I finally have Cole on my team.

He is my favourite companion so far, he is so kind!

 

But he is a bit strange...

Just now Cole walked away from the group into a fire and them, while burning, he cased down a ram (on his own) until he had killed it....he wandered pretty far from the group. I had to go get him. (I'm pretty sure it is some weird bug but still)

Not really sure what that was about....

Honestly, if I had a platinum (is that what the currency's called now?) for every time my party members decided to up and  randomly slaughter some innocent wildlife, well... I'd have been able to buy that box in Val Royeaux a bit sooner, I guess.

Anyone else notice how Cole can control people remembering him now? He mentions it in banter with IB I think. But then I noticed that Josie can't remember him. So that means Cole is making Josie not remember him.

Also I did spirit path and regret it. I don't think there is anything wrong with being a spirit, but he starts erasing his own memories in that path and recognizes that he isn't really "Cole" anymore, "but you can call him that if you like". He mentions in the epilogue that he almost feels light enough to slip back through to the fade.

The spirit that is the Cole we know and play with is basically a spirit of Compassion. The original fully human Cole was dragged away to the Circle when he was a boy, and the templars threw him in a dungeon and forgot about him. He slowly starved to death, and the spirit of Compassion tried to help him but it wasn't strong enough. Cole died, and the spirit inhabited him and took on many of his emotions and memories, essentially becoming partially human because of this bond. He uses the name 'Cole' because that's the name of the boy. His body still grows, but he doesn't need to eat. Though it's debated in and outside of game, I'd say he's both a spirit and a human simultaneously but the gist of it is that he was originally a spirit who, through unique circumstances, becomes a bit human.

No. Cole is not possessing a body. Solas says it when you first recruit Cole that he isn't a possession. He's a spirit manifest as human.

I'm not sure it's a bug but yeah that's happened a few times with one or two of my companions they just wonder off killing some ram or halla so I just tell them to disengage and they quit and come back to my Inquisitor.

Hrm... I don't know about this. But alright. I won't smack him upside the head just yet. But I do not want my hold to be bug infested and smelly!

Speaking of this, does anyone know all of them? Plus where they start at. I think I was missing the first conversation of one of them (the one that would be in the conversation wheel 2 slot). Even Solas says he doesn't know how. The closest is during Cole's quest he says

something about how he couldn't help Real!Cole so he made himself real. There is no real explanation on how or WHAT Cole is.
Other than he is NOT a possession and that he is a spirit of compassion.

After reading Asunder I never expected Cole to be this funny. I've got him in my party with Blackwall at the moment and his party banter is hilarious.

I think he's possessed.. somehow, soul, body, whatever, only logical explanation, if not divine or so.

It hasn't happened to the other companions in my game yet, but I'm hearing a lot about this bug or whatever it is.

The thing is, he didn't listen to any commands at all. When the ram was dead I could control him again.

As long as they can sustain themselves, they can exist without a body. And Cole is easily able to sustain himself. He just has to keep helping people.
