I can read the ending of Asunder over and over again. Cole's story in Inquisition is going to be awesome.

I did wonder if they would do a Legion type thing with Cole but I really don't see how that plot would progress; the spirit was already outside the Fade way before the veil tear so even if sealing it up sent all the spirits/demons back that had dropped out since it occurred, I don't see how it would affect those already strongly attached to the material world. After all if Lambert revealing his true nature to him didn't send him back, I think he must be pretty securely anchored in Thedas. Sacrificing him certainly couldn't be essential to the plot because he is the one character that you can reject straight off and never have in the Inquisition. I'm pretty certain that if you are kind to Cole and reinforce his positive attachment to the world then that would be sufficient to save him from any undesirable effects of closing the breach.
As for healing tranquil, that could only occur if Cole intentionally want to do it, if at all. He was wandering around the White Spire for years without affecting the tranquil there. Justice only temporarily healed Karl when he came to the fore front of Anders' consciousness during battle; the temporary nature of that was actually more odd bearing in mind what occurs in Asunder, since Pharamond asserts that it wasn't being possessed that cured him but simply being touched by a Fade being, so may be it has to occur from within the Fade for it to be permanent.

Recruitment is never the problem, in ME3, if Legion is not recruited, then there is no choice made for the Geth. In fact, I believe almost everyone except Cas/Varric/Solas you can decide to not recruit at all, the plot will work for you to not have the extra option when dealing with related issues (Imperium/Qunari/Circle…).
What I'm worried about is if Cole is a PURE fade entity, then he is an unknown fade being with SOUL and CREATIVITY. I think it's not difficult to suggest that he might hold the key to annihilate the major conflict between fade and physical world, between human and spirit. Especially if he is a demon who is able to transform himself into a spirit or even a human, then it will definitely mean a lot don't you think?

He could certainly hold some interesting insights into what is going on and may even have some knowledge of the big bad that may eventually come back to him. However, he cannot be essential to resolving the plot because you are not obliged to take him or get involved with him in any way. Now, of course, this was also true of Legion but how much your final decision impacted on you emotionally did depend a lot on what happened with Legion and the Geth. Which is where the worry has lain to some extent with Cole. Mind you, we don't know exactly how the Inquisitor has managed to survive and you might assume that the ultimate success of the main quest could rest on their ability to close the Breach from the other side as the final act, which would leave them stranded in the Fade, so Cole or Solas could be the key to their survival. Still, we can race through the main plot and then return to complete various other non-related quests afterwards, so I can't see any sort of ultimate sacrifice on the cards for the Inquisitor and pretty unlikely for the other companions either.
Hopefully we can all get involved in a mega battle to defeat the big bad and his minions without the associated emotional kick in the gut if you befriend the demon Pinnochio (I mean that in the nicest possible way since Cole is essentially trying to discover what it is to be a real boy/man). After the Enemy of Thedas trailer, the Elder One started to remind me a lot of Harbinger, who I'd really wanted a showdown with after ME2 and was really annoyed when I didn't get it, so I['m really hoping this time round I really will get the opportunity to kick his a**!

There's one very big reason they won't force Cole to pull something like this:
That'd ruin the 3 Rogues, 3 Mages, 3 Warriors aesthetic! Think of the how bum-tastic it'd be to only have 2 ROGUES! The Mages will laugh! The Warriors will guffaw!
Seriously though, the Legion thing only worked because he wasn't a crew member. You could argue he could end up in a Tali like situation but eh. Doubtful.

I don't think inquisitor will be sacrificed at the end of the main quest since the narrative structure of DAI is much similar to Skyrim. As for the companions, a balanced team dynamic is just an initial setting, they all represent a major conflict of Thedas, if you are a perfectionist, make sure you recruit then all. However, you can either lead them or let them fall, so depending on your choice, there can also be only one left in your team. Aaryn once said that the game is going to put a lot of folks through the emotional wringer, as for me, the most extreme case is probably the sacrifice that you have to make for power and influence, the sacrifice of innocence, even your companions.
Patrick did say that Cole is utterly selfless to help those who are hurting, which can break your heart. So I'm not going to relax my vigilance now, it's always better to be prepared for the worst. Although if it does happen, I know any degree of preparation will serve no use for me.

Perhaps the turnips are a stand-in for templars? He draws little eyes and Swords of Mercy on them and then lights them on fire.
Sounds like a fun campfire game!
