So apparently we can have a deeper connection (is that the right word to use?) without romances.
That would be so wonderful. I always thought they should do it. Maybe then I can become Cole's BFF ![]()

One thing I would love, is for Cole to become protective and extremely fond of our inquisitor like he was to Rhys - if we decide to be "friends" with him, of course. That would make me happy.
If one thing is certain, it's that Cole is definitely capable of having a strong emotional connection with someone, despite what people say/think to oppose the idea that he can and does have some sort of human emotion.

That's what I was talking about when mentioning a "platonic love" - a strong emotional connection, more than friendship, but not love in the meaning of "typical Bioware romance" and all. Hope it will be realised.
Oh ... right in the feels. Poor thing. ![]()
I guess that's what I get from coming to this thread about the character with the most heart-wrenching story ever, though.

Thats what I want to happen. I would love a big brother/sister relationship with Cole.
It always bothered me when a character in a game clearly has some mental/emotional issues and toss in a romance into it.
People with mental/emotional issues have romances all the time in real life. I don't think that's the problem. Pretty sure the problem is that he is a fade spirit of some sort with no interest in human relations. Although he does seem to be depressed, I don't think it's fair to say that's a reason why someone shouldn't be romanceable. I'd much prefer realistic depictions of mental illness/emotional crisses both in and out of romances. I'd love it to be shown that your love can't fix them and you have to hopelessly watch them spiral out of control. Oh wait that's kind of Anders isn't it? Well regardless, I've always thought Bioware did a good job with depicting realistic characters... I say bring on the "mental issues" ![]()
I definitely hope we can have a bond with Cole as strong as what he had with Rhys. Every time I hear those "Judas" theories pertaining to Cole, I remember how he was willing to fight Lambert with just his teeth and nails, while injured, to save Rhys. If we had the kind of bond with Cole that Rhys had, I know he would never be the one to betray us.
Am I the only one who finds all the Cole fan art to be creepy? Nothing against the artists. Must be the subject matter.

I'm curious on how we'll be able to influence Cole. His character blurb back in the survey suggested that we'll be able to push him towards either co-existing with or preying on the living, sort of like the friendship/rivalry paths back in DA2. Even though anything could have changed since then, I like the idea and I hope it's something they stuck with. It would be really interesting (in a morbid sense) to see just how messed up Cole could get with an evil Inquisitor and to see how the other companions would react to it. I'm not sure if I would be able to stomach it though. Maybe once in the name of science...
I love the idea that you can do either, but I know myself and I know I'll never be able to do that to Cole. I'm really sad in what I'm willing to do in games. I can't bring myself to do bad things to characters I don't even like most of the time, if it's optional. lol

I wonder how they would go about the evil ish path this time around, the friend and rival thing in DAII was pretty well done (though it did show some rather... uh... interesting relationships) and I really hope they are taking that to the next level. It would be curious to see if they have that path with Cole with pushing him into the darkness some more or bringing him into friendy time into the light. I have a feeling if you get on some characters bad side, they'd just leave or try and cou de ga or however it's slept, but Cole is oftly clingy so I don't think he would have a moment where he would think to leave.
I'd never be able to be cruel to Cole, I relate to you there Mort. I tried to do a much harder mean run in DAO recently, and I kept caving to Alister just unable to be a jerk to him. Or trying to find a middle ground and be nice to everyone I meet when the character is supposed to be a hard bum. I was able to do it in DAII, but not in Origins. And I have no idea what the difference can be other then the voice for rival was hilarious to me...
Though I couldn't be mean to Fenris or Merrill so I suppose it's just dependent on the characters if I like them or not.

A-Abuhh D8 B-But he's fun to draw because in the book he has such a vast array of scenes that are so fun to drawww.

I can understand you here. I would like to see what the "other path for Cole" looks like - I'm into creepy stuff and way too curious
But if it would mean hurting Cole or making him suffer, then I'm not sure I would be able to walk that path to the end. But we'll see. I'd like to play a "dark" Inquisitor once, with a "dark" Cole beside them.
I hope we can recruit him early in the game
In DAO I always ended up recruiting Oghren right before the Landsmeet and missed most of his dialogues ![]()

Agreed, I also hope it's not easy to miss his recruitment like Fenris in DA2. If that happened to me I would never forgive myself!
I hope we can basically recruit everyone in the first act, if they're doing that format again, or just early on, if not. I like getting the companions early. I agree about the situation in DA:O. Oghren is the least memorable character in the game for me, because I always get him last and just feed him the gifts I've picked up to get his friendship up. Sometimes I actually forget he's not just an Awakening companion. ![]()
I'd never be able to make Cole evil or whatever if the option existed. I...tend to be unable to roleplay really, so I just choose the best options that I would do irl and I have a really hard time being a dick to people. I mean, unless they deserve it I guess (I'm looking at you Udina and probably others I can't remember off the top of my head).
Edit: I always leave those choices to watch on youtube... ![]()

I see. In my headcanon, my PC is generally a nice person, too. But try to see your "alternatvie" characters as not your avatar, but a whole another person. Then it may be not so painful to act in a different manner
But if you don't want it, it's okay.
I'm just saying that in every RPG I play as a headcanon "nice guy" and then as an "alternatvie evil guy" to see all the options and outcomes, and in ME and DA it's usually substantial.
I do hope the layout for the companions is a bit quicker to get them this time around. In Origins you had a huge quest that you couldn't back out of to them until you where all the way done. Zevern was the only one that just sort of appeared with no quest behind him. Though they did touch that up in DAII where it was quicker to get them as long as you knew where to look for them. I still do want a quest involving them though, but like personal ones would be fabulous to get more then just one.
I'm intrigued... do excuse me if this has been discussed before but, I wonder how we're going to come across Cole. How he'll be good enough for us to recruit him; since at PAX, Laidlaw said all of our followers will be the best of the best. This is one of the things I'm so excited about. Coleeeee (:
I'm figuring we'll be visiting the White Spire and that's how we both acquire Cole & are told his backstory as it relates to the mages (for those who never read Asunder, they'd be made aware of the "Ghost of the Spire" legends; of Rhys, Evangeline and the mage revolts to which Cole can expand on later...etc). I really hope Lambert is somehow also present. I'd like to hear his view of Cole out of his own mouth, especially following whatever experience he might have been subjected to at the end of Asunder. It would give a new player both a sympathetic & ominous view of Cole as a character and that would be neat to see.
EDIT - I think his skill set alone would place Cole amongst "the best of the best" if we go by his book abilities.

I think in his case, he's unique. So he may not be the leader of a faction or acclaimed, but even he isn't quite sure of his precise nature.
