Ah hah! Clue one for where it can possibly be, Faerah. Just have to dig through 12k in posts 8D

Was that the area where he mentions the child mentality for Cole?

Yeah. It was the same thread...though it was so long ago, I am unsure what the name of the thread even was.

I'm pretty sure someone linked it in the last Cole thread that got locked, because I know I saw a link to the conversation here on the new forum.

I have tried hunting it down, but all the former links are dead, and I can't get to it.

I searched the other thread and it wasn't there. I guess it was somewhere else, but I have no idea where. I know I saw a link to it a while back, though. I remember Gaider's "shine on you crazy diamonds" reaction. lol

YES!!!!!!!

What does that matter? Physically, Cole is an adult. Mentally, he is not. He does not understand sex, much as a child would not, and this is explicitly stated in the book.

I'm already picturing a potentially paternalistic or big brother kind of relationship between him and my first Inquisitor. We'll have to wait to find out whether that is at all accurate  :D

Same. I could see a really good friendship between my Inquisitor and Cole.

Whoo at last, found it! Mystery down XD

The whole Cole LI conversation always brings back memories to me of a 2009 conversation I had with people about one of my characters I had for a comic contest. It came up randomly in a chat when we where talking about romance since the character was physically attractive to people, and yet he acted like a child with a lot of under developed understanding of stuff due to a different type of long time isolation. This is probably why I adore Cole so much, reminds me of one of my own now that I think of it <_> except for the totally different ways of acting from the situation. Some people figured that if my character ever found out about sex, they would be all over it doing it all the time while I thought it was unthinkable to have the character that way. I can see how and why Gaider would be very against the idea as the writer.

Oh gawds I was thinking more about it more again. The reason the character was isolated was punishment for stabbing someone to death with their own personal dagger thing as a child. Then when he was released he latches on to a couple that finds him and considers them family and is all sorts of clingy protective of them.

Thank you! I've seen people ask where this conversation was a bunch of times at and was always unable to re-find it.

Edit: sudden urge to use "shine on you crazy diamond" in normal conversations

It was ridiculously easy, really. I vaguely remembered reading it, so all I did was google bsn david gaider cole diamonds and voila! Found in a matter of seconds.

That phrase is indeed catchy xD

Romance is sort of like friendship, but generally so far in the DA games it always is something physical rather then a platonic love, and since Cole had a very platonic level of friendship with Rhys that's as far as I can see Cole ever going, and that was some powerful love without a single move of the romances we see in game.

A hug, him sitting next to you, quickly running to your side automatically if hurt, a conversation, a smile. That's the sort of things a 'romance' I would prefer and figure they would do with Cole and hope they would if he does end up as one.

Exactly this. I would like him to be a LI, but not in the sense that I'd want it to end with "I love you!" and then steamy sex scene. Just something more platonic and innocent. We've never had that before, but I can't see it happening because of his age.
Saying that, I'll happily settle for just a nice close friendship (:

A romance like this would be a nice change after all the angst of DA2.

...you know that Cole is functionally a child, right?

Yeah, one should not really equate naiveté (or whatever other personality characteristics you consider immature) with Cole. It's explicitly stated that Cole sees people in the tower having sex, and doesn't understand it--there's no concept of arousal, not to mention the social under-development he otherwise displays.

If that doesn't impact you, and you really think you could "teach" him to understand these things... ummm, okay. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.

Hmmm... well, that pretty much answers that. :(
I'm in the camp of people who would only want a romance with Cole if he's changed since the events of Asunder. Gaider's posts make it sound like that probably isn't the case.

Well, Cole isn't a mage, but as a spirit/demon he can work blood magic, as he did on many people in the White Spire.

That is how I read it. The Seeker is able to disrupt Cole's invisibility using the Litany of Adralla. Seeker uses it to negate Cole's power  which only works against demonic influences.

Cole was a mystery until the end.

I think Cole has enough problems to deal with. Whatever he is, he doesn't need a romance.

Having way too much fun drawing the fan artz. Not enough Cole art out there.

Anyway, I agree with that whole, Cole has too many issues to be involved with romance. The last thing he needs is to worry if the Inquisitor is cheating on him and planning on leaving him for one of the larger manlier men/fine ladies. It always bothered me when a character in a game clearly has some mental/emotional issues and toss in a romance into it.

If a Cole romance happens then prepare for an ingame visit from Chris Hansen.

I'm sorry, who is Chris Hansen? O_o

You may be right. But even if there is no "typical Bioware romance" with him, I would still appreciate if there was a possibility to become a really close friend to him. Though it seems to me that his Asunder personality is actually changed now. I see him not as a child, but as a Fade creature who has memories of a dead man. Thus I can't make myself feel bad for wanting to romance him. Sorry David. :(

Anyway, I'll be happy if he is in the game, LI or not, because... you know... we all have imagination. ;)

That art/scene sort of reminds me...Cole almost reminds me of the idea of "raised by wolves". Not that he's a vicious animal or something, but more like he's an outsider looking in; a foreigner. Except instead of just being from another culture, he's just sort of ignorant of it. I always thought of him more in this way than childish personally. I guess he could also fit into the animal-ish part too...since he was often written in combat scenes like an animal, especially the Lambert fight.

I've always thought Cassandra would be one of the least accepting of Cole, due to her pro-Chantry/pro-Circle stance. She's also so absurdly aggressive towards everyone, I can't imagine them meshing well.

And it is for that exact reason they'll mesh perfectly. :P

To everyone who wants a better relationship with Cole(since romance is a no go) take heart :). There was an article a while back where one of the devs said they were working on makin the "bromances/non-romantic relationships" on par with the romantic relationships. So apparently we can have a deeper connection (is that the right word to use?) without romances.
