Hm. Thanks. I guess part of the problem for me is that I dislike gear-reliant gameplay as a rule. Even the characters I use a lot are lucky if their junk gets upgraded every five levels or so. :P Still, I might give it a whirl just to see the little spirit buddy fight as he should.

Oh, I’m so addicted to the crafting system now. My original plan was to dress everyone like exactly how I imagined, so I can take some decent screenshot for fan art, but now I'm just way out of control.

Recently finished my first play through. Went pretty much as expected with Cole. "Oops! I didn't know gutting kids was wrong even though I did everything I could not to get caught doing it. I know it's wrong now though, and I'm all pitiful, earnest, and cuddly so let's not ever discuss that anymore. In fact, let's not even go into any decisive detail about those murders even now."

When the PC says they will talk to it later and Cole replies "How will you know?", I just want to...GRRRR!

If I wanted to take revenge on anyone for the murders in the Spire, it wouldn't be Cole, but the people who made young mages so desperate that they yearned for death.

I loved the evolution of Cole's responses to "I'll talk to you later." From "how do you know?" to "probably" to "yes" felt as significant and hard-won as that first time Sten called me kadaan.

You do realize that Cole 1) is very much aware of the fact that what he did then was wrong, 2) makes no excuses for it despite the fact that he was a broken and confused creature in an alien world, and 3) is so determined never hurt innocents again that he repeatedly states and asks that people must kill him if he slips.

@Addai67: I love that quiet "yes", myself, and felt quite honored when, instead of his usual cryptic lines, he first greeted me with "It's good to spend time with you".

So, I specced Cole back into his "true" dagger-wielding self after crafting him the best tier-3 daggers and armor that I could. And I must say, I'm pretty impressed. Melee DPS will always be too clunky for my liking in this game (*), but with the protective masterworks and mobility talents he's not too frustrating ... and really packs a punch, too. I'll keep him this way because it's much more in-character and I always felt bad about taking his daggers away. Thanks for the tips on how to make it work! Now I should probably upgrade everyone else's old junk, too.

(*) Seriously, fighting a bear or wyvern or similar bigger enemy means the melee spend what feels like half the time shuffling around uselessly trying to find the one, constantly-changing mystery sweet spot from which they'll actually deign to land a hit. Meanwhile, the enemy is not so choosy and will happily chew on them. It drives me nuts. Plus, if I don't babysit Cole, the AI doesn't flank with him worth a damn.

On another note, did anyone else think it's odd that, during his personal quest, Cole just passively stands by while we discuss his fate despite how much he's seething with anger and the desire to kill? Sure, it's a good sign that he hasn't totally lost himself and gone rage demon on us, but I expected a little more resistance.

Yes, the key to making combat stupidly easy in this game isn't leveling or tactics but crafting. People do neglect Cole's equipment. I made him some smoking daggers and he's a murder machine. Little kill stealer, too. I see these crazy damage numbers and start to get cocky until I realize it's him, lol.

Omg. I just realized that I've brought Cole to the Winter palace but I totally forgot about him there xD Like... I'm so sorry Cole, goddamit. I was looking forward to hear what he says there and yet... I just. Forgot.

He's in the library. Doesn't have a whole lot to say. He'll still talk about the ball later even if you didn't take him. I think he ghosted in to get a look at the hats.

Yeah. But I just... I still can't believe how horrible I am and how it's in a character for him and people around him. xD

Oh well. Too late for me now anyway, I don't want to do this quest again - it's such a pain.

It's not very wise to talk to him, actually. He's in a restricted area and passing time conversing with him means losing court approval. :)

Yeah, once I exhausted all his dialog options I immediately loaded a prior save so as not lose approval.  He seemed so uncomfortable, frankly, that I felt a little bad dragging him along and wanted to get him out as quickly as possible.  :?

While Cole is usually a fixture on my team, I expected he'd be very uncomfortable at Halamshiral so he wasn't there in my first game. I still want to hear what he has to say, and his ability to hide people for a brief time could be very useful for getting into places unseen (security at that place is a joke in-game, realistically it should be a lot tighter) ... but yeah, I'll feel a bit guilty for dragging him to that pit of Blight-vipers, too.

He's the only companion that isn't announced as accompanying you. As for the party proper, he hides in the library, which is closed off from the party.

I wonder when Cole ever traveled with dwarves. He told Varric that he likes to travel with dwarves, but now that I think about it, maybe he meant with us. I really enjoy Cole as a party member and character. Cassandra and him seem to get along really well, which made me happy. I enjoy those two character a lot, so I was happy to see Cassandra let go of that we need to get rid of him.

You can get oodles of court approval though, so I wouldn't let that deter you. Just show up at the second bell and dance with the harpy and you're golden.

Same here. These two are my favourites, and the two whom my Inquisitor confides in the most, so I'm delighted at how well they get along later in the game. Cole is kind to everyone, but I had the impression that he tried especially hard to earn Cassandra's trust. They come quite a long way from that initial "nearly skewer the demon who just popped up on the war table" moment (and I still love how completely blasé Cole is about her and Cullen waving their swords in his face). If he wasn't so unassuming otherwise, I'd swear he has a secret flair for dramatic entrances.

Does Cassandra ever change her opinion on Cole, however, if you ask her for advice in Skyhold? I liked their banter and thought they were getting along quite well until she gave me that "Don't trust Cole he's dangerous no matter what!!!" line.
I also really liked how curious Dorian is about Cole. Between Solas' immediate fascination with him (because wow, spirit!) and Vivienne's fear (oh no, demon!), Dorian's almost scientific approach looked most sensible to me. And the way Cole leaves him puzzled after some of their dialogue is quite funny.

I love how Cole hit the bull's eye with Dorian's feeling about his father. The convo got very heart warming there... He regretted allowing the Spirit to ask any question about 5 minutes after he gave him that promise, still he actually try to explain in ways Cole can understand even if questions hurted him...

Cass didn't talk about Cole anymore when I asked her in Skyhold after a few banters... Just get the impression they really warm up to each other, he even find her locket back (with the photo of her deceased brother).

Should you do the here lies the abyss quest , finish his personal quest, make him more human then take him to halamshiral would he get announced ? considering that he would be able to get spotted by people after that.

I did that to test the result, no announcement, and he still made people forget when they refused his help. Story bug I guess.

His comments about the ball is epic, I'm so dead when I heard this line.

That's interesting. So does Cole really "see" the world as we all? Or does he "sees" people's heart instead of their physical form?

I have no idea how he managed to be both utterly insightful and adorable.

Their banters, OMG. I don't know how Weekes and Gaider wrote those. I mean the ones after Dorian's quest. I imagine there were some of the tears PW mentioned in his podcast, and it's that much more powerful because the VA's are so good. Especially the way Dorian's voice breaks when he says "can someone please make him stop."

Ack... verklempt just thinking about it.
