I will definitely have Cole and Sera with me at some point. Apart from the potential for hilariously childish disputes, I am also hoping for some change in their relationship, like with Isabela and Aveline. The potential is there, as they both seem to believe strongly in helping the little folk and might find common ground through that.
Yes, development is essential for characterizations. For Sera, "it's not about what's right, it's about what's right now.” It seems like they've prepared huge room for her growth.
However, I have no idea how long this chaos will last. The time span of DA2 is 7 years. I hope there is enough time for us to gain in-depth understandings about companions, but on the other side, I’am terribly worried about Blackwall’s physical condition, since he is tactically replaceable, that “thing” could really happen during the game.

I'm actually exited to see Cole in the game. His character interested me in the books. I want to know what's going on with him and the 'spirit' that was in his body at the end of the book. I say spirit because it isn't really confirmed that the spirit is a demon. Before you guys say it is because of the whole litany thing then let me say this, wouldn't the litany work on people like Wynne the same way? Her body was inhabited by a spirit from the Fade and no one says anything about the people who were inhabited by spirits. They just focus on the demons and how mages are evil for making deals with them.
So yeah, love that he's in the game and wondering if you meet Rhys and them in the game will it change anything.

No matter how many proves smashing on your face, you will still believe he is a demon.

Don't care for labels. I just want to get to know Cole.
It probably won't happen, but it would be cool to send in Cole to clear out a fort and he kills all the guards but still props them up like they are still on duty like Jaqen H'ghar does at Harrenhall in Game of Thrones.

I think cole is a reverse abomination personally
A Spirit possessed by a human soul. Interesting, do we have precedents?

There isn't anything indicating that it isn't so.

It's a demon until proven otherwise.
You called Vengeance a demon too and you have considerable reasons to do so. Eventhough for the most part he is the Justice we know from Awakening simply sharing body and soul with Anders, like Anders himself he can lose himself to anger as well. A trait he got from merging with Anders. When fully enraged he turns into a force of Vengeance and can do "demony" things. Now in our encounter with him in the fade, you'll see that there is no sign of Vengeance, he is Justice, the same spirit we met on Awakening. However the interesting part is inside the fade he is recognized as a spirit by a demon (Torpor). No one is going to ignore this and blatantly call every fade entity they see a demon. ~rolls eyes
Now Cole is clearly called a spirit on DA:I official site. So he is a spirit until proven otherwise. What he does cannot change his fundamental being.

Here we are of an accord. The truth is Cole killed people in the lowest, most vulnerable state of mind of their lives. Cole might be pitiful. It might be earnest. It might be lonely, sad, traumatized (still don't understand how that works, but okay), and naive. But it killed innocent people that might have lived full and happy lives had it not taken advantage of their darkest hour.
