a gay man myself - I was attracted to men when I was 12 to 13. However, if he is a spirit of Pity as some have suggested, than normal romances may not be an option at all.

 

I look forward to seeing Bioware fleshing out his character more. I appreciated how he gave everyone nicknames in the book - Varric and he may be friends?

 

Also I wonder if he gave those folks nick names because he didn't want to remember them as much as he knew they didn't remember him.

It may be something they never feel, or it may be something only a minority decide to adopt into their identity the way spirits adopt other random values from the mortal world. If Cole were to have a sexuality, though, I would think he seemed more bisexual. He was welcoming of attention and affection from either gender. I didn't notice him gravitating more towards one. Rhys just happened to be the one that he'd had the most time with and who wouldn't forget him.

I definitely got the sense that what mattered most to Cole was having someone who acknowledged his existence.
It didn't feel like a romantic attraction, nor like it had anything to do with gender.

...that being said, if the Litany of Adralla (and possibly, the Breach) affect Cole, somehow... that could change.

I think I might be projecting, but I imagine Cole has the potential to be the "younger brother" type character to our Quizzy. A very stabbity one, kinda like a male River Tam with less ballet and not arriving naked.

I don't think Cole is gay at all, or going to be anything romantic. He stuck so close to Rhys because he was the only one could see him and remember him, being his only social interaction. If Gaiders little bonus thing on Cole means anything, it means that he also feels similar to Eva on the friend front since he accounted her on the thing. Cole doesn't seem to have any concept of a physical relationship, aside from having seen it a number of times, and didn't seem all that interested in it. He also comments on the prettiness of ladies quite often, though mainly as just a flat comment of what he sees from them and I don't think there was a descriptor of Cole seeing physical interests in Rhys.

 

And Gaider seemed really foot down on Cole not being a romanceable companion because of how Coles mentality is of a child and it would be rather gross to take advantage of Cole in that way. And I hope he sticks with it, because Cole is way too emotionally stunted for a physical romance, or even have a grasp of what a romance is in compared to a friendship.

 

Young brother seems like what he would fit the most into, or just you know, lonely guy who needs friendship after losing his two friends.

Does he still have the mentality of a child, though? At the end of the book, (I thought) he seemed like a completely different Cole than the one we saw throughout the book. I'm not sure about his possible sexual orientation, but to me his mentality seemed a lot darker than that of a child at the end.

My character, if given the option, would be more like...maybe hand on his shoulder, looking straight into his eyes super seriously and 100% deadpan "If anyone even cuts you a stink eye I will shank a *****" and there would be this unspoken understanding of protectiveness between them hopefully in a not weird and creepy way.

But in reality I'll probably just go diplomatic/peaceful/stoic most of the time because I'm super passive and diplomatic irl sooooo yeah there's that

I'm back

My theory is that everything mentioned above (lyrium, red lyrium, Old Gods, spirits, demons and Taint) are originated from the Fade itself.

1) Lyrium is the connection between the Fade and the real world, and you can see it grow larger in the places where the Veil is torn. It also grows in the Fade and spirits can hear the music of lyrium.

2) Red lyrium whispers and sings to even those who are not connected to the Fade in any way (Bartrand for example or Meredith).

3) The Old Gods may be dragons possessed by powerful Fade creatures, which are capable of singing and talking to the others via their dreams (the ancient Tevinter dreamers were the only ones who could access the Old Gods, isn't that odd?)

4) Spirits and demons are pure creations of the Fade.

5) The Taint was released or created in the Fade by unknown (Maker?) when the Magisters stormed the Black City. Maybe it has been in the Black City all along?

So, if the Cole hears the call of Old Gods, hears the lyrium and senses the Taint, it could point us to the conclusion that he actually is a Fade creature or is at least possessed by one. So no, I don't think he is human anymore.

 

As for the possible romance, the only option I can think of is platonic. But I won't push away the thought of a spirit learning to accept the new concept of love, there have been some hints that spirits and demons can actually do that. Justice was at least curious of the thing, when he met Ora and remembered her and Kristoff being in love.

 

PS. any new info? No? That's a shame...

PPS. I would try my best to slay as few dragons in the game as possible, because I like dragons and think they are underestimated. Also, that's why I think I wouldn't get along with Cass and woudn't take her with me anywhere.

Welcome back! And no, but sort of? The follower fridays have been...somethinged because they wouldn't be able to get to all the companions before release. Whatever format change is happening with what we once knew as follower fridays is happening so we -do- see all the companions before launch. Yay for Cole actually getting a preview! (minus Asunder, that is)
